A Morning Consult poll, released Friday, surveyed 504 registered voters who watched Wednesdays Republican primary debate and has only good news for Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina. While the polls sample size is small (with a 4.4% margin of error), the polls trend is worth noting.
In this same poll, prior to Wednesday nights debate, Trump sat at 33% support. Dr. Ben Carson sat in second place with 17% support. Today Trump enjoys 36% support. Carson is still in second place but with just 12% support.
Trumps lead increased from +16 points to +24%. Thats an +8% jump.
With their shared status as outsiders, it appears as though Carsons support went to Fiorina. Prior to the debate the former-Hewlett Packard CEO had just 3% support. She now sits in third place with 10%, only -2 points behind second place Carson.

In Alabama we have closed primaries. So it certainly is not wide open everywhere .. thus wide open polls are not close to reality.
I saw a thread posted here a day or two before the debate, wherein Rush Limbaugh had indicated on his daily show that the “get rid of trump” baton was being passed to Fiorina SPECIFICALLY... the implication was an inside source had leaked the intent to RUSH.
Another very plausible rumor that was floating around was that she was coached on the questions, which would explain why she could blurt out, almost before a typical person who had to think a second or two before offering an answer to what would otherwise be a military question.
Makes sense, if one knows what questions might be asked, one COULD put together a sharp tongued answer, before they even reached the stage. I think that is the occams razor explanation for any glint of excellence in her performance last night... and I also believe that RUSH has passed that data he has on to political operatives of the more independent contenders for the nomination.
When a student does significantly better on a test than should be expected... the first suspicion a teacher has... is that they MIGHT have had a cheat sheet or known the questions and answers in advance.
I believe any “good” performance people credit her with, is likely due to the GOPe slipping her a list of questions... in advance.
Anyone who knows what has happened should expose it... if there was any foul play.
I’ve learned to either walk away if posters appears sober or hit abuse button if they are drunk or purposely causing friction
I would have sworn that the AL primaries are open? When were they closed?
What is particularly interesting is Alabama. Alabama is an open primary state. Anyone (democrat, republican or independent) can vote in the republican primary. In addition, if there is a runoff in the republican primary, a voter who voted in the democrat primary is allowed to vote in the republican runoff. You may want to revise your statement.
Look it up. And if you were aware, you would know that one of the issues that rub conservatives the wrong way, is the insistence of the GOP establishment to keep the primaries open. The conservatives have begged for decades to close the primaries to only republicans.
There was an attempt in Michigan (open state) this past legislative session to close the primary to only republican voters and it failed to pass.
New Hampshire is an open state. That one state has had more influence than Iowa has ever had in determining the eventual nominee and registered independents can vote in the republican primary. It has driven conservatives crazy since so many independents are refugees from Massachusetts and tend to be more liberal.
You need to broaden your understanding of the issues. My original statement stands.
No, they are closed. The poster has no clue.
I meant Alabama’s primaries are open in the worst way.
if primaries are open in almost half the states then that means they are closed in half the states. That means a poll of registered voters that doesn’t take this into account is way off. Perhaps they take this into account — I have no idea. My original comment was that the article simply said “registered voters”.
Well, I don’t intend to be mean, but you tend to be a bit clueless. You didn’t even know your own state has an open primary and it has been a festering issue for years. And you feel qualified to interpret a poll that you know nothing about?
So if 50% of the primaries are closed (assuming you are correct) then an open poll of just registered voters is not accurate and democrats are affecting these poll results.
Drop it. You are ill informed.
I don’t think so. Much of the info came from you and you seem to be quite uptospeed on this stuff. Have a nice evening and unwind a bit
I think I understood that, rofl.
Your embarrassment threshold is embarrassingly low. Your original comment is incorrect. That’s all there is to it.
Whew, Dave...I don’t think I deserved that.
I believe any good performance people credit her with, is likely due to the GOPe slipping her a list of questions... in advance.................................................. Basically what I said to my wife about Fiorina AND Rubio. They sounded like well rehearsed speeches.
Liars, devoid of character HUH take a sit down.
There is more to being socially conservative than this and has she ever said she is against killing babies, NO. Has she said anything about defunding planned parenthood, well not in that speech she gave. Has she said she would overturn the homo crap this turd has done, no she hasn’t , but then again some people yes like you seeing as you want to attack me in the first place just sit there and think every word is gospel and then are surprised to find out it wasn;t.
You missed the biggie. His handling of ISIS!
Sunk him in the debate.
Is this serious, or The Onion? I have followed FreeRepublic for a long time, and always thought posters were informed conservatives. And now people here are for Trump? Is this for real? Yeah, it’s true that he is talking tough on immigration, but he says we will deport them all and then let the good ones come back. What kind of crazy talk is that? Trump is all over the map, talking nonsense on many issues. (Occasionally he has a good line on one topic or another, but he mostly displays his lack of principle and ignorance on various major issues.)
