There is no other way to describe it: the Obama policy is to let the Russian/Iranian/Hezbollah axis take over Syria. That is what the current battle for Aleppo is all about.
Times columnist Roger Cohen argues that "It is too late, as well as pure illusion, to expect significant change in Obama's Syria policy." But he proposes that Obama should at least increase the number of Syrian refugees taken in this year to 65,000, as opposed to his currently proposed 10,000. But letting in more refugees scares Americans who suspect that there will be terrorists among them.
Such a proposal plays into the hands of Donald Trump, who wants a moratorium on Muslim immigration, while supporting Russian aggression in Syria. "If Putin wants to go and knock the hell out of ISIS, I am all for it, 100 percent, and I can't understand how anybody would be against it," Trump said during the fourth Republican presidential debate.
As those who understood Russian strategy knew from the start, Putin's policy has been to "knock the hell out" of the anti-Assad rebels, not ISIS. No wonder Putin called Trump "bright and talented." The Russian president figures he would be able to manipulate a President Trump just as easily as he can have his way with Obama.
Yet it's Trump who throws around the word "pussy" at Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), one of his opponents in the Republican presidential campaign.
Like Obama, Trump supports Putin's military aggression in Syria. Unlike Obama, Trump wants to stop the additional refugees from coming in. So Trump looks like a tough guy with his anti-Muslim immigration policy, which is a consequence of his pro-Russian policy that generates the refugees in the first place. It is completely nonsensical.
Meanwhile, Senator Bernie Sanders...

“Note to Cold War Warriors. The Cold War is over. We won.”
And not one more American life (nor one more nickel of our treasury) needs to be spent in that $hithole of the world. If Trump wants to build another wall around the entire ME, I’d be all for it. Treat Israel like Berlin after WWII if need be.
==Well, Cliff Kincaid can’t have that, now, can he, shill that he is.
Kincaid is saying that Trump has unwittingly thrown in with the very actors that are causing the wave of Muslim refugees in the first place.
Nice to see Obama has “evolved.”
They are hugely different.
Obama supports arming one side or the other (or a third) in Syria.
Trump supports a safe zone and let them kill each other with no one getting assistance from us.
I don’t want my kid dying for those beasts in Syria. Rand Paul was exactly right on this. There is no good side in Syria.
Its actually more complicated than the article suggests. Obama’s policy has been completely incoherent. His policy was to take down Assad, which primarily makes sense if your intent is to ramp up pressure on Iran by removing their only ally and window on the Med. But if you are going to give Iran a nuke, why do you need to remove Assad?
But Obama was backing the Turks and Qataris which means, until the whole head-chopping thing became too public and too embarrassing, he was backing ISIS. He isn’t backing the Russians, though, he has simply backed down in the face of Putin’s intervention and the public’s disinterest in going to war against Russia on behalf of people who are slaughtering Christians.
The article mentions that Putin isn’t really attacking Isis, he is attacking the anti-Assad rebels. It doesn’t mention that the anti-Assad rebels self-identify as Al Qaeda. Again, Obama’s policy is incoherent.
To remove Assad and replace him with someone civilized in that part of the world would require a clear-eyed, moral, and steady commander in chief which is something Obama will never be. Replacing him with Isis or Al Qaeda is about Obama’s speed, and he got caught. People have figured out the game and don’t want any part of it.
There is no reason why the US would need to go to war in order to drain the ISIS swamp.
PS Trump is backing Putin’s play in Syria, which is one of the main drivers causing the Syrian refugee crisis.

There was no wave of refugees until the Turks, Qataris, and Obama’s State Department decided to overthrow Assad. And decided that the cleverest way to do it was to recruit jihadists to do the dirty work with the idea of later cutting them out. It was a brilliant plan except that they started slaughtering Syrian Christians, and then invaded Iraq and started slaughtering Iraqi Christians.
And, of course you know that under Obama’s State rules, Christians don’t qualify as refugees because they are slaughtered by non-government actors, while ISIS supporters do qualify as refugees because they are attacked by government forces. Wicked, it is.
Obama’s policy is actually quite coherent (and quite predictable given his communist upbringing and political alliances).
Obama’s goal is nothing less than embrace our enemies and betray and defeat our allies in the region (and all over the world).
If you want to know Obama’s position on just about anything, all you have to do is research the traditional communist position on the same and you will have your answer.
I think Huckabee actually had the original safe zone plan in public. Trump picked it up. Others also have, but we have some real warmongers in there, too.
Jeb wants a BWIII (bush war 3)
I think Cruz is in favor of an air campaign, and I’m okay with that. Rubio and the others also favor US involvement with a land force. Trump isn’t.
I’m not. But then again I have 24 years active duty and I know the price of another idiotic political war to make a politician look tough.
The Soviets were thoroughly secular, and yet Iran was/is one of their main terrorist client states. Same goes for Hamas, Hezbollah, etc, etc.
I do believe the ‘refugee crisis’ was fully ongoing before Russia step in with air-power support for Assad. Anyone who believes Russia was going to allow Syria, a client state, to simply dissolve into chaos doesn’t understand the history of the area.
I could not care less about who rules the Middle East (as long as it does not involve us).
Not my circus. Not my monkeys.
Russia is not our mortal enemy. They have replaced us as the last hope in preserving western culture and Christianity.
Hezbollah has been in Syria and protected by Assad for decades too.
The main driver is a 4 year and counting civil war by US supported head chopping Islamists to overthrow Assad.
When Putin stepped in there were all ready 10,000 of thousands refugees converging on Germany.
LOL!
Actually, this is no laughing matter. You might want to give the following a gander...

Cliff Kincaid is usually on the ball but take in MORE mohammaden “refugees”?
Putin is playing the “Leviathan” against the warring muslims. That’s what is needed in that area.
It serves two purposes for him. Warm water port and the ability to manipulate oil prices/control Europe by flooding with refugees and disrupting fuel supply. This is the long war.
We (the US) can’t even control our hemisphere thanks to the death of the Monroe Doctrine. We have actual enemies of the US in South and Central America as well as the sh#thole Mexico that don’t FEAR us.
