Running mate? Tea party activists convinced Trump eyeing Cruz for ticket
Washington Times ^ | 11/26/15 | S.A. Miller

A group of tea party activists is convinced that Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has struck a secret deal with rival Sen. Ted Cruz to guarantee the Texan the vice presidential spot on the ticket, and conservatives are raving that it would be the best pairing since Harry Burnett Reese combined peanut butter and Hershey’s chocolate.

The Cruz campaign vehemently denied that there was an agreement to form the conservatives’ “dream ticket,” while the Trump campaign remained mum.

“There is no such secret deal,” said Cruz campaign national spokesman Rick Tyler.

Still, speculation about an arranged marriage of Mr. Trump’s self-styled conservative crusade and Mr. Cruz’s die-hard tea party convictions gained credibility last week when Mr. Trump broached the subject himself.

Not really, but it seems there is evidence Palin is steering herself toward having Trump understand, she would accept if he selected her as his running mate:

Just saying. That would be the ultimate GOP ticket, in my opinion. 100%, the best ever.

Trump / Palin 2016

:D

I don’t see any way where Trump would settle for VP.

***************

Agree. Trump is in it for the top spot or no spot at all. I think if Trump is the
nominee the VP slot will be filled by someone from one of the 8-10 states that will
decide the national election.

No thank you.
You are correct. Trust Rick Tyler on this, there is no such deal between Ted Cruz and Trump. There are supporters of Trump here abouts, so I won't say more.

Agreed. But “no sense” seems to be far too common nowadays!

Cruz himself has said there’s no such alliance.

Cruz is unelectable, so this is the best scenario.

I agree.

What experience does he have? He has built a fortune in a damn tough business world where his dealings are international. The man has a bevy of people he knows very well who are smart men in their fields. One does not get to the top by being a dummy! We the people DO NOT NEED ANOTHER politician right now. We need someone with know how and guts who is not subservient to the PC Crowd, so warts and all, the only intelligent choice is Trump.

It would be little different than if Obama had picked Cruz and he would likely retract it before taking office.

There is the old joke about two brothers. One went away to sea. The other became vice-president. Neither was either heard of again.

Cruz wants to be president. Being vice-president means that he will have to toe the administration line whether he agrees with it or not and I don't see him doing that. He will be better off remaining in the Senate or running for governor of Texas, where he can be his own man and espouse his own positions.

President of the Senate is NOT a useless job.

Other than breaking a tie what does the President of the Senate do?

FI Trump doesn’t select Cruz for VP—their are many other jobs he would be good for-—Attorney Generals sound good. How about Supream Court Justice? Even Secritary of State would be good.

None of those are paths to the presidency so why would Ted Cruz want any of those jobs?

Has there ever been a member of the Supreme Court who previously ran for President?

William Howard Taft and Earl Warren come to mind.

In my opinion -

Trump will not choose Cruz as a running mate. So far he has run his campaign to win big. He will not choose a running mate that cannot also appeal to all voters, Republicans, Democrats, Independents.

He will not choose Palin either. Same reasons.

I don’t think he will choose a politician period.

Perhaps Trump would be okay with “settling” for VP, particularly if it would help to save our country.

Trump cares about Trump. Nothing takes second place to that, not even the country.

You're spot on. I posted many months ago that Trump will choose as his veep a name that will surprise, but delight us....and delight the voters at large.

I’d love to see Palin vindicated, and she would rock. But it would be more cautious and appear more safe to attract feamle voters with Cruz. Passionate, good looking, and rock-ribbed conservative who feels strongly about safe borders.

No way Cruz appeals to that large of a block of women voters, and, it’s still the old boys club.

“No way Cruz appeals to that large of a block of women voters.”

Yeah, Palin would most likely rock. But unfortunately, even Trump might be tempted to be cautious about VP choice.
