What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]
Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779
Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Once roused, anti-Establishment sentiment can be hard to control or direct.
Your guy may be a rebel or a maverick in the Senate, but for a lot of voters he is -- as a grad of two Ivy League schools, a Senator, the husband of an investment banker, and a former Supreme Court law clerk, corporate lawyer and government regulator -- the embodiment of the Establishment.
That's not to say that the other guy isn't in some sense Establishment as well, but Ted should have recognized going in that there was only so far the anti-elitist line would get him before it started to hurt his chances.
Ditto for the National Review boys. Guys, if anybody is part of the Washington Establishment, you are.

The issue is no longer conservatism versus liberalism. Thanks to the globalists pushing too far and too rapidly, it’s now globalism versus nationalism.

My responses are embedded in red. "quote" Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Yes, he donated BUT he is a BUSINESSMAN. He donates to those that can help him, in BUSINESS Suddenly he is a conservative He never said he's a conservative. He's for AMERICA FIRST. People don't support him because he's a "conservative", they support him because he's the only one going after the establishment who was elected in '10 and '14 with promises to go after jugears, and they didn't. He's going after what "conservatives" have been begging for. after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He is a BUSINESSMAN, understand? He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, NO ONE hates Cruz. I would gladly push the button for Trump OR Cruz to keep Hitlary or Rumplehair out of the White House. After 8 years of jugears, surely you can understand that. Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting. What's disgusting is a large number of Cruz people who rail against the man who is working to save this country. Sure, he may be liberal on some things. I can live with that, but he hits my hotbuttons. 1) Take care of vets. Fix the VA. 2) Build the wall 3) Kick out "refugees" UNTIL they've been properly vetted 4)Fix the trade imbalance. We're getting our as*es kicked and people are out of work. 5) STOP all illegal immigration and make people come in LEGALLY. Do you disagree with all this?

You’re bemoaning the same situation that many have been bemoaning since the ascendance of Trump is this campaign. Three of the biggest issues in this campaign, issues that concern a big swath of Americans more than any others, simply do not fit neatly into any definition of conservatism, or liberalism, or anything else.
And those issues are immigration, trade and foreign policy. But, if there is a perfect, pure conservative position for each of those, by all means enlighten the world with your wisdom.

If you’ve been gone for awhile, pull up a chair and see what has been going on.
There is much more going on in the USA than just a struggle between Libs and Conservatives.
First lesson, Jeb is gone, Rubio is gone and the ruling portion of the GOP is struggling to stay in power.
If you can accept that, you will feel comfortable with the new FR.
If you are here to promote the Old Guard, the greatness of the Bush Family, you might want to turn tail fast.
Just some very friendly advice.

He does not need Congress to build a wall! The President is in charge of “the interior” and he can use the budget dollars from one of the departments.
I ask you: How does Obama get all the dollars to give away without Congress? From his department budgets already approved by Congress!
To: katwoman5779
Oh smack me in the face and call me stupid, then you want me to vote for YOUR candidate, since I’m too stupid to have an opinion - yeah that’s rich.
MY CRITERIA: someone that has signed a paycheck on the FRONT and there are only 2 standing that have done that and it ain’t your guy that’s included.
Sorry that I just ain’t as smart and intellygent as U R.

You counting Total Votes or GOP Primary votes? Trump got 66% (Roughly) of the GOP. That will bring him up about 10-15 points short of Hillary in the general.

Rest assured Trump will cut DEALS with the DC establishment should he be elected President. I hope to hell he does cut deals and he cuts them so sharp the Establishment loses fingers while they think they are getting the family farm. That's why we need a tough negotiator.
How do you think he is going to accomplish his pledged agenda without working with Congress?

Ted Cruz is not, I repeat NOT, a constitutional conservative. Only low info voters think he is a constitutional conservative simply because that is what he calls himself. High info voters have looked at his record and decided he is a GOPe uniparty globalist hack.

Ill take a Canadian Christian any day over what we have now.
You just outed yourself. The fact that he is a Christian is more important than the constitutional conservative moniker

Disagreeing that Cruz is the best candidate is not “hate”.
Please do not be like some liberals, who label disagreement with their world-views to be “hate”.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for Hillary.
Trump can stop her, but Cruz would graciously lose to her.

The Majority are Populists. How correct you are. I read a most that questioned why the Founders established the Electoral College? Let a few looney lefties and their sycophants in the media question the electoral college and the FR populists jump on board. We are so screwed.
