Well.....that pretty much describes Ohio then, doesn’t it?
This may be Constitutional from a States Rights point of view. But did the Ohio Judge interpret law or re-write state law? If the state has law saying what the legal age of voting is, who is the judge to change that?
I have no issues with a voting age of 25. You must also pass a simple 5 question test on the Constitution. You must also show identification.
If it were up to me, the voting age nationwide would be 25 (with the sole exception being active duty servicemen 18 and over). There's a good reason why auto insurance rates drop by about 1/2 when you turn 26: that's about the age when people start to develop an inkling of sound judgment and start thinking with their neocortex instead of with the impulse zones in their lower brain.
The judge upheld the law as written. Our SOS attempted to rewrite it rather than using the state legislative process to change it.

And that would be unconstitutional without a constitutional amendment. HOWEVER if a state wanted to require a written test for 17 year olds, it would be perfectly legal.
Personally, the less federal intervention, the better IMHO.
Sounds legit as you describe it then. So is the upheld law specific about 17 year olds that will be 18 at time of the November election, or ambiguous such that the state “may” let anyone under 18 vote?

I think the Perineal Battleground is a faaaaaaabulous bar in Columbus.
State law says that if they will be 18 by the General, they can vote to nominate. They cannot vote on local tax issues.
I think the mistake many make, especially the friggin media, is that the Feds are or should be in charge of everything.

I remember as an 18 year old stationed at Fort Gordon, GA, we couldn't legally drink off-base. Had to drive to South Carolina for a night on the town.
Hell, return it to property owners (those whom pay TAXES). Enough with the leeches being allowed to vote for more goodies on the backs of others (yeah, welfare’s still illegal/unconstitutional...just as much ‘lawful’ as the War on Drugs, gun control, fiat currency, SS, etc.)

Me either, it makes total logical sense and I’m kinda surprised it is generating any controversy here.
And LOL to all of you wanting to raise the voting age. If the country can legally draft and compel someone into military service at 18, they should be able to vote.
If you are an Ohio resident, you certainly have a voice and can petition our state government. If you are not, conservatism and federalism allow you to reside in a state whose election laws are more agreeable to you.
I for one like the fact that a state still has a right to make its own decision on something. That’s getting rarer and rarer, and I would caution those who consider themselves conservative from trying to literally make a “federal issue” out of this.
Ohio’s ABILITY to do this is a good thing, whether you like the law itself or not. That whole “laboratory of democracy” type stuff our founders were so fond of.
