NYT/CBS Poll: Carson, Trump in Statistical Dead Heat
Newsmax ^ | september 15, 2015 | Cathy Burke

Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson has pulled to within 4 points of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

In the New York Times/CBS News survey released Tuesday, Trump maintains the lead of the presidential pack, with 27 percent support. But Carson is within striking distance, at 23 percent, which is within the margin of error, making it a statistical dead heat.Carson's rise compared with his polling at 6 percent support in the pre-Aug. 6 debate Times/CBS News survey; Trump was at 24 percent in that earlier poll, showing Carson's gains the most significant in that time frame, the poll shows.

Far behind the leaders were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, all tied for third place with 6 percent.

Bush's support, however, has plummeted from the 13 percent he got in the August Times/CBS News survey – while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker finished with just 2 percent, down from his previous 10 percent support.

The declines in support for Bush and Walker were the largest in the survey, the poll shows.

In other findings: Carson drew more support from college graduates than Trump, while men, evangelical voters and those without a college education were more likely to favor Trump. Carson is the only candidate to whom Trump would lose a theoretical head-to-head matchup.

The poll's release comes a day before the second Republican presidential debate in California, where Trump will retain center-stage, but Carson will be afforded a bigger spotlight.

Could be.

Man, I’ve spent my whole life trying to avoid that.

>> he’s against everything we believe in <<

Everything? Making an exaggeration like that does not advance your cause.

On the other hand, after hearing Carson interviewed on the radio the other day, it seems to me that the good doctor is terribly ill-prepared for the race, and he may not even know where he stands on some of the issues. His current “aw shucks” attitude is not going to serve him well for the long haul. I think that if he doesn’t get his act together soon, he’ll fade away after a few months.

I like Carson but other than a few good lines, he hasn’t given me a reason to believe he would be a good president.

I believe the two most important issues facing this nation right now are JOBS and IMMIGRATION. I am not a huge fan of Trump but he wins both those debates over Carson.

Oh, and let me add that I don't really approve of either man's plan. I prefer to get rid of all illegals. Period. No guest workers. But the only candidate who has suggested that, even in the abstract, is Walker. And I'd prefer him above any other candidate, except that his candidacy is a little moribund right now.

I don’t think he puts too much reliance in them, hence barrage of press conferences and stump speeches in large venues. He’s probably smart enough to know to hit the gas pedal and don’t let up.

Here is your answer re tariffs, with props to a freeper (Enlightened1) FAR more knowledgeable on the subject than I am:

Our Republic since its inception had tariffs in it all the way up until 1996.

Every president from George Washington up to Bill Clinton had tariffs. We were the leaders of the free world and became a Super Power.

So according to Edmund all the previous Presidents were all “Protectionist” and this was bad for the United States. In other words the United States was on the wrong path from 1787 to 1996. That’s why he calls people “protectionist”.

What is the opposite of the word protection? Here are some words for you.

Unprotected, exposed, threat, danger, insecurity, uncertainty, harm, injury, destruction, doubt and attack.

So wanting to protect the Untied States, from being unprotected, exposed, threat, danger, insecurity, uncertainty, harm, injury, destruction, doubt, attack, etc...., to be the leaders of the free world and the loan super power is a bad thing...... according to Edmund, the Clinton’s, the Bush’s and Obama.

Edmund likes to mention Reagan....
You do know that Reagan told Japan and European car companies they can avoid tariffs if you build your car plants here in the United States. Reagan used tariffs as advantage to bring jobs to the United States. Guess what Toyotta, BMW, etc... all came here.

So don’t let Edmund confuse you about Reagan’s position on this.
Free trade is only good IF everyone is playing by the same rules. Right now here are the facts.

1) The United States STILL PAYS TARIFFS while at the very same time China and Mexico do not. How is that fair?

2) China can manipulate currency with no type of punishment. How is that fair?

3) China, Mexico and the rest of the world are exempt from federal regulations while U.S. companies have to comply ONLY in the United States.

4) United States companies pay a higher capital gains in order to encourage them to leave the United States. That way we can import lower prices. How is that fair?

5) We import Engineers from China and India to replace American workers at lower cost. Google what Disney did recently to their I.T. department. The American workers had to train their foreign replacements , here in the United States for 1/3 the cost. While at the same time we export Engineer students from M.I.T., Georgia Tech, etc... to places like China and India.

6) In addition we now have open borders(never done before until this year, and allow illegal immigrants to welfare, free housing, free health care and free education. No other country in the world does this except us. This is being done in order to drive wages down.

This is what guys like Edmund, Obama, the Bush’s and the Clinton’s think is great for America.

If you are still not certain, then ask yourself this question?

Was the United States a stronger country with tariffs from 1945 to 1996 than without tariffs from 1997 to 2015?’

Ben Carson is lukewarm on abortion, pro-amnesty, and has been silent on the major issues facing traditional family values until he see which direction the wind is blowing.

Then why is Carson supporting Hillary’s immigration plan, and Trump supporting our immigration plan?

You can spout that stuff all day long. One simply question reveals the truth of it.

To make that comment of yours, you have to believe that Hillary agrees with Trump’s platform.

She doesn’t.

I don't have the same priority list, and a topic like "JOBS" affords more than one political approach that can be described as conservative.

I am not big on scorched earth campaigns against non-establishment conservatives. Whatever gripes people may have against Walker, it is ludicrous to call him establishment in the same way that John Ellis Bush is establishment. Cruz has also openly accused Senate leadership of lying on the Floor in the Senate. That is serious pushback, so he is not really exstablishment the way John Ellis Bush is. Carson has never sought political office, and has no familial connections, so he falls into that category as well.

So, out of the 16 candidates, there's a half dozen that I may not support, but wouldn't dream of attacking in a way to discredit them. One, because it wouldn't be honest. Two, because we need to stop punishing people who are willing to enetr the arena, even if they are imperfect. Three, we must save our fire for teh ROMNEYs and JOHN ELLIS BUSHES of teh world.

It does smell a bit of collusion for sure.

Trump see’s all of this I’m certain. He will use to his advantage like he does with the other spitwads they throw at him.

I agree with what you’re saying but I’m just sick and tired of the debates turning into Trump ambushes. That’s the only reason Huge Hewitt was picked, to ask Trump gotcha questions and hopefully get him to embarrass himself. The debate will start out by Hewitt asking Trump what’s wrong with Fiorina’s looks and the silliness and BS will start from there. No debate of the issues, just more BS from the moderators, picking and choosing who they want to try and knock out. By the way Ben Carson will not be asked any tough questions. His stance on immigration, foreign policy, stem cell research, etc. will be ignored. To call these staged events debates is ridiculous.

Carson supports Carson’s plan. Secure the border, all illegals must register within six months and be self-supporting. No govt benefits. Criminals have to leave. Immigrants have to keep a “pristine record.”

I happen to disagree. Through enforcement of e-verify, I would look for self-deportation and aim to get rid of all the illegals. Both trump and Carson are too liberal on this issue.

You’re just blowing smoke.

The Conservative position has always been to return the illegals to their home nations and then let them get in line and go through the process.

That is exactly what Trump is doing.

Carson’s plan is identical to Hillary’s plan.

You can reference it as “Carson being Carson” all you like, but the tenets are identical.

You did at least have it half right. Carson is too Liberal on this one.

Trump’s is the Conservative blueprint lock stock and barrel.

This is pretty obvious. It’s rather telling that you can’t admit it.
