This week, in the Utah nominating caucus, I will vote for Senator Ted Cruz.
Today, there is a contest between Trumpism and Republicanism. Through the calculated statements of its leader, Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.
The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.
I like Governor John Kasich. I have campaigned with him. He has a solid record as governor. I would have voted for him in Ohio. But a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.
I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican.

This is not even an endorsement of Cruz.
It is an endorsement of a brokered convention using Cruz to get there so they can nominate what they call a “real” republican.
Romney doesn’t even indicate that Cruz is that “real” republican.
It is clear what the GOPe is doing here...they are trying to coopt the Cruz campaign to get to a brokered convention where they will, as I predicted, throw Cruz to the curb.
It is up to Cruz to recognize this and not go along with it.
I hope Cruz will, as soon as his combined total and Trump’s combined total of delegates cross the threshold...at that point Cruz should endorse Trump and end this GOPe gambit.
It is clear that the vast majority of GOP Primary voters (something approaching 70%) have voted for non-GOPe candidates.
It is clear that to date, something like 78% of the delegates that have been chosen are committed to non-GOPe candidates.
Therefore, Sen. Cruz, you hold it in your power to make sure that the will of the people is respected.
Throw in with Trump and send the GOPe packing.

So the Trump fans keep cheering on that he can get "crossover" Democrat votes, but we're not allowed to take a vote from a Republican? If Cruz can get the RINOs to cross over for him, that's as good as Trump getting the Democrats, isn't it?

You guys want those wonder Gope/RINO votes? Then have them since they are there so they can get enough delegates away from Trump so they can dump them both! They flat-out state it to your face.
They sure as hell aren’t there because they are voting for Cruz, unlike the Dem crossovers that are mainly coming because blue-collar types want nothing to do with Hillary or Bernie, and actually supports Trump’s positions.

I do not claim to have any significant political divination abilities. However, it is difficult for me to envision Cruz kowtowing to DC masters, after what he went through with the government shutdown. He is not even on speaking terms with McConnell, and vice versa.
Therefore this Romney endorsement looks and feels like a concession that GOPe is “on the ropes.”
In that case, Cruz and Trump are in the catbird’s seat. Separately, neither of them alone may be strong enough to prevail. But together, they can at least carry the Republican nomination with ease, which in consideration of the many Hillary weaknesses, puts them within spitting distance of the White House.
So IMHO, the time is right for a deal to be worked out between Trump and Cruz. In particular, Cruz would be great as a USSC justice once Trump wins the presidency. Cruz supporters would win, and Trump supporters would win. What a concept!

He’s not even really endorsing Cruz. He’s USING Cruz to get to a brokered convention. They are using you, Ted. I support Trump, but I would not allow Romney to disrespect me like that. I’d disavow his endorsement. It would probably get Ted MORE voters if he did that.
These Mormons pretend to be nice, but lets take a look.
Mitt’s dad attacked Goldwater, Harry Reid is a nasty mob infested rat, Glenn Beck has fantasy’s of stabbing people, and Mitt savaged a guy who gave lots of money , raised money for Mitt and endorsed him 4 years ago.
Utah Voters next Tuesday you get a chance to prove you don’t like this Mormon behavior. Do what Evangelicals did, they gave Cruz the cold shoulder and voted for Trump.
