Fox News Hits Three Year Perception Low With Republicans
YouGov BrandIndex ^ | 2/24/16 | Ted Marzilli

Posted on 02/26/2016 11:55:23 PM PST by M. Thatcher

Since the first GOP presidential debate last August, Fox News Channel seems to have lost its perception mojo with its core right-leaning audience.

By mid February, FNC’s perception by Republican adults 18 and over had reached its lowest point in more than three years, and has declined by approximately 50% since January of this year.

Coinciding with Trump’s rise to front-runner in the GOP presidential race, Fox News Channel has seen its perception by Republicans slide. In early August 2015, right after the first GOP debate aired on Fox News Channel,Trump went on a Twitter war with moderator Megyn Kelly, saying she “bombed” and calling her “a lightweight reporter.”

The picture hasn’t been rosy in terms of the general population either: since last May, Fox News Channel’s perception levels with adults 18+ have uncharacteristically been drawing significantly more negative feedback than positive. At this point, both FNC and CNN are scoring at similar perception levels and they are both negative.

To measure perception of the two networks, YouGov BrandIndex used its Buzz score, which asks respondents: "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?" A score can range from 100 to -100 with a zero score equaling a neutral position.

On January 1, 2013, Fox News Channel’s Buzz score with Republican adults 18 and over was 49. By the first GOP debate last August, the score had dropped to 38. The downward momentum accelerated earlier this year when Fox News Channel’s score dropped from 36 on January 18th to 14 on February 12th. Trump declined to participate in FNC’s sanctioned GOP debate on January 28th. Fox News Channel’s current Buzz score is 17.

Without researching the following generalization I think I can safely say that few of the people appearing on news shows actually have journalism degrees. Most are just personalities with handsome features and too many of them are lawyers. And their complaints that Internet blogs lack legitimacy because their views lack a journalistic editorial filter reeks of hypocrisy since they themselves are many times less journalistic and derive their supposed legitimacy due to their larger soap box. As for Megan Kelly, her first question to Trump smacked of “gotcha” and was couched as prosecutorial feminism akin to “are you still beating your wife or have you stopped”? So women are free to attack men with impunity and to respond in kind as Trump did is sexist? It would be more sexist to cow tow to Rosie O’Donnel and not engage in discourse due to her gender. She can’t attack someone and not expect a response in kind no matter her gender. But Kelly, being a lawyer and thus one of the least liked professionals in the country knew all of this to begin with but couldn’t resist the opportunity to be the one to bring Trump down. But she got out of it what she wanted more fame and fortune with a women’s magazine cover spread and a bidding war between Fox (Roger Ailes) and CNN (Jeff Zucker) with Kelly the winner. Contrast her question of Trump with her questions of the other candidates and you are left with an unfair and unbalanced conclusion and that Trump handled the question beautifully by saying “come on it was Rosie O’Donnell”!

CNN is at times leaning favorably for Trump, FOX will snarl, bite, scratch, whimper and whine trying to say anything about Trump.

Its going to be a VERY interesting first 48 hours for Trump, the media, and the nation after he is sworn in.

The libel laws for instance.....

Its time to discipline the media, they are a petulant stuck up unruly brat. No more. No more.

There was n article years ago in which it was said Shep Smith was planned to be the new face of Fox. Lately it appears it is MeGYN K. I sense a pattern, and it is NOT what made Fox.

Has Fox News given any coverage to JEB! AND THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY. Any interviews with Roger Stone and/or Saint John Hunt?

Even though Jeb! is out of the race, the crime family, and the Bush wing of the GOP are still in business.

Is it any wonder?

It’s a 24/7 infomercial for Trump or Rubio...

Folks supporting each of those candidates get pissed when the other is getting propped up, and those of us supporting Cruz get the shaft when it comes to the getting ANY favorable coverage.

It seems their strategy is to just piss off their entire customer base.
I wonder if they realize how vulnerable they are.
It won’t take much for a true conservative network to rise up and then they’ll be just the next CNN.

But what should we expect from folks with New York values...

The main beef Trump supporters have with Fox News is the bias treatment.

For instance, you have Megyn Kelly with a personal vendetta against Trump. Half her show is dedicated to attacking Trump, but she is considered a moderator.... Really?

Now does Megyn Kelly equally attack Jeb or Rubio? The short answer is no. While Jeb and Rubio get softball questions all night she continues to ruthlessly attack Trump.

Compound that with a rigged Establishent audience by the GOPe. Bits clearly bias against Trump. Side note.... I’ve never seen so many pro Jeb and Rubio supporters in one place! Yep the audience is mainly consist of the sell out globalist rats. Yet when Rubio or Jeb, when he was still in, at their rallies the crowds were tiny compared to Trump.

When you are cable TV News station like Fox News Network and you damage your brand severly, the that the entire FNC has done to itself....you can very rarely recover the loss of viewrs that hav left. While Megyn Kelly is the poster child of the the FNC decline, she is not the only shortfall causing the destriction of FNC. The entire network is being directed by upper mangement, to take a new and quick path to failure!!! I think folks should accept the fact of TV news reality.......Fox News Network has effctively slit its own business throat. Firing Megyn Kelly is not the answer to salvation. The entire direction and operating staff must be changed...if there is any inkling of iota of a recovery!!! Rupert Murdoch & Roger Ailes have jumped the shark and killed th goose that laid the golden egg!!!

You might also take note that both CNN & MSNBC have made major adjustments to take advantage of the now, ever bleeding FOX News Channels!!! Not-too-bright....FNC!!!

Who is this "we" to which you refer? Deploying the Obama "we?"

Gotcha journalism is not journalism. I want information, not snippy. Megyn Kelly may have been put on this earth to conduct jihad against Trump, but that serves no journalistic purpose and creates no value for me. Fox seeks stature and credibility in the industry by becoming the industry. I find the MSM insufferable; if I wanted to listen to it, why couldn't I just turn the channel?

All anyone needs to know about journalism could have been learned watching Newt Gingrich during the 2012 " debates." Why do you think he got so much standing quality applause?

I’ve never seen FoxNews this bad.

It’s the worst I’ve seen it since the late 1980s.

The real late 80s, give or take a decade or so...

I quit watching FNC after the 1st so-called “debate”. We started watching FNC because at the time, it presented the only alternative to the progressive MSM. Now, with a few exceptions it’s all Uni-Party all the time. So we stopped watching & life goes on.

Obviously, FNC is free (no thanks to the progressives in general) to put whatever they want on their air. I am thankfully free to never watch it.

Levin is starting his own cable TV program. Beck started his.

The Internet will soon take over news programing. The population will segregate into increasingly narrow segments.
