(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."
AD FEEDBACK
Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."
Again, how do you propose to impeach these judges? Who will bring the proceedings? Where will the votes come from? Who is the champion for this “standard practice”? Your airy suggestions carry about as much weight as a proposed Constitutional convention for a marriage amendment. I’m looking for something real, not platitudes and feel good phrases.
You stop lying with support of a candidate who has no legitimate voter path to nomination. You know in his heart he would do this now and excuse and explain it way like he did with TPP and TPA support. I heard it in his stubborn insistent vehemence in his interview with Hannity last time.
Lies. “1.3 million voters across the last 5 states I’ve won, blah, blah, blah confirm I’m in the right.” 5 states and only 1.3 million voters? They were Wisconsin. The others were party delegate selection.
A guy in a wifebeater, Nikes, and jeans can claim to be a transgender.
Batman has to go after super-villains - and not after people who play their stereo too loud or jaywalk. Social issues won’t win you an election. The wall and trade will win the election.
That is a workable solution, and it will work in the real world. It is a solution that seems to be approaching faster and faster with each passing year.
Sic transit gloria mundi.
Not a helpful post. I intend to fight it, write about it to him, and make my decisions accordingly.
No, I’m trying to let in on something that exists and is real. There are many many of us out here who are tired of the social issues dragging the party down. We want to concentrate on immigration and terrorsim and we can’t. You may not agree with me, but you simply can’t ignore those of us who aren’t social warriors. We are part of the party, too.
Why would I give a crap about polls? Do you think reality and social forces are going to be held back because of the opinions of idiocracy?
Yes, it’s not 1980 and Ronald Reagan isn’t coming to save America. I’m already preparing.
Well, good luck with that. I’ll work with realistic people on real world solutions.
Dude, it’s not that hard. He thinks it is cool to let men who are attracted to women use the women’s bathroom, despite what actual women might think about it.
As far as the gay thing, they have always used the bathroom of their sex. It’s always been a problem, too. Thus the wide stances and holes through stalls in the men’s bathroom.
This new thing would be like letting men who are attracted to women use the women’s bathroom as long as they claim they believe they are women too. You don’t think that is different?
Come on, it isn’t that hard, right?
Freegards
Good points but what you’re largely pointing out here is that there are different cultural norms for bathroom use across the globe. And that’s fine. Nothing “objectively” wrong with any cultural norm in that respect.
In the same vein though, each country’s culture should be respected and not influenced by a tiny, vocal minority. In this country normal people have been raised to go into the bathroom of their natural gender. And in our culture it’s just taboo (right or wrong doesn’t matter) that a man be in a woman’s bathroom.
And also, what you point out with the trannys in the past is different. Back before this became such a mess, the tranny men would still use the MEN’s bathroom. Might get their @$$ kicked sometimes but they would’ve still used the men’s room. Now they are insisting using the WOMEN’s bathroom, and that’s what’s different than the situations you’ve described.
Bottom line the way I see it either all bathrooms should become “gender neutral” in some way or men who are born men should not be allowed in women’s areas. I don’t know how one could make such gender neutral bathrooms (maybe just a separate area for the “business” but a common one where you wash up, like all women’s rooms now).
Also you have a few trannys now demanding that they be allowed in women’s LOCKER rooms, and that’s something no normal person should truck. At least I’d hope we could all agree there. Trump’s answer to that hypothetical might prove interesting.
Cruz has a legitimate path. Trump has to over perform by 200% of his average to date in the final states to secure the nomination.
Its not going to happen for Trump.
On to the second ballot then.
There, Cruz kicks his rear.
When my son was young, I would take him into the women’s restroom. When he decided he WOULD not use a women’s restroom (about 5 or 6 I think) I would knock on the men’s restroom door, if someone answered we would wait. If not, I would open the door and look.
While he was in there, I would stand by the door and if someone came up, open the door and call my son. That always delayed whoever wanted in for long enough for my son to come out.
I don’t have a daughter but with my nieces, I never allowed them to go unattended into a restroom. We one time ran into a man in there, I just asked him what he was doing, asked him to leave and he did.
If he had not, we would not have entered. I would imagine in my life time I have shared a restroom with some strange people and several I have not entered or left when I saw who was in there.
Life is like that. I don’t need the government, federal, state or city telling me to use common sense. As already stated, in other countries, culture and values are not the same. We are in a sorry state if we only live inside a protective little bubble, expecting the world to protect us from any and all insults to our values.
I am for govt not enforcing anything as much as possible. See the difference? Let the private sector decide its own bathroom rules. The public visiting the private establishment can then decide if they should patronize the business or not based on that policy.
It’s so frustrating sometimes. Demographics are different and the old strategies don’t work. I’m stunned at what is left as our choices after such a large field started.
But Trump will almost inevitably collide with aspects of the underlying issue, and that raises many other issues, which will require considerable thought on the part of all of us. (I have thought about them for years; but simply do not have the time to put it all down in a response that no one will read because of the length. For background, I am completely in agreement with the late David Lawrence--publisher of U.S. News--who considered the "Amendment" a disgraceful embarrassment; never validly ratified & wholly inconsistent with the warp & woof of our Constitutional theory.)
Is putting together a group and coming up with a solution kind of like, oh, I don't know, say, reaching across the aisle?
Nah! Trump.
Trump trump.
The obvious answer is...you can't.
That's why I believe ALL responsible women...and girls...should have some sort of protection when they enter a public restroom nowadays. That protection could be in the form of a stun gun, pepper spray...or a gun.
A woman I know very well has already informed me that if a man who isn't the janitor enters the restroom she's in, she's hosing him down with pepper spray. "I felt threatened for my life" is what she'll tell any cop who shows up.".
