Trump was responding to a Wall Street Journal report that Republican operatives are considering banding together donors from the other GOP campaigns in a bid to knock Trump off the top spot.

Their efforts are taking on increased urgency as the first-in-the-nation Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses near and Trump leads the crowded GOP field for the fourth consecutive month, according to a new national Washington Post-ABC News poll. Some candidates, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida governor Jeb Bush, also are showing more willingness lately to directly attack Trump.

3. If Trump wins say 80% of the primaries, and continues to be ahead in the polls by 5-10 points, don't they Have to give him the nomination at the Republican Convention? If the above scenario occurs and he doesn't get the nomination, then what?

The rigging of the delegate game begins after that and arms get broken and rules "adjusted&" at state conventions. We must be at our state conventions, so put a couple of night's stay back in the piggy bank.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that. Like I said, I'm naive about the inner workings of this. Any FReepers that know more about the process can inform the rest of us.

So the state conventions are that important, even if say, Trump is way ahead on paper, they can still "rig" the system for say, a Jeb? What a mess. .

So we should all go to the state conventions? Do you have to be a 'state delegate' to even get in? Again, do not know the process and I would guess most Americans don't. No excuse, just stating a probability. Any ways we can have a voice in the state conventions will be highly appreciated.

"Why doesn't he simply come out and say, 'if you don't nominate me, I'm going to go 3rd party and hand the election to Hillary Clinton'? Why the back-and-forth kabuki dance?"

He calls it "leverage" which I define as "blackmail" on his part - as in, "You better be nice (his definition of nice) to me or I will pout, call you stupid, and run third party to show you how I can hurt you." I absolutely believe he would/will do this if the party doesn't do exactly as he wishes. One trivial statement of someone in the party can tick him off and he will yell, "That's not fair!", and he goes third party. One never knows when he is going to explode.

As I have watched his behavior, I don't think he is emotionally fit to be president. He also rambles and repeats sentences all the time. He has been all over the wall with his Syrian refugee lists/lists of all US Muslims/no lists of US Muslims/databanks/shut down some mosques/shut them all down/surveillance of mosques. According to the day, you don't know what he is for or against that day.

I listen to his speeches, read his speeches, every single day because he is an enigma. I study his behavior and know I do not want this person as president.

If he becomes the candidate, I will vote for him as Hillary will finish destroying the country.

I will vote for Trump or Cruz even if I have to write their names in.

There’s simply no others that come close to my brand of conservatism.

If they should succeed in taking out Trump, there will be no Cruz.

Maybe in your Trump-centric world.

As I said, if Cruz is the nominee, then Trump should not run third party.

“And Cruz doesn’t get out of the South, or passed South Carolina, nope, not in this secular day,...”

I love you, but wait until after the voting in Iowa, then let’s compare notes, then New Hampshire and we compare, then South Carolina, and we compare then. I think Cruz will do much better than you think. :o)

<<< “....if Cruz is the nominee, then Trump should not run third party. “ >>>>

Why not?

This is the same old play book, version 8.0. And, on rubes, it works every time it’s played. And why would the egalitarians change it for you and Cruz?? I am mystified.

If they can succeed at taking out Trump, what makes you think Cruz to them is anything but cake? Rubio is even a prop, but Cruz? Absolutely not. Cruz can not make it past the South, imho.

We are rubes to think the COMPLEX ever lets Cruz out of the South, especially if they should succeed in taking TRUMP out, who is beholden to none of them.

It was always Yeb or Hillary with these globalists. Surely you know this. Trump has just triumphed and over performed, so they are coming out in the open against him, using his opponents donor money to stick it to him, under the table, hidden in an LLC with no name donors.

If they can not resurrect Yeb, they will go with Hillary.

You’re getting worked over and blinded by the stardust in your eyes. Again, they give us the enema.

On the night of your state PRIMARY vote, on PRIMARY NIGHT, you go to your little PRECINCT meeting, RIGHT after the polls close at 7:00 PM.

(Usually there is a sign on the door, when you day vote, saying where, and when, your precinct meeting is held, on that very same evening of the vote.)

At the PRECINCT meeting you will volunteer to go to your COUNTY convention, scheduled for a certain upcoming date, and you go there, as a delegate from your little precinct.

At the COUNTY convention, you volunteer to go to your STATE CONVENTION, as a delegate from your district.

At the STATE convention you and your other county delegates will be divided and some of you will represent TRump, or Cruz, or Rubio, etc.

At the STATE convention you come as a district delegate, from different counties, AND as delegates for different candidates.

At the STATE convention is also where your state platform is designed and recommendations are voted on, to send up to the NATIONAL convention.

At STATE, you will hear persuasive arguments to support another candidate, and you will switch your vote, or you will stick to represent those who sent you there for your candidate X.

YOU are a delegate right up to the last minute, depending on your state rules, and can change or stick with your candidate.

At STATE, you can volunteer to be a STATE delegate or an “alternate” delegate to go to the NATIONAL CONVENTION in wherever.. be it Philadelphia or Denver, etc. You pay for room and board and air, and transportation, everything, but get a nice room rate in a nice hotel.

Marcella, this little version is for TEXAS, an open primary state. Can you add anything, for Idaho being much different in precinct, county, state or national convention process?

My understanding is that it would be next to impossible to get on the ballot (at this point) in all 50 states.

Idaho:
The link below gives all the deadline dates for filing for office and various other deadline dates for the presidential primary election. Appears primary voting date is March 8.

http://www.sos.idaho.gov/elect/2016Calendar.html

The link below (pdf file) is the Idaho Republican Party rules which sets out how delegates are selected to go to the county convention and the state convention.

http://cdn.instabuildsites.com/uploads/509963b96b16101509000000/538cf87c452f8.pdf

Anyone can go to their Secretary of State, elections division website and find all the election dates. The same is true for anyone to go to their State Republican Party and read the party rules that govern how the party runs itself in that state.

They [the nominees of 2008 and 2012] got it because they won the voters of the primary.

Exactly. And if Trump fails to become the nominee this time, it will not be because some evil, shadowy "GOPe" cheated him out of it. It will be because enough Republican primary voters decided someone else would be a better candidate for President.

And of course if then Trump decides to run anyway, he will be Perot 2.0, handing the election to a Clinton.

I think the nominee will be either Cruz or Rubio. I'm hoping for Cruz, and I plan to vote for him on March 15 in Missouri's primary.

Grow up, Trump doesn’t need to run third party. He has a life.

That said, he can let you run your loser GOP candidate and live with it when you lose. No skin off his back.

You speak truth. He won't care about losing to Hillary or to splitting the vote and letting her win that way ... because he's a Democrat. You are right!

So he basically lied about NOT going 3rd party? Big surprise.

Yah but it was a good lie and he still gets my vote...
