Mitt Romney, the GOPs 2012 nominee, is among those courting prospects for a possible third-party bid to keep Donald Trump from the White House, according to a Washington Post report .
Among those prospects are Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), one of Trumps most vocal Republican critics, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who suspended his presidential campaign in early May.
Kasichs chief strategist John Weaver said the governor isnt interested in running an an independent.
A Sasse spokesman declined to comment.
But its not looking to good for a late in the game third-party bid, according to the report.
Deadlines have passed to get on the ballot in big states like Texas, though organizers argue a legal challenge there would be successful.
The result of this would probably be something like: Hillary: 44%, Trump: 40%, and Kasich, 16%. In other words, it would hand victory to Hillary.
There are a LOT of regular Republican types who were okay with Romney and completely bought into the notion that he was a full party guy who deserved our votes, money and support.
Many of them will not accept the idea of trying to undermine Trump this way, even though they don’t like Trump.
Romney already ran an lost. Go to Rio and fix their Olympics problem.
Good grief, as the story mentioned deadlines have already passed in some states.
Other states, e.g. Michigan, have “sore loser” laws, which preclude candidates from changing parties after they run to try to get on the ballot. (i.e. Kasich could not run for President as 3rd party, since he ran for President on the GOP) Not at all sure, if that would prevent him from running for Vice President.
Romney can't be seriously considering this.
After the number of votes Trump has won how many Republican votes does Romney think he'll get?
Ann is going to say” Mitt, we are having dinner. No one wants to hear about the election right now. NO ONE! So please chill!” “Yes, Dear! Just don’t take my phone away this time.”
Too bad he never went after Obama as he is doing now against Trump. Mitt, go home NOW!
No smart GOP politician will go down this foolish path. Kasich maybe a RINO, but he’s not dumb.
Romney is done as a national figure for the GOP. He’s a choker like Trump says. Now Mitt is proving to be a fool too.
loss
Milt Romley, gatekeeper of the oligarchs.
Amen to that.
FUMR!! Loser.
Well said, you nailed it.
I believe that 90% of the problems with Ryan are caused by Romney. Romney is a snake. He is a two faced liar and a despicable backstabber.
Trump supported Romney and gave him money. Romney knifed him in the back.
Mr. Etch-A-Sketch needs to shut up and go away.
Good grief! There is even talk of these GOPe clowns reaching out to Mark Cuban as a third party candidate. Their desperation is starting to give off a very strong odor.
I just went to Romney’s FB page. There is a link at the top that suggests visitors also go to his web site. So I did. I clicked on the “contact me’ link and left him a polite but stern message asking that he just go away.
What do you say we flood him with messages.....
Honestly, I thought the hurricane and the hug by the governor of New Jersey sealed Romney’s fate. But what the hell do I know. I do agree with you that people should just screw the third party idea and let Trump run. As much as I think Trump is far from a true conservative, how he changes his mind overt and over and do not like the way he has campaigned, let him have his chance and the party will go from there.
Just wondering if you were making a series mistake ;-)
