Trump was responding to a Wall Street Journal report that Republican operatives are considering banding together donors from the other GOP campaigns in a bid to knock Trump off the top spot.

Their efforts are taking on increased urgency as the first-in-the-nation Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses near and Trump leads the crowded GOP field for the fourth consecutive month, according to a new national Washington Post-ABC News poll. Some candidates, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida governor Jeb Bush, also are showing more willingness lately to directly attack Trump.

Spot on.

My husband and I have been for Cruz from the beginning. Neither of us will support Trump.

When Trump gave that rambling. disjointed, erratic speech in Iowa—the one where he obsessed on Carson and called Iowans stupid—I asked my husband to watch and give me his opinion.

So he did, and as the video played, the only reactions he gave were the occasional raised eyebrow or shake of the head. When it was over, he said, “That guy doesn’t belong anywhere NEAR the White House.”

If they run Bush or Kasich, the ONLY WAY I’ll vote is 3rd party!

If the 'pubs steal the nomination for the likes of Jeb or Kasich, and hillary is handed the Dem nod, I'd think a third-party Trump candidacy would resonate.

He could really mess with heads if he ran as a Democrat. I think it's too late for that per election rules, but LOL! He would beat both Hillary and Bernie to the nomination, then beat any one of the Republicans presently running.

People who question his conservative bona fides should recognize his naked candor -- he had to come out of the closet (doing business in a blue city in a blue state) to run as a Republican.

That Tweet is fake. Trump very publicly and vocally supported Mitt Romney in 2012. Maybe you missed too how he was the leading figure in the so-called "birther" movement against Obama. Don't be fooled by decent (but simple) photoshopping.

If he made a pledge, he should honor it. Nobody forced him to make it, and “They were unfair to me” (wow, politics) is no justification for breaking his word.

A deal is a whole different animal; it takes two to keep a deal. But was there a deal?

If Cruz wins Iowa, it will quickly become a two man race everywhere. I doubt Cruz wins New Hampshire but I expect him to pull ahead of Trump throughout the South. Then I expect Trump to crash his own campaign since he seems to lose it when he faces any serious threat to his winning the election.

Apparently centralized political “Parties” are a problem. Once they are organized and centralized, their top concern becomes their own self-perpetuation rather than the good of America. That is why the Tea Party was so smart to refuse central organization.

Could Trump win as an “Independent/Tea Party” candidate?

“Calling the gop a “bucket of quislings” is an insult to the memory of vidkun quisling. At least vidkun quisling could be argued to have had some love for his country. That cannot be plausibly argued when it comes to the gop.:”

You are right on that as I think about it. Quisling did think that affiliation with the Third Reich would be a benefit to Norway. The restroom Romeos and hyphenated conservatives in the GOP are just self interested grifters.

I stand corrected.

He’s saying “play dirty and I’ll make you regret it.”

Actually, it sounds more like, “fail to nominate me and I’ll make you regret it.”

Sigh. I know what Kabuki theater is. I was asking what that stupid Washintonian expression meant because I didn’t know how a theater art form came into it. Others have explained it here. I’m allergic to Washington expressions. So repetitious and inept compared to, let’s say, Wall Street slang.

Ah the old “hold your opponent to higher standards than you hold yourself” argument. Classic.

It would be nice if the GOPe considered their country first, and not their investment portfolios. I feel they fear being exposed more than anything else if Trump gets the Presidency. That goes triple for the Dems.

The South is going to go with Trump. Cruz has a chance in Iowa and Texas. I would imagine that’s about it. He’s polling in most states at about 7-8.5%. Catching Trump is a long shot. I expect it to continue as a 3 man race with Trump in the lead and Rubio and Cruz behind him and out of the MOE.

It will tighten as others drop out but lets just say that on election eve in FL Trump is only 3 pts ahead of Cruz. Who will win? Trump of course and that’s how its going to go. Or it might be Trump ahead of Rubio by 3 pts and ahead of Cruz by 4 pts. Same deal. He does not have to maintain a 20 pt lead.

I’m not holding Trump to a different standard than I would hold myself, or any politician, or - if it comes to it - any human on earth. I believe that all people, regardless of who they are or who their opponents are, ought to keep their word. I believe that it is wrong to make pledges when they are convenient and then break them when they are inconvenient.

And I’m not making an exception for Donald Trump.

And Obama gave us Kagan and Sotomayor, and Hillary will do the same when replacement times for RBG, Thomas and Scalia come. Apparently you’re good with that.. I’m not.
