Jimmy Carter was merely malinformed and incompetent. He occasionally got something right.<p.
0bama is evil, treacherous, and willfully destructive.
Mentioned this yesterday
If I remember correctly, any one of them here on student visas and working/training with our military were sent home immediately
And THAT was under Carter. The rule of law in this country is so far afield we find it shocking for someone to suggest not allowing invasion
Wow, that’s going to bite Chris Cuomo on the tush. Oooops, can I say “tush”?
Murdoch has come out in favor of pausing refugees. This is going to make the anchor’s heads explode
Peanut head did this? Who knew he had the nutz!
KYPD
The attacks of 9/11 changed attitudes since Carter did this.
The dangerous evil of Islam is now naked before the world. And there are two reactions. Cowardice and submission and endless rationalizations for one’s cowardice. Or courage and defiance.
Iranians is different than all Muslims. Iranians have a passport issued by a particular country. Barring a counterfeit, it’s doable.
And that’s exactly how Trump should be handling this.
Or FDR who barred Jews coming here during WW II !
An Evaluation of the Foreign Student Program, By George Borjas June 2002
"There is little doubt that the foreign student program has been spinning out of control for years. The September 11 attacks motivated Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to quickly propose a six-month moratorium on student visas . . . ."
Big Academia stopped Feinstein. Too much money in them foreign students.
Nobody but Daniel Greenfield has the wisdom to find this stuff and put it out there.
He is simply amazing.
He is arguably the best conservative thinker out there.
What a mean republican president carter must have been.
or Franklin Roosevelt.
This fits the term ‘racist’ better than what Trump proposes.
It certainly makes sense. Iran was actively attacking Americans and their interests. I wonder how many American business men had major investments in Iran at the time Carter banned Iranian immigrants. Would it have been legitimate for them to keep running these business? I don’t think it would have been any different than having a business in Nazi Germany.
I don’t know how extensive that ban was. I went to prep school in CT at that time, and we were about 5% Iranian (they often referred to themselves as Persian) from VERY rich families. A couple were stand-up guys. A plurality of the males were hash-head American haters and worthless. The girls were generally cute, dressed well but not according to strict Muslim standards. They were all pretty secular secular. Some were EXTREMELY anti-black.
Shortly before graduation when I was a junior, a black senior who was slated for Georgetown decided to get revenge on a hashhead who had been giving him a hard time all year (including painting nigger on his door, FOR REAL).He used a baseball bat.

Bernie Sanders aside, I doubt any candidate wants to be compared to Jimmy Carter. I'd go with FDR, he stuck it to all kinds of people, including citizens. That said, Trump's approach to the problem could have been a bit more diplomatic. As the article notes, previous bans have been on geographic origin or hostile ideology. A halt until we've sorted these things out would make a great deal of sense.
