Kevin McCarthy’s implosion signals a full-blown Republican revolution

McCarthy's demise comes hard on the heels of Boehner bowing out of the speakership as a sort of human sacrifice to the tea party right. And it happens as Donald Trump is in the midst of his fourth consecutive month as the Republican front-runner for the party's presidential nomination -- and with Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, two other people who have never held elected office before, running in second and third place, respectively.

The Boehner Mini Me was toppled by the conservative revolt. The GOP establishment is on the run.

Mitch McConman - you’re next in the cross-hairs!

There aren’t two political parties in Congress. There are three.
There's the Uniparty and the Tea Party. That's the reality.

Actually there is a Socialist Nutjob Party in the process of splitting away from the left side of the Uniparty. So that makes three.

That's a remarkable development since, for decades, the GOP was known as the party that, eventually, got in line.

If there's anything I'm more sick of, other than the man who calls himself 0bama, are members of the so-called opposition party who, whenever the Dems announce support for some government-growing, constitution-undermining or family-destroying initiative, scurry frantically to the microphones to scream "Me too, Me too!" That's the party that's dying now, and good riddance to it. It's well past time for the ghost of Barry Goldwater to open up a BIG can of WhoopA$$ and start applying it liberally and frequently.

Something is odd. McCarthy went into that caucus meeting at 8 AM (EST) all about full steam ahead. Later, before the actual morning vote, he backs out! What happened in two hours?

I didn't realize the time-line. And now, I know there is nothing weird about it.

Boehner thought he could "appoint" McCarthy as his heir apparent, and fall on his sword.

McCarthy thought he was going to be Speaker. And when he went into the caucus meeting, he found out he didn't have the votes.

McCarthy withdrew, and Boehner postponed the vote until they could find another GOPe to "assume the position". They couldn't risk letting a real conservative become Speaker of the House.

No, the GOPe will keep Boehner if they don't get their candidate. Boehner is still the Speaker. Unless a new one is chosen, Boehner will remain.

IMO Boehner saw that McCarthy was never going to get the votes, so they pulled this scam of McCarthy withdrawing and Boehner being the only one to "replace" him. The GOPe will prevent anyone else from getting 218 votes.

Boehner says he’ll stay until replacement is chosen

am I the only one that thinks that all of this is happening because of Donald Trump?

Nope but if you want to remain flame free you must assign the credit to Cruz. The smartest man in the race who just isn't likable to the voter.

Trump is a fumble mouth blowhard but I believe he loves his country and sincerely believes he can fix it. Well guess what, so do I.

The fact that he’s talking about it and obviously thinking about is what we need to know. I prefer Dave Brat but as Newt is a Virginian as well, I would have to support him. Home team y’know.

Nute brilliant on Hannity, he would be very aggressive if the new speaker. Picking fights that unite the GOP and divide the Democrats. He would wage a war on Obama and make him realize the limits of the Presidency.

Hannity asked Newt if he would run for Speaker? Newt said : "This requires serious thought. . this is a serious sobering time in American History. . If the house conference wanted me to be helpful, I would always be available as a citizen to be helpful. . you show up with 218 votes, I'll talk with you. . I just heard about this 10 minutes ago. . the new speaker will have to very aggressive with the media. . the new speaker has to fight. . executive amnesty, I would cut off the money. . people don't understand what closing the government means. . you have to have a willingness to tell the President what you are doing is unconstitutional. . I would cut off funding. ."

I couldn't help thinking, he sounds like Trump. . a Fighter! . . You could get the feeling Newt was thinking a million miles an hour. Can you imagine what's going through his mind now? This is a possibility!

Draft Newt!

I dunno. McCarthy had to know the numbers were not there.

He can count. All the Dem votes would go for Pelosi, and the conservative Freedom Caucus were reportedly for Daniel Webster. That’s 45 votes. The difference would go to McCarthy and it didn’t get him to 218, but it got him to supposedly 210, and he had weeks to go to raise the rest of the votes to get to 218.

Hugh Hewitt is reporting on msnbc that Paul Hoskins of Indiana, I believe, is in the running and he has run the Indiana state house, so he does have experience. Rumors of a coalition election are abounding, because of course, the House of Representatives is divided now between conservatives who win elections and the moderates who are the majority of House members.

Conservatives just want someone that will promise them a seat at the table, rather than the top down approach in smokey back rooms, and since they haven’t the numbers to elect one of their own as Speaker of the House.

The end result will be 400 Democrats and 38 Tea Party

Like it hasn't already been that way? Got to start somewhere and I say thank God for the 38. Now it's time to primary some of the entrenched Senators that pretend to be something other than Democrats. Starting with majority leader Mumbles.
