Ohio governor and Republican presidential candidate John Kasich gently criticized Senate Republicans' approach to President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, suggesting lawmakers should at least meet with the nominee, and even saying he'd consider nominating Garland himself, as president.
"I never thought the president should send it because I knew nothing was going to happen," Kasich told "Face the Nation" in an interview taped for Sunday's broadcast.
"Frankly," he added, "they probably ought to all sit down and meet with the guy."
Senate Republican leaders have adamantly refused to consider the nomination of Garland, who's currently a federal appeals court judge. While most of the Senate GOP caucus has refused to even meet with the nominee, some individual GOP senators have said they'd be willing to sit down with him, and at least one - Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk - has broken with his party and called for a vote on Garland's nomination.
"My feeling is, at the end of the day, whoever gets elected president should be in a position to be able to pick you know who they want and the American people will either decide by voting for a Republican or Democrat what the makeup of the court is," Kasich said in the interview, which was taped Saturday.
The Ohio governor even suggested he'd consider naming Garland himself if he wins the presidency, noting the praise the nominee has received from conservatives in the past.

Some folks here want that goofball as Trumps VP.
They should have their voting rights stripped.
what a prick. This guy is going batshi* rino crazy!
He’d consider nominating Garland himself, after he heard that he believes in gun control?
The Soros Fund Management supports Kasich to the tune of $200,000.

Behold another RINO slime loser.
He’s a GOPe robot.
I loved Taft. He had the GOP nomination in his pocket until Earl Warren and the entire delegation of California switched their votes to Ike on Second ballot. I wonder what happened to Warren after that? (sarc) This was the work of Dewey, the two-time loser of the presidency. Now that was a brokered convention.
I cannot cast the first stone, but Kasich is not discerning good from evil imo.
You didn’t even have to tell us that, John. We could figure that out on our own.
I believe Kasich is trying to run to the left of Hillary.
Can this now put to rest ALL IDIOT TALK of V.P. Kasich?
Like he’s trying to lose votes.
He’s a “Republican” like John Lindsay was a “Republican”.
And Kasich favors amnesty.
LOCAL YOKEL KASICH
Kasich/s "I'm-Just-A-Regular Guy act is wearing thin, The facts are these:
Kasich was managing director of Lehman/s Columbus, Ohio investment banking division until the bank went under in 2008. Kasich says "I wasn't involved in the inner workings of Lehman, I was a banker. I didn't go to board meetings or go and talk investment strategy with the top people."
Kasich is lying b/c a report in The Columbus Dispatch, quotes a Lehman official who said Kasich had board level and CEO relationships where he helped not only open the door for Lehman Brothers, but he also was a key member of the deal team providing advice.
==========================================
What does Kasich know about this?
The best book on the 2008-9 banking crisis that slaughtered our economy was The Sellout, by Charles Gasparino. He traces several threads:
- How the investment banks (Merrill, Lehman, Bear Stearns) had leveraged themselves into near-death experiences;
- How banks gave out low-down payment mortgages to buyers with sub-standard credit, forcing up prices;
- How the scam of "securitization" meant these sub-standard loans could be bundled up and sold far and wide (w/ great losses to the buyers);
- How the ratings agencies gave out dubious AAA ratings
- How the sales incentives to create mortgage-backed securities led to incredible short term behavior on the part of investment bankers;
- How AIG (insurance) screwed up by guaranteeing many Credit Default Swaps....etc, etc, etc.
==============================================
Kasich got the Lehman job b/c he introduced Ohio pension reps to Lehman officials (2010)
Did Kasich fcilitate Lehman doing education, transportation, municipal bonding deals for Ohio?
(The bonding scam: That/s where the pols and the bank make zillions of dollars in perpetuity....leaves the taxpayers w/ huge tax bills....in perpetuity).
Just heard on FOX that Hillary is taking the week end off, probably doctor orders for that constant cough she has...won't be back on the trail until Monday afternoon..they said she is so comfortable of a WIN that she can afford the time off..Really???? wait until Trump gets a hold of her..
said Bill Clinton will campaign for her tomorrow at 5:30 pm in AZ. he hasn't been around for a couple weeks...guess he needed a rest too...he does look close to the end of the line..
He’s either angling for left dem votes, or he’s so into himself he doesn’t know that this is not popular among the right half of the country. Either way, he’s pretty far off the mark. Not sure he’s in sync with much of anything but himself. He believes he’s the only sane one in the running.. and he believes he will become the nominee at the convention.. and he believes he will beat hillary and become the President. This afternoon at one of his speeches, he said those who will present him with the nomination at the convention, said he was the one with the best qualifications to be President (saw this in the news). He really does believe all this... I’m wondering if it’s me who is missing something.
If he is trying to keep that fact hidden, he is doing a very poor job of it.
He is a RINO
Kasich should seriously consider running in the Democratic primary and I’m not even being sarcastic here.
