Fat is GOOD for you! New research says cheese and cream to PREVENT diabetes and heart risk

Current dietary advice says foods containing high levels of saturated fats such as cream, butter, red meat, eggs and cheese should be avoided because they increase the risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer.

But a study published in a leading medical journal has found the opposite is true, with a diet full of natural fats improving the health of people taking part.

Professor Sherif Sultan, a heart specialist from the University of Ireland, said: “We urgently need to overturn current dietary guidelines."

"People should not be eating high carbohydrate diets as they have been told over the past decade.

“Instead our diets should be largely based on good quality high-fat foods. This will prevent the rising epidemic of Type 2 diabetes and reverse the growing numbers of people suffering weight-related heart problems.”

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found overweight middle-aged men who ate high levels of saturated fat and low levels of carbohydrate became slimmer and healthier.

Researchers also saw reduced blood pressure and glucose levels, which are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer, in the patients.

Beer is the miracle food. In the middle ages, beer was still a food stuff. It still is in my house.;-)

In my house it's chocolate. It cures insanity. Even bacon can't do that.

Ahhh, buttermilk.

I bought some recently for a fried green tomatoes recipe. It was a 1/2 gallon full fat Bavarian style. I ended up drinking a glass daily just cause it was so good. Reminded me of unflavored yogurt somewhat.

Store was out of it last time I checked but your post has started a craving. I’ll be buying it again as soon as I find it. Very satisfying.

Oh ... and the fried green tomatoes were fantastic! Buttermilk really helped the breading to stick.

The key is moderation. Eat whatever you want, in moderation.

Same here. I avoid sugar and grains and make a point of eating extra high quality fats every day.

Conventional dietary wisdom nearly killed me. I developed an autoimmune disease that my doctors said I would have to deal with the rest of my life. After struggling with it for years, a friend recommended a low-carb/paleo diet and I was desperate enough to try it. My supposedly incurable disease disappeared in days and I was able to get rid of the steroids I had been taking. Multiple doctors had assured me there was no connection between my condition and what I was eating, but they were flat wrong. Now I’m 50 and feel better than I did 20 years ago.

Last month I began drinking “bulletproof coffee” (coffee, unsalted grain-fed butter, and MCT oil) every morning. So far I like it, but don’t have enough evidence to have a firm opinion.

Importantly, dairy products are digested differently than meats. Dairy are digested fairly high up by the firmicutes phylum of bacteria. They are aerobic and very efficient at digesting the foods they digest, releasing a lot of nutrition for the body. So while dairy products do have lots of protein and fat, they should be avoided as part of a meat eating weight loss diet.

Meats are digested by the bacteroidetes Phylum in the lower intestines, which do not release as much nutrition.

But something that all nutritionists agree on is that sugars need to be restricted, as too many contribute strongly to many health problems.

I love roasted brussel sprouts, with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Everybody says they're so horrible, they have a great flavor.

I found a canned "tomatoes, corn and okra" with a little jalepeno...terrific all by itself. Seven bean soup....fantastic flavor, tastes like it has meat in it.

You can always make Navy beans and ham...serve with cheap mustard.

(always soak beans for an hour or so in baking soda/water, rinse with fresh water)

Huh. Having similar problems myself. I’m not overweight but I’m addicted to sugar. I think I’ll follow what you are doing and see if I feel better. Do you just eat the same things every day?
