Ted Cruz's election manager's 'mocking' House of Cards style radio ad 'contributed' to suicide of Missouri governor candidate

Tom Schweich, a Republican candidate for governor of Missouri, killed himself on February 26 last year at his home in Clayton, St Louis His political mentor, former Senator John Danforth, has said Ted Cruz's campaign manager Jeff Roe contributed to his death Roe took responsibility for an advert that criticized Schweich's appearance and said he looked like the deputy sheriff in The Andy Griffith Show Mr Danforth spoke to Schweich two days before his death and said he was upset about the advert

Ted Cruz's campaign manager contributed to the death of Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich, it has been claimed.

Schweich's political mentor, former Senator John Danforth, has said Jeff Roe must shoulder some of the blame for his death last year.

He also questioned Cruz's decision to employ Roe as a senior strategist in his election campaign.

Roe has firmly rejected any responsibility for the suicide and police have not in any way assigned him with legal culpability for Schweich's death.

Schweich, a Republican candidate for governor, killed himself on February 26 at his home in Clayton, St Louis.

A year ago, Roe was working for Catherine Hanaway, who was Schweich's leading primary opponent.

The race quickly turned ugly when one of Hanaway's supporters, John Hancock, started telling people Schweich was Jewish.

He was in fact Episcopalian, though of Jewish ancestry.

Schweich suspected Hanaway's allies had started an anti-Semitic whisper campaign against him - a prospect he found deeply disturbing, according to reports from local and national publications.

Man those kids hate being there. I hate to admit it, but Cruz really does use his kids like props. It’s very sad :(

I’m a Trump supporter, but this has to be one of the sleaziest hit pieces on anyone this year.

You’re a lot like Don Knotts. Please conduct yourself accordingly.

amen. the irrationality of this battle has people who used to seem like good analysts now more like conspiracy theorists looking for any little morsel to try to create a conspiracy

I am also an avid Trump supporter and definitely don’t want to see Ted Cruz win the nomination in anything but a first ballot win, but this is no avenue to condemn Cruz’ actions.

Cruz has been responsible for far more shadier subterfuge than this in my opinion.

I guess I’ll chalk it up to tit-for-tat response because of some of the stuff the Cruz side says about Trump, but this won’t be included in my repertoire of valid Cruz responses.

Ted Cruz kills people, hiring people to urge folks to suicide.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, supporting a murderer.

Danforth was a big-time RINO. Mentored Clarence Thomas but his votes made me puke.

Don Knotts?
How so?
That was my first take, also.
The various photos of these poor kid’s interactions, combined with Heidi’s statement that she saw nothing wrong with her girl’s being raised by their housekeeper is quite disturbing to me as mom to a mini-mob.
Then the photo of them with the Trumps, so at ease and cuddling up speaks volumes.
I too, feel very sorry for them.

Nothing about Cruz but Roe should never criticize anyone’s appearance as he could be Michael Moore’s brother.

This story was on the street a long time before Trump was ever in the race.

You’re not capable of mature emotions, because you’re an emotionally stunted failure, looking for some national leader to excuse your failure (by blaming others) and take care of you.

In other words, you’re a Trump supporter.

I hear you. If being likened to Barney Fife pushes you over the edge, you’re on shaky ground to start with.

The suicide was not a decision made by Roe, so I do not think it fair to blame him for the death. But still, for him to remain in the slime business afterward is something I think most people could not relate to morally.

And once again I am disappointed in a moral choice Cruz has made, this time for hiring a slime artist with so little apparent moral conscious. But I still maintain that Cruz is caught up in desperately trying save a diminishing hope that he may see as too bright and important to notice how his feet have wondered down a dark path.

My original choices, in this order, were: Walker, Cruz, Trump.

When viewed in the lens of history, Cruz will regret hiring a scumbag like this. I believe it cost Sen. Cruz plenty.

From the Ben Carson & Voter Violation things in Iowa, to the lies about Rubio and Kasich, and so much more (forget the myriad lies he’s told about Trump), incorporating the Bushies...his reputation is gone

This clown of a campaign manager has pissed away a chance for SCOTUS or VP for Sen. Cruz. I also think he has guaranteed him a well funded primary opponent for his Senate race.

That he let this young, 44 year old, first term Senator continue in this race, with the obvious tidal wave coming... is political malpractice from a guy who just wanted to continue his massive payday.

This guy has made Ted Cruz a “has been.”

Trump is rounding third and heading home, and the only people who don’t realize it are the Cruzers.
