Washington (CNN)Donald Trump's much anticipated vice presidential pick is expected to be announced next week, a Trump adviser told CNN Tuesday...
Does Trump want to double the bombast by picking a brash straight-talker who mirrors his own style, like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or former House Speaker Newt Gingrich?
Does he prefer someone whose Washington experience and message discipline would counter his freelancing, like Indiana Gov. Mike Pence?
Or does he want to elevate a rising star, like Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst or Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton?
Pence and his wife Karen met with Trump at his New Jersey golf club on Saturday. The huddle came as a source told CNN some in Trump's inner circle are pushing for Pence...

Why is Corker traveling with Trump to NC tonight. Please, please tell me he’s not VP!!
Ernst has badmouthed Trump time and again and supported Rubio. She’s been in the senate all of a year and half. She brings nothing to the table except she’s a woman, but she’s a woman with no experience in Washington DC. She also voted for women to be drafted, one of a couple of GOP women that went with the democrats. If Trump wants a qualified Washington DC legislator, who’s a rock solid conservative, Marsha Blackburn fits the bill. She is far and away more qualified than Ernst.
My own two cents on this question is that I want someone who's a FIGHTER and is going to blacken the eyes of the Democrats at every turn.
I love Newt and his experience and the fact that he's so well versed on every single issue but the fact is he hurts Trump. I don't see a Trump/Gingrich ticket winning.
I also don't see a Trump/Ernst ticket winning. Nor do I see a Trump/Christie, Trump/Sessions, Trump/Pence or about anyone else I can think of being a winning combination with Trump.
Don't get me wrong, I think Trump wins in the end, I just can't see who he wins with. There has to be a dark horse that Trump's keeping under wraps that's going to be the surprise announcement.
Personally I'd like a Trump/Thune ticket but I don't think there's an ice cube's chance in hell of that happening.
It will not be Gingrich. He is a great man, would bring many good things to the Trump administration, but would bring few votes to the election.
Gingrich as chief policy advisor or something akin to that. A “power behind the throne”, a Karl Rove type job.
The VP has one job; Help the P get elected. Jodi Ernst is perfect for that.
Problem with Ernst is we don’t know how she will react when she is punched in the nose by the Dems. Maybe literally. Trump needs someone he can trust who is experienced in the nuclear war of this campaign season.
I’m glad you brought up Jim Jordan he’s my pick too. He doesn’t have much name recognition but that would be overcome fast.
I disagree in the strongest possible terms. How does Newt do any harm in this NEW dynamic of politics? His past affairs? Number of wives? The fact that he basically divorced his previous wife while she was on her death bed?
All that went out the window when Bill Clinton was Governor and culminated with Monica and later with the fact that Bill was taken on the pedophiles private jet to the island of preteen nubile girls, but left his SS detail behind. No, this is no longer any sort of traditional campaign.
Newt has several important characteristics and experiences that qualify him more than the others.
He's the first Republican (probably the first politician period) to actually balance a real budget in over 40 years at the time he did it. He is an incredibly adept debater. I'd pay money to watch him EVISCERATE any opponent Hillary chooses. He is both an ultimate insider for his years in the Congress and he knows all the players on both sides of the aisles and he is an ultimate outsider for the time he has spent outside the beltway. He is a history teacher (like me, LOL) and he is a successful author. He is a brilliant tactician and knows long range strategy as well.
Newt has known Donald a long time. They get along well together and more importantly, Newt isn't afraid of Trump and won't hesitate to tell him in the bluntness that is the style of a truly successful businessman that he is totally FUBAR. Google that one. I can't define it here. Only Newt can maneuver their way through the snakes nest that is the official and unofficial side of DC.
Finally, this is reality born of history gripped by evil in a fallen world: Newt Gingrich is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. How deep he is into that group of globalists I don't know. But the history is THIS: No U.S. President has won the office without being a member himself or having someone on the ticket that is a member. Hillary, Obama and Biden are all members. I don't think Trump is a member. Reagan wasn't but Bush Sr was and he was a Skull & Bonesman too. So was Junior.
Politics. It's a filthy dirty game and if you want to win, you've gotta learn to low crawl through the mud. That's just the way it is.
I love Allen West and I think he’s the best one mentioned on here so far, but you know the Clinton machine and the MSM would take what happened when he was in the Middle East and make it out to be bigger than anything the Clinton’s ever did. I’m afraid he’s going to pick Newt because he supported him early on and is very intelligent or Chris Christie because he was loyal. But I don’t think they would work at all for VP in an election. Joni Ernst doesn’t come off well on tv, that’s just a fact.He needs someone new that puts a blue state into play or makes a purple state solid red, and a minority would be great. A minority woman would be spectacular for optics, But of course she’d have to be capable, tough and likable. I hate that politics comes down to this but just that can mean 10-20% of the vote.
Or he could pick a conservative. He doesn’t necessarily come across as conservative to everybody. He appeals to a wide swath. If he solidifies his conservative base, he can ensure the country is in better shape long after he’s gone.
Jim Jordan always seems to just say no when other republicans ask him to step up to a new level of duty. Jim refused to help us get rid of Boehner a couple of times when he was vulnerable to being removed from his Speaker role.
I think Jordan may prefer to keep doing what he is now doing, avoiding the deep cold water of national politics.
I supported newt in 2012, but don’t don’t believe newt is someone I would select this year. He’s good in the cabinet, but not someone I would tap for second in command and to take the reigns after two Trump terms. The vp pick needs to be groomed and ready for another eight years. Newt is no spring chicken.
Ah, you nailed it.
I think Trump picks a woman. Maybe Ernst. Perhaps a woman who hasn’t been discussed yet. Two “white” guys are going to have a rough go, even with a maverick like Trump on top of it. It’s an unfortunate fact that most women wI’ll automatically choose a flawed woman over a man out of a perceived sense of duty to their gender. By selecting a female running mate, Trump takes away some of Crooked Hillary’s “historical narrative” and his female running mate will insulate him for when he really needs to take off the gloves.
I hate this kind of pandering where suddenly a ticket has to have a woman or racial minority on it. But it’s the world we live in. My feeling is that Trump will at least choose a woman on her merits and not just for her body parts.
Jim Jordan from Ohio is my pick.
Didn’t realize that - only know from what I’ve seen of him on TV (including House committee meetings) and his website.
If Trump picks a woman, it will nullify the ‘sexist’ accusations from the left. No one other than the far left would believe it.
Thank you for your reply. I agree that Newt has many admirable qualities. I will reply more fully later, but bottom line, I just think his electability will seriously hurt the ticket....I think the average Trump voter likely has a very low favorability for Newt. I’ll reply again more completely later, but I do appreciate the dialogue... :)
Congressman Jim Jordan from Ohio!!!
