I’m also wondering about the facebook post. The timeline of an “offer” doesn’t make sense. Wouldn’t he have already applied to any school before the end of his senior year and wouldn’t he have told the General where he was going in any spring/summer dinner conversation? With that in mind, a recommendation from the General AFTER his high school graduation doesn’t seem likely. I would like to read the entire passage in his autobiography. Hopefully someone here can do some unbiased research.

Your wish is my command:
In Carson’s 1990 autobiography, ‘Gifted Hands,’ he wrote: “Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point.” He added that despite turning the offer down, “As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn’t really tempted.”
