Transgender people should be able to use whatever bathroom they want, Donald Trump said Thursday.
"Oh, I had a feeling that question was going to come up, I will tell you. North Carolina did something that was very strong. And they're paying a big price. There's a lot of problems," the Republican presidential candidate said during a town hall event on NBC's "Today."
Referring to comments from an unnamed commentator who on Wednesday said North Carolina should "leave it the way it is right now," Trump said he agreed.
"Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all the business that's leaving, all of the strife -- and this is on both sides. Leave it the way it is," he said, referring to companies that have canceled plans to move or expand businesses in the state as a result of the law, which bans transgender individuals from using a bathroom that does not match their gender at birth.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate," Trump said. "There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic -- I mean, the economic punishment that they're taking."
Matt Lauer then asked whether Trump has any transgender people working for his company.
"I really don't know. I probably do. I really don't know," Trump said, answering that he would allow, say, transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner to use whatever bathroom she wanted at Trump Tower.

One answer: State issue. Each state decides their bathroom policy, it’s not a federal issue.
Another answer: We have big problems, we have to beat ISIS, and you want to talk about BATHROOMS!!?!!?!?! We have been doing fine on the bathroom issue since this country was created!
Perhaps, but consider this: If anyone can enter whatever bathroom they want any time they want, doesn't that make the bathroom a public place? May as well build them without walls or doors!

This is exactly right. There are significant numbers of us who don’t really care about the social issues and kind of wish they would go away. It’s the economy and borders.

Trump’s right. Drag queens going in the bathrooms been going on forever. Most stay in a stall. If one turns out to be a pervert they get the hell beat out of them anyway. Liberals have made this an issue.

I would love to know how important this is to people. Recent lists of important issues placed global warming at the very bottom out of 20. How low would you have to go for this to register? I’m sure it would be below the declining bee population and Pythons in Florida.
If Trump had said: ‘No I don't agree with this, men should use men's rooms and women should use women's rooms’ he would have been taken to task for not agreeing to the ‘gay laws’ that were passed;
If Trumps agrees with: ‘No I don't have a problem with this, then those of us that don't agree with this and the ‘gay laws’ he is going to be thrown down for that...
Did you not think when the ‘gay laws’ were passed that this wasn't going to come up? If you didn't, you have your head in the sand, and don't think for a minute that the ‘polygamy laws’ are going to be coming next, they are, they already have in Utah...
When Utah was a territory and they were fighting to become a State, the government told them not until they get rid of polygamy, so the Prophet of the Mormon Church talked to God and was told ‘get rid of the law’ so they did, and became a State...is polygamy practiced in Utah? Yes they are...
