(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."

Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."
Agreed; see my previous. It is hard to be a rational salmon on FR when people here start going nuts over the wrong thing.

There is no good answer Trump can give on social hot button issues. I am glad he learned from the abortion gotcha question and answered as he did. He disarmed the left doing this and move on to important issues.
Social hot button issues tend to make people focus on small stuff as if it was more important than the big stuff - it is very distracting. Like the sound of an annoying insect makes you focus on killing it and makes you ignore the tiger about to jump on your back while you swat at flies.

This is a case of Trump not getting pulled off message to a controversy that would only hurt him at this point both in the bulk of the remaining states and in the general election.

It’s not a good situation, but there’s no real answer to it except having a family bathroom like at most airports.
First of all, as a conservative male heterosexual, I’ve used women’s bathrooms in the past 70 years; for instance when the men’s room was out of order and I had to go bad enough...
Secondly, If a transgender male is indistinguishable from a female, it would be disruptive (maybe more so) for him to use the men’s room. It would be least disruptive to use the ladies room I would think.
Thirdly, When I traveled (without my spouse) with my kids when they were young (and that was 35 or 40 years ago). I never let either my son or my daughter go into a public bathroom alone. My daughter would have to use the men’s room or I would have to take her in the ladies room. So this is not a new issue that families have to deal with... It just requires common sense, not laws.
So in that respect, Trump is right. Leave things the way they were. It has always been an issue and has never been a problem. we don’t need new laws.
The bottom line is, the people have spoken. They elected Obama twice, and that tells me this is what a plurality of this nation wants. I just hope they are ready to bear the consequences which are surely to come. I reserve the right to decide not to be a part of it when that time comes.
I’m not a Trump supporter, and that’s not an answer. Again, please give me a realistic course of action on how Oberfell is reversed and same sex marriage is again outlawed. Stop tap dancing around my question and give me something concrete.

I will refuse to shop/spend any of money at any place that does not have gender-specific restrooms. I am hoping that companies start building single-stall restrooms now. It will cost them a lot of money, but that’s nothing compared to what they will lose with this “let’s share” idea.
It amazes me that people can overlook this type of stuff from Trump and say they will vote for him specifically because of the border fence.
He may have done this because he thinks he needs to get the left of center crowd, but he is making the assumption that he will keep the rest of his supporters. There are a lot of Christians who had been holding their noses and planning to vote for him because of his competition in the GOP, but this is the kind of stuff they will finally cause us to desire a contested convention.

You don't know me or my faith (and I am very religious). You did not get my point hat these issues are distractions and also conservatives should be for limited govt even in areas they hate like what people do sexually.
