Newly released emails show Russia-linked hackers tried at least five times to pry into Hillary Rodham Clinton's private email account while she was secretary of state. It is unclear if she clicked on any attachment and exposed her account.
Clinton received the infected emails, disguised as speeding tickets, over four hours early the morning of Aug. 3, 2011.

Clinton received the infected emails, disguised as speeding tickets, over four hours early the morning of Aug. 3, 2011. The fact that she received those emails means little. We all receive such emails (unless we use good email security software, like the one I have at work.)
You begin to worry when hackers STOP hacking into your system. It means that they are already in.

Yeah this is kid stuff.
What was probably a big security hole is how often that server (and the software on it was updated). Especially with a server in a home, it’s likely it was not patched very often, even with regular Windows updates (since those require a restart and Windows servers don’t restart automatically).
So any hacker worth his salt could probably use any number of vulnerabilities even a few months old to compromise that kind of system.
To: Boogieman
The server kernel is designed to require fewer reboots, actually, and the default is to auto patch and perform shutdown/restart on low-activity but that doesn't change the point, which is that there are so many reasons -- not the least of which are un-patched vulnerabilities -- that you don't do this kind of thing at your own expense if government security people are ready, willing, and able, to do it
for free.
From an IT perspective, there is one -- and literally ONLY one -- reason why you would do this, and that is so that you would be able to hide your virtual paper trail. That's it. There is no other advantage to doing it. It's like sanding off your own fingerprints.

Right, as soon as I heard she was using not just a private email, but a private server, in her HOME, it was obvious what the reason was. There is no other logical reason for doing that except that you want total control over the records, in case of investigations or legal troubles.

I don’t know if that’s how they knew... but they did seem to know...

Hillary would never open an e mail for a speeding ticket, because she would never pay it. Moreover, she has't actually driven a car sine 1992.

Hackers from China and or Russia penetrated the pentagon and OPM and their is even a question as to their ability to gain access to a half witted email server found in the closet of a bathroom?
What a stupid assertion of doubt on this gubbamints part. I'm so pissed that our own leaders would insult our intelligence like this.
To: kristinn
Idiot hackers. Don’t they read the news? She has not driven a car in over 20 years. If they wanted her to open an attachment, they should have offered a free subscription to a lesbian dating site.

It is totally irrelevant whether or not she clicked on the infected emails. The mere fact that they made it to her mailbox proves the email system was unsecured. Any halfway decent email filter would have caught it. And if 5 made it through that they know about, how many made it that they don't know about.

"The fact that she received those emails means little." In fact it means her server wasn't protected with a good email malware filter.

The hacking of Hillarys server is the CAUSE of the attack in Benghazi. The bad guys knew ALL of Ambassador Stevens security arrangement (or lack of), scheduling, times, dates, personnel..<<
Not quite! No hacking was necessary for the bad guys as their secret mission was to capture and hold the Ambassador hostage for exchange of Gitmo detainees...when the stand down order was ignored by security...the bad guys felt double-crossed and killed the ambassador....So....in order to fulfill the promised release of the Gitmo boys Sec of State had to find another “hostage”...Beau Bergdahl the Traitor...

“It is unclear if she clicked on any attachment and exposed her account.”
Everyone with a computer has experienced this.
