The next question is from Bill. He wanted to know if it was true that I was offered a slot at West Point after high school.
Bill, that is true. I was the highest student ROTC member in Detroit and was thrilled to get an offer from West Point. But I knew medicine is what I wanted to do. So I applied to only one school. (it was all the money I had). I applied to Yale and thank God they accepted me. I often wonder what might have happened had they said no.

What is BS about it? You are reading way too much in to it. He never said he had an appointment. He probably has no idea what the actual application process entails since he didnt want to apply in the first place.
Gen. Westmoreland made a casual offer to send him to West Point. It went no farther than that.
Me too. I think it's funny that folks are glomming on to the fact he called it a 'scholarship'. What else would a kid that had no interest in getting into an academy up to that point call it? That's what going to school for free is called :-) Well, today it's called Obama-Money
“Carson did not write in Gifted Hands that he was accepted to West Point.”
Thanks for pointing that out. My fault for assuming Politico wouldn’t make up a quote from a best selling book.
Totally feasible that Carson was told he could get a full scholarship by the General or the Medal of Honor recipients and interpreted that as a scholarship offer.
If he never claimed he applied and was accepted he should be fine and the Left Wing media will have more egg on its face.
Then you should read what Dr. Ben Carson said and not the headlines. A recruitment pitch to a HS student isn’t full of specifics but the end of the process is an an appointment to West point. You think the recruitment pitch is not going to say that an appointment would be the result. Any way Dr. Ben Carson didn’t apply and said so and the headline is a lie.
Carson says explicitly that he applied to only one school. (It wasn’t WP.)
It took me about 5 seconds to Google to the USMA website. You can apply from an ROTC program. If you are the top member of an ROTC program, and one of the top generals in the Army tells you you have an offer to go to West Point, why doubt it?
The only fabricating going on is from liberal hatchet men, and many here are too willing to take their own wacks.
I don't care which candidate you are supporting, their turn will come to be whittled down by the liberal media complex. And we wonder why we can't win the presidency after we help take out our own warriors.
It has in fact been shown that Westmoreland was indeed in Detroit at that time, so please stop posting this lie. Or are you with Politico?
“In Carson’s 1990 autobiography, ‘Gifted Hands,’ he wrote:
“Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point.” He added that despite turning the offer down, “As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn’t really tempted.”
When I first read this story I thought Carson was toast. But as more facts emerged I came to the realization the only one who may be damaged by this is Trump. Once again, he engaged his mouth before his brain.
Since this “story” broke, it has been shown that West Point DOES use the words “scholarship” in their recruiting literature. Further, it has been verified that General Westmoreland was in Detroit for a dinner with CMH winners, although it was later in the year. Politico tied the recounting of the parade and the dinner as one event. I suppose the use of the term, “later” could be construed either way. Kind of like what “is” is.
Lastly, look at the time. Here you have a smart, talented, African-American who is involved in Jr ROTC. Why WOULDN’T you want him to apply to West Point. He would be an affirmative action dream.
I don’t know the truth here. But, I think Dr. Carson has some explaining to do. Frankly, with his medical credentials why would he lie about something so trivial? He never stated he went to West Point, he’s always maintained he went to Yale (probably not on a non-resident visa). And growing up in Detroit in the sixties, most likely had to be some type of “bad ass” to survive.
I think Politico has done exactly what they intended. They got everyone on the Republican side all fired up about a non-story and quite possibly took out not only Carson, but Trump as well if the story turns out not to be true and Donald’s supporters drop him for trash-talking Carson.
We should probably let this story develop and see what transpires. Let’s STOP eating our own.
I’m also wondering about the facebook post. The timeline of an “offer” doesn’t make sense. Wouldn’t he have already applied to any school before the end of his senior year and wouldn’t he have told the General where he was going in any spring/summer dinner conversation? With that in mind, a recommendation from the General AFTER his high school graduation doesn’t seem likely. I would like to read the entire passage in his autobiography. Hopefully someone here can do some unbiased research.
The problem for Carson is that West Point says that they never made Carson an offer.
That is not a problem because he never applied. You fell for the MSM lies just like they knew you would
West Point has told media sources that they never offered Carson a slot there.
He said they made him an offer. West Point says they didn’t.
Carson also said that Mannatech funded his endowment chair at John’s Hopkins in one of his promotional videos for Mannatech. Later when Mannatech became a liability, he said he was confused about that.
I don’t trust him.
Granny Panties!
Stop your distortionist lies.
There is something wrong with you and your Carson hatred. You’ve lost any credibility and gone beyond any rationality.
“I would like to read the entire passage in his autobiography. Hopefully someone here can do some unbiased research.”
Your wish is my command:
In Carson’s 1990 autobiography, ‘Gifted Hands,’ he wrote: “Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point.” He added that despite turning the offer down, “As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn’t really tempted.”
