Ben Carson's remarks on foreign policy have repeatedly raised questions about his grasp of the subject, but never more seriously than in the past week, when he wrongly asserted that China had intervened militarily in Syria and then failed, on national television, to name the countries he would call on to form a coalition to fight the Islamic State.
Faced with increasing scrutiny about whether Mr. Carson - who leads in some Republican presidential polls - was capable of leading American foreign policy, two of his top advisers said in interviews with The New York Times that he had struggled to master the intricacies of the Middle East and national security and that intense tutoring was having little effect.
"Nobody has been able to sit down with him and have him get one iota of intelligent information about the Middle East," Duane R. Clarridge, a top adviser to Mr. Carson on terrorism and national security, said in an interview. He also said Mr. Carson needed weekly conference calls briefing him on foreign policy so "we can make him smart."

“Carson slammed by his own top advisor Duane R. Clarridge? Weird.”
Guess Dr. Clarridge cares more about the future of the United States than doing favors for Ben Carson.
It would be irresponsible to vote for someone so patently unfit for the White House. I don’t understand how any conservatives can even consider it.
“After the election, Sarah Palin’s debate prep advisors ran to the NYT and called her an idiot.”
Yeah, except those weren’t Sarah’s advisors, they were *McCain’s*. Big difference.
This is Carson’s own man. Carson is head of the campaign and has total control. If his own people are so out of line, then it’s another sign he’s unfit for the office.
Got that right. I still can’t figure out why anyone would support him after all his gaffs, his statements etc.
It is not weird at all for political consultants to slam their own candidates. He’s smelling a losing candidate and does not want the blame coming at him.
Like I’ve said, Carson is smart in neurosurgery. But because of that profession, he is not on top of life in general. He had no time to follow religion, politics and society beyond neurosurgery.
It does not mean he’s stupid...it means he is uninformed and he can’t catch up in an election race with all he’s missed. Let him go with his dignity in tact.
“Struggling to grasp foreign policy?”
Shoot, he seems to be struggling to stay awake!
Another hit piece from the New York Slimes.
Ben Carson is word salad on foreign policy and is unqualified to be President. Just like another psuedo-conservative named Trump.
Some of us have said this from the beginning.
I read it on another site, report sourced by the Washington Post. Maybe it will be buried during the Paris coverage and the governor’s resistance, but it will pop up again. The media will use it against him.
Yes, the Carson campaign is already dismissing this “advisor” source, as elderly and not a “top”
advisor.
“Obama knows EXACTLY what he has been doing for the past 7 years. All of the chaos and evil is by design.”
I totally agree. If he was stupid, he should get 50% right, but he’s always on the wrong side. His game plan is to destroy our culture and substitute the Islamic culture based on a caliphate and Sharia law.
Ben Carson says the Terri Schiavo case was ‘much ado about nothing’
I saw this posted yesterday. I was quite shocked at his arrogance and callousness.
The Sunday Fox News interview was a display of his lack of knowledge on foreign policy.
Yes, Thanks. I found it on Free Republic and went to the source and read it. Mannatech snake oil salesmen to cancer patients was not an aberration for Dr. Carson. He is callous and arrogant.
Right on, McGruff. Peace.
