Ohio Gov. John Kasich tweeted Monday morning that presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump should apologize to U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the judge presiding over a Trump University lawsuit.
"Attacking judges based on their race &/or religion is another tactic that divides our country. More importantly, it is flat out wrong," Kasich tweeted.
"@RealDonaldTrump should apologize to Judge Curiel & try to unite this country. #TwoPaths," he added.
Trump has said that Curiel could act unfairly in the case because of his Mexican heritage. On Sunday, Trump said "it's possible" that a Muslim judge could also be biased because of Trump's controversial proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country.
Kasich has not endorsed the presumptive nominee of his party, saying he would need to see a significant change in Trump's tone. Kasich told cleveland.com's Henry Gomez that it's possible he may never endorse Trump.

Nope. It’s 2016. If you are a member of a race-based organization that promotes the well being of one race over another then your bias is inherently obvious and you should not serving on a bench.
Trump needs to get out in front of this or be buried by the anti-American media slime machine. He needs to explain exactly how the judge in his case is indeed biased, and do so repeatedly on each of the major networks and on Twitter.
We on FR know the truth but the entire country isn’t on FR. Most of our fellow Americans see people like Kasich and Gingrich lambasting Trump (IOW people in his own party) as well as the Democrats as well as the media itself, which they foolishly believe to be “unbiased” and thus conclude “hmm, maybe he is racist after all”. It’s the usual song and dance. We know it but our fellow Ameicans don’t. (Or don’t want to know either way they’re ignorant of the game)
So Trump needs to start hitting back NOW, or else he’s no better than the slew of milquetoast Republicans of the past. I’m DONE being their apologists for them while they sit back and do nothing. I’m certainly not going to say one word in his defense if he says nothing himself.
I did that for 8 years with Bush and I’m DONE with THAT.
I happen to agree with that. NAACP is clearly a racist organization.
I think you will find that the leftists in Big Media and Big Government have a different view ...
I don’t think it’s planned. Trump has a real good chance of winning over law-abiding hispanics, who are as disgusted with the breakdown of law and order as is everyone else. The most that should’ve been pointed out is that Trump spoke incompletely, and the issue was previous decisions by this judge and his affiliation with LaRaza. If Gingrich had been tag-teaming with Trump on this one, his response would’ve furthered Trump’s agenda.
John Kasich: Dick extraordinaire. Makes me want to make sure my postal delivery driver never breeds.
I have stated up-thread that most likely Gingrich, Ryan, and McConnell are in on the stratagem.
Show me proof of bias in his rulings. If he has them, I am on board.
But I have not seen any proof. Donald crossed a big line when he accuses a sitting a federal judge of bias based on his parentage.
I like Trump. I will vote for him. But he has to learn that he cannot shit on people because of his perceptions alone.
And defending him based on no proof is blind. And foolish.
And Gingrich did further Trump's agenda...he fanned the flames of this issue and brought it much wider coverage.
This is how Trump gets earned media. He creates controversy. Gingrich, Ryan, and McConnell helped enormously by giving the false appearance of disarray within the party.
That confuses the Democrats and Hillary. They will now make a false assessment of Trump/RNC strengths and weaknesses.
Trump acts according to Sun Tzu's Art of War. This is just another example of confusing your enemy.
If Trump had a real legal issue with the judge, his legal team would handle it.
Trump is using the issue to make political hay and to stay in the media spotlight.
That said, I have no idea if Kasich was in on the plot. Actually, I doubt it.
The judge is a member of La Raza Lawyers of San Diego. They are pro-illegal immigration.
“Trump has said that Curiel could act unfairly in the case because of his Mexican heritage. “ I believe he said he IS acting unfairly.
John John John, psssst, no one cares what you think son, now go away.
That is SOP with Trump. He does it to be outrageous and that brings the media spotlight. After he gets full media attention, he completes/clarifies his position.
Think back on the campaign.
Trump operates in a precise, almost predictable pattern, but it keeps getting better and better.
In the General Election, Trump will be using the RNC and Republicans who express loyalty to him to keep the Democrats off balance.
It will be masterful...and Hillary will lose.
That’s all very well and good, but despite the old adage, there IS such a thing as bad publicity. There’s plenty to harp on Hillary for, he doesn’t need to manufacture controversy about himself!
If what you say is true, these boys could be trying to be too cute by half, overthinking the entire affair, and it could come back to bite them. If the meme of “Trump=racist” starts to stick, and I’ll know it from my many liberal “friends”, I’m no longer going to be the apologist if Trump says nothing in his own defense stronger than it’s “inappropriate” to say what he said is “racist”.
If that’s the best Trump’s got it’s going to be a long summer indeed. When I hear some call him “racist”, there will be no words of defense from me until and unless he speaks in his own defense first.
Again, I did the thankless apologist job for Bush for 8 years never again. You can enjoy that if you wish.
My read is that it is not based on his “parentage” but on his belonging to la raza...a racist anti-American organization.
You don't seem to understand the process for getting earned media.
There has to be controversy.
And bad press that becomes good press is still good press.
Think about it.
Trump says the judge's Mexican heritage is a conflict (actually it's the judge's membership in La Raza Lawyers of San Diego). He gets huge press attention...and lots of criticism.
And then low and behold, Alberto Gonzales, the former FIRST Hispanic Attorney General of the U.S., comes out and AGREES with Trump.
This entire matter has been brilliant...as always.
My point is that there is TONS of controversy surrounding his opponent, Secretary Cankles! He doesn’t NEED to manufacture controversy about himself to get “earned airtime”.
Just keep pounding the “Hillary killed Americans in Benghazi” theme (because it’s not only “controversial” but it’s ultimately TRUE). That’s just one example.
This manufacturing controversy about himself strategy, IF even true, is completely unnecessary. I doubt Sun Tzu wrote anything about intentionally weakening your own position for a POSSIBLE future gain.
First Newt.
Then Ryan.
Now Son of Mailman.
The GOP is doing what they do best—participating in a circular firing squad.
Occam’s razor.
Do you have any proof they could possibly conspire to do this? I don’t think so. TOO STUPID.
Do you know where that's documented?
Has John Kasich said anything about the San Jose mayor and police chief needing to apologize to Trump supporters?
And if NOT, why the hell not?
Are we the wrong color for pity? Or outrage?
I’ll tell you something John Kasich - the police chief and major would in the same tribe as Bull Conner and George Wallace... YOU Kasich are blind.
