With 14 shootings so far this year, gun violence in Carbondale, Illinois, is at its highest level in 10 years, according to records from the Carbondale Police Department.
There was another this weekend in the 500 block of South Graham Street that sent one person to a local hospital.
Police records from a Freedom of Information Act request in April show eight shootings in Carbondale. Records workers inside the police department say there have been another six since then, including the shooting this past Saturday. Records show this is the highest number of shootings in more than a decade.

I’d treat with caution any place with a population 40% black or Hispanic.
The Black Lives Matter crowd has created all of this along with their backers in Politics and the CBC. During the Democrat Convention I have seen them boo God,The Police and The Military. We have our own brand of terrorism in America now and I intend to support the The Police,Military and God outright. Wake up America this crowd has started a war arm yourselves and be prepared to battle. This may sound stern but look at what has happened and who created and supports it. The Democrat Party in my opinion is right in the middle of the instigation.
.. Carbondale City Council member Navreet Kang. Kang says its not guns that are the problem, but the people.
He says what Carbondale is dealing with this year is similar to what bigger cities like Chicago deal with.
He says the judicial system ought to punish shooters more harshly, and he believes that will prevent repeat offenses.
There's a guy who 'gets it' !

A much larger black population than one might expect.
Well if East St. Louis is anything like Chicago (and it is), the chief will fire the police officer immediately.

Life being placed on the patrol-line.
Certain communities will ^very soon^ not see this type of commitment from the “boys in blue”.
Ha!
Downtown Evansville (E-ville - let the reader understand) ain’t the best place to be after 11pm either.
Been there, got the t-shirt...won’t do it again.
“The Carbondale Police Department says officers were responding to reports of shots fired on North Robert Stalls Street Sunday night when they noticed a tan four-door car speeding away.
The officers chased the car, and attempted to stop it. Police say a suspect in the car shot at the squad car, hitting the car and one of the officers inside. The officer was rushed to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, and later airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.”

SIU students come forward, calling shooting victim Tim Beaty "hero"
CARBONDALE -- A new shooting investigation in Carbondale gets a response from the father of one of the city's most recent gun crime victims.
Hours after an early morning shooting put one person in Memorial Hospital Thursday, Don Beaty, father Tim Beaty, who recently died from a stray bullet, talked exclusively with us about violence which he admits, has no short-term solutions.
Carbondale music lovers knew Tim Beaty, as a popular rock drummer.
"Shortly after he graduated high school he came down here to be with his band," said Don. He now mourns him as a victim of rising crime.
"I think it's every parent's worst nightmare...it's devastating," he said.
Four men, Dwayne Dunn, 21, of St. Louis, Daniel Holmes, 21, of Carbondale, Travis Tyler, 21,and John Ingram, 21, both of Cape Girardeau await their fate, and possibly additional charges in connection to Tim Beaty's shooting death in March.

Carbondale is the home of Southern Illinois University (SIU). Lots of its students are from the Chicago area, so BLM marches shouldn’t be that surprising.
This slowed their marching in C’dale down, significantly:
Must be a mistake. Obama said recently crime is down everywhere and he wouldn’t lie.
The only sensible reaction:
