It has in fact been shown that Westmoreland was indeed in Detroit at that time, so please stop posting this lie. Or are you with Politico?
When I first read this story I thought Carson was toast. But as more facts emerged I came to the realization the only one who may be damaged by this is Trump. Once again, he engaged his mouth before his brain.
Since this “story” broke, it has been shown that West Point DOES use the words “scholarship” in their recruiting literature. Further, it has been verified that General Westmoreland was in Detroit for a dinner with CMH winners, although it was later in the year. Politico tied the recounting of the parade and the dinner as one event. I suppose the use of the term, “later” could be construed either way. Kind of like what “is” is.
Lastly, look at the time. Here you have a smart, talented, African-American who is involved in Jr ROTC. Why WOULDN’T you want him to apply to West Point. He would be an affirmative action dream.
I don’t know the truth here. But, I think Dr. Carson has some explaining to do. Frankly, with his medical credentials why would he lie about something so trivial? He never stated he went to West Point, he’s always maintained he went to Yale (probably not on a non-resident visa). And growing up in Detroit in the sixties, most likely had to be some type of “bad ass” to survive.
I think Politico has done exactly what they intended. They got everyone on the Republican side all fired up about a non-story and quite possibly took out not only Carson, but Trump as well if the story turns out not to be true and Donald’s supporters drop him for trash-talking Carson.
We should probably let this story develop and see what transpires. Let’s STOP eating our own.
