Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.
Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lions share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?
He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."
Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

OK, desperation is a bit strong word, but what do you call it when time is getting short to take action?
But who is that message going to appeal to??? You think that will bump him up in the Iowa polls???
The only way Cruz is going to get a one-up on Trump is to try to force him out...It's going to get ugly between Cruz and Trump...
ALL-AMERICAN-—inside and out.
Trump has become the most trusted man in America.
Media non-story. All Cruz is saying is “I’m gonna win”, the same thing every candidate is saying.
No.....but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a side play at the last minute. Possibly to pass it off to Cruz or Carlson. Talk to me again next November. We’ll see what happens ......
I agree.
You need to run for office! That would be an excellent response. Santorum pretty much says that every time they want him to denigrate other repub candidates. Of course, he had his chance in 2012, he and Newt should have made a deal and one of them should have dropped out after Florida. Romney won by dividing the voters.
Sorry, I don’t think you intended your post for me. I have not talked badly about any candidate.
Not contempt. I liked Walker too, but Cruz won’t win the nom and just needs to stop trashing Trump who actually has a good chance.
What I think you don't understand is how one gets an actual vote from a voter. Remember this as it is true, “All elections are local.” What does that mean? It means, elections are held in counties, like in the county where you live. What happens in a county determines who actually gets the votes.
Also remember in order to become the party nominee for president, he/she must garner the majority of the delegates at the national convention. For 2016, it requires a simple majority of 1,236 delegates out of a total 2,370 to become the partys nominee. Each state has a predetermined number of delegates and the primary results in that state determines how many delegates the candidate gets gong into the convention from that state.
See, it is not how many TV appearances you have (although that is good) or how many people show up at a gathering (although that is good) that determines the winner. It is more complicated than that. The winner is selected county by county in every state and those numbers add up to the total state number and that determines the number of delegates a candidate gets.
A great candidate wont necessarily win in the counties. A great candidate with great organization in every county, therefore, is much more likely to win.
Cruz has plenty of money to cover having workers in every county in every state. At this time, here is a statement from him:
Ive always known we would have a great organization, but having a leader in the 171 counties that comprise the four early states is an incredible achievement.
Also, the campaign is also well-organized beyond the early states, having named more than 500 state team leaders in 19 states and one territory to date.
I read today that Ben Carson has a good organization of workers, at least in Iowa and I dont know how many other states he has organized.
I have been a Repub since 1951, with a one season independent status. I sent Reagan lots if money to encourage him to run. If someone likes me recognizes the problems of this country which have been caused by the uniparty and which are basic needs of a conservative thriving country, eg labor problem, maybe you need to rethink what it means to be a consevative
Go Trump, Go!
Allen West is already assigned, See Undersecretary of War - Army Branch.
Both Homeland Security and Energy - ELIMINATED, but with a couple of their legitimate functions moved to remaining Departments.
Sign me up for Sarah Palin, ABSOLUTELY
LOL, spoken by a low-information celebrity worshipper who thinks Trump is a good candidate because he's tall.
Needs to stop trashing Trump?
What dreamworld do you live in where one candidate saying the other won’t win is “trashing?”
I have a wake-up call for you. Cruz does not exist to kiss Donald Trump’s rear. He is in this to win, and it’s best you come to the realization that he isn’t Trump’s lapdog.
You Trump supporters like to talk about what a tough alpha male your hero is, but apparently you think he can’t stand any criticism at all.
You know the old saying about politics and beanbag. Man up.
You are injecting so much reason and fact into the midst of roiling, unbridled emotion.
“Hes raising lots of money and keeping a low profile. But that isnt a good long-term plan.”
He isn’t keeping a low profile in the individual counties and that’s where the votes come from. His money allows him to have a presence in every county and more state counties are being added day by day. He’s also traveling from area to area and talking directly to voters. You will see the results of his planning when the Iowa caucuses happen followed by the two early primary voter states.
Cruz used the phrase, “Make America Great Again” in his election for Senator. Later, Trump called Cruz and asked if he could have that slogan and Cruz agreed to let him have it.
You really have your information wrong on Cruz every time you post - I wonder why that is. Cruz had dual citizenship - he was a natural born American citizen at the time of his birth and could have Canadian citizenship as well if he wanted it. He renounced any connection to Canada some time ago, to make it absolutely clear his only allegiance to a country was where his chosen natural born citizenship is, the United States of America.
Cruz is at the end of the pack. Sorry if that upsets you, but facts are facts. He is *not* going to win. I just think it’s unwise for someone at the back of the squad to be telling the front running they won’t win.
