Bill Kristol: ‘We’ll Have to Start’ New Party If Trump Wins Nomination
Breitbart ^

Posted on 12/21/2015 10:07:19 PM PST by TigerClaws

On Monday, Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Bill Kristol tweeted out what the rest of the Republican establishment is thinking: better Hillary than Donald. Here’s the tweet:

Crowd-sourcing: Name of the new party we’ll have to start if Trump wins the GOP nomination? Suggestions welcome at editor@weeklystandard.com

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) December 20, 2015

Kristol isn’t alone. As I wrote at Daily Wire today, Politico’s Jeff Greenfield says, “If the operatives I talked with are right, Trump running as a Republican could well face a third-party run – from the Republicans themselves.” That follows last Thursday’s Politico column from former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman, who compared Trump to Hitler and called him “evil,” and last Wednesday’s Politico column reporting that Jeb Bush’s aides “began looking into the possibility of making a clear break with Trump – potentially with the candidate stating that, if Trump were the nominee, Bush would not support him.”

It isn’t just the conservative base that they look down their noses at, not just the bitter clingers. The plantation analogy works fine. The workers cut across all manner of political ideology.

This COULD BE a good thing long term.

Even short term. We know that they will vote for Hillary if Trump is the nominee. So a third RINO party would take votes away from Hillary.

The Republicans came out of the Whigs.

Every once in a great while there are shifts in American politics. The last on was the shift from Rockefeller Republicans to Reagan Republicans.

It is what it is.

Sore losers, but don’t the conservatives do this when a RINO wins?

The RINOS threatening if Trump wins

Another reason to vote for Trump! If they leave on their own, Constitutional Conservatives won't have to fumigate the Republican Party to get rid of them.

They aren’t much; this is the dying gasp of perhaps 3-4 percent of the Republican party; unfortunately it is most of the people who run Congress and got us into this mess. The Bush loyalists, the neoconservatives, “thinkers” like George Will. All of this resulted in the wonderful Iraq War where we lost thousands of our best young men and women, destroyed any semblance of Iraqi society and incurred perhaps $ 4 billion in spending. They can go, leave and see if anyone wants this motley crew of failures.

This is because they don't stand for anything, except perpetuation of their own position and stature. The party has become their ‘Republican Country Club’, and they don't want the riff-raff to tell them what to have on the menu at the club restaurant, or God forbid, have to rub elbows with them in the locker room.

They wouldn't threaten to start a third party if Cruz was the front runner and there was no Trump, because although they don't like him, Cruz has been granted club membership - begrudgingly. They will at least tolerate him.

Haha! So now it is the RINO who is considering a new party?

Although oddly many of us said that the whole Trump campaign may be to split the party. Isn’t if funny how if Trump wins the nomination and stays in the Republican Party, the RINOs will leave?

So the whole conservative base stays in the party, toes the line, and then the GOP-e bolt giving Hillary the Presidency?

Funny how that all works out isn’t it? And again they manage to control governance against the will of the people.

Doesn’t anyone else see our government is now in open rebellion and deceit against “We the People?” It is not longer just the democrats, liberals, or progressives. We are being hoodwinked into a false choice and Trump is the worlds best carpet bagger.

Excellent — they SHOULD start a new party — the Teddy Roosevelt Progressive Party. Only this time, the charismatic ‘Teddy R’ is Donald Trump, and the Taft is Jeb Bush.

[I hope Taft forgives the comparison since he stood for the Constitution.]

DC pols simply cannot tolerate an outsider who actually intends to represent the wishes of his constituents.

The US hasn’t seen anything like it since Reagan.

>>: if Trump wins, there is no conservative movement in America because conservatives will have abandoned principals for a wall.

Stop arranging the darned deck chairs and help plug the leak in the hull! The economy is wrecked. The barbarians are inside the gates and more are flooding in every day. You put your dainty principles aside when you are in a fight for survival.

This does not surprise me at all. I always thought that either we would have to create a new party or drive the GOPe out. The latter is MUCH better, because merely setting up the infrastructure is extremely difficult to do.

IMHO, regardless of whether it is Cruz or Trump, we will face some version of this. If is Ted, there won't be a different party, but don't expect the GOPe to work for him at all. He will be "Goldwaterized," and the organization will sit on its hands. Cruz will have to have his own national shadow organization. It would very hard.

With Trump I do expect some third party GOPe. The only difference is that because of Trump's crossover appeal, he can replace those voters.
