What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Right. I don’t want someone to cut DEALS with the Dems. We’ve had 10 years of deal making. I want someone who’ll change the course of this country.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for Hillary. Trump can stop her, but Cruz would graciously lose to her.

Trump is already on record several years ago saying that Hillary would make a great president.

Hillary will run that as an ad over and over again.

The world is at war.

Do we seek the most conservative military leader to lead us...or do we seek the general who can win and save our bacon.

Our country is going down the drain. Do we seek the most conservative senators and congressmen to save it...or do we turn to someone who might actually save it?

Katmowan...you need to break out of your linear thinking processes and use your noodle.

Liberal/Conservative is one plane of existence. But there are others.

For example.

Who can pull our country out of the morass that both Democrats and presumably conservative Republicans have put us in.

Perhaps it isn't a matter of right or left...perhaps it is a matter of effectiveness.

Perhaps it is a matter of common sense...perhaps it is a matter of wisdom.

And if he will, it will be good for our country.

This, of course, is the problem. Will Trump do what he says, or is he running a ponzi scheme. No one knows. The one good thing about Trump's campaign is that it has a real chance of destroying the corrupt Republican Party apparatus. This is distinctive different from the conservative philosophy that gave legs to the modern Republican Party. The careerist politicans have abandoned that years ago, except for election year polemics. I don't think that Trump is much better than the career Republican politicians, he's just different.

To a large degree, I don't believe FR is the same as it was during the krinton regime when I first started coming here. Today, a lot of the traffic seems to be the neocon tribe that never knew Reagan, let alone Goldwater.

The instant gratification of the web has trumped (excuse the use of the word) the patient learning that many conservatives had to do during the decades of information black-out due to MSM control. In those years, we read what conservative journals were available and we discussed politics with our more reasonable neighbors and friends. In short, we prepared for ideological battle.

In these times, folks are repelled by the vile corruption and patent lies of the left look for similar cyber realms to vent on. Smash mouth beats fact. In due time, many of the old timers have left. Of course, there were epic - galactic - flamewars back at the beginning. Now, much of it is slogans and curses in capital letters. It seems to be a case of the tail wagging the dog. Our convictions are now sound bites and we use volume where reason once ruled.

I prepare for the death of the Republic because few there be that remember what that means. In the meantime, I read posts and applaud the stalwarts still here.

I assume Jim Robinson got some cash from Trump.

When making nasty accusations it's good etiquette to ping the target.

I will bet that 98% of your responses will be three single syllabic responses, slightly beyond grunts and farts

Nope Surprisingly few Cruz zealots left to sputter and vomit out insults. With each passing day Cruz embraces more neocons and puts them in leadership positions.

As desperately as people wanted to believe the fantasy that Ted really was the conservative he pretended to be, it becomes harder and harder to maintain the denial.

I gave up when he brought in the billion and a half dollar conman who only stayed out of prison because daddy was the vice president.
