Donald Trump said Tuesday that federal regulators should increase the amount of ethanol blended into the nation’s gasoline supply.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Trump, a real estate mogul and the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ought to follow the ethanol volumes Congress set in 2007.
“The EPA should ensure that biofuel ... blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress under the [renewable fuel standard],†Trump said. The mandate is popular in Iowa, which hosts the nation's first caucuses.

How can conservatives defend government subsidies. Government picking winners? How is that a conservative position?

Easy. Write him and tell him you’re no longer a Trump supporter. He’ll get the message.
Or, you could tell him that you’ve re-interpreted what he said to mean something you can agree with and assure him that you know what he really meant to say.
Your choice. Most Trump supporters have, until now, taken the second route. Most will continue to do so, I suspect. Be different.

I always thought a lottery system might be a useful means of ensuring that no single state dominates election after election after election.

Yes, forgot the supports a national single payer government run health care system.....Trump will expand 0bamacare, not repeal it!
He should be calling for the standards to be abolished while having any and all EPA employees frog marched to the gallows.
Instead, he endorses the standard which means increasing the blend beyond what is tolerable now and empowering the EPA to advance this idiocy.
I mentioned that in another comment - but yes. However, going to E-85 blend will not just make food costs high, it will make food costs significantly higher and so everything else follows - just additional way to destroy the US economy.
