Sabato: Trump 'Un-Nominatable'; Names First Tier

Donald Trump may be the current GOP front-runner, but it's "doubtful in the extreme" that he will become the eventual nominee, let alone president, University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato says.

"The Summer of Trump is unlikely to turn into a Year of Trump," Sabato, who heads the university's Center for Politics, writes in a "Crystal Ball" report released Thursday, in which he ranks the presidential candidates while putting Trump into a category of his own: "The Un-Nominatable Front-runner."

"Trump is an early season fling for many people, fun while it lasts but doomed to break up somewhere along the path to the nomination," Sabato said. And while Trump is still topping polls, Sabato believes there are some signs that his polling numbers "may have peaked," and pointed to statistics that show few people are really actually paying attention to the race.

The "real contenders" boil down to five candidates: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, said Sabato.

But Trump has proven to be a "stick of dynamite thrown into the presidential pond," Sabato said, and Trump's campaign will influence the race while the party pushes to court his supporters to back the eventual nominee, assuming Trump doesn't mount his own third-party run next year.

I’m not sure, but did Larry just make up a word: ‘nominatable’ ?
Let’s test it by using its opposite: ‘non-nominatable’?
Besides being a tongue twister like “I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit ...”, no, it’s not a word.

He’s playing fast and loose with the language.

How do the same experts who have announced Trump dead 3 times still have any credibility? Oh yeah, he is part of the District of Corruption.

Pray America is waking

If we didn't exactly know for certain, Trump's "campaign," such as it has been. has "separated the sheep from the goats."

I no longer look to many conservative pretenders for any cogent thoughts or opinions!

I don't want Trump - period but he will point out various accepted truths that need a complete turn around to get back to the good ole U.S.A. and I watch as those pretenders just about have cardiac arrest!

Of course, my guy Cruz has been stating these facts since March, when he entered the race but all of the MSM, including FNC, seem to have taken a vow of silence on anything Ted Cruz!

Trump, they want to carry off the stage, call derogatory names that demean only themselves but they just can't help repeating and featuring, to their incredulity but Trumps noticing such things as illegal aliens in this country for decades have been raping, murdering and committing all sorts of gang violence, while on the public dole as well as taking American jobs.

Cruz, stating the same, can't get arrested!!

Sabato is a democrat, as are 90% of Media people. Trump worries him the most.

“Sabato believes there are some signs that his polling numbers “may have peaked,” and pointed to statistics that show few people are really actually paying attention to the race.”

LOL, how many pundits and pollsters have fallen on that petard now? Sabato joins them in their ignorance of reality. Plus, just think how many more votes Trump will be getting when the viewing public DOES start paying attention to the race.

“Maybe the time is right for a viable third party.”

You don’t need one. You’ve got Trump, a third party who is lurking within the Republican party, lol. The best of both worlds.

Plus I must add, there are 50 plus “3rd Parties” already. Pick one.

Larry Sabato is making the mistake of not yet realizing there is already a new Trump out in the showrooms.

The Trump 2.2 big biz a/c was unveiled this week. Engineers loved, but sales thought it a bit too flashy. So today, after a good night sleep. we got delivery of Trump 2.3..
Quieter, softer, easier to take for even long rides, Trump 2.3 May be a long tine creating for years to come

Stock up on the popcorn and beer.

Don’t fret, Cruz has time and money. From all accounts, he is building up one of the most talented and formidable teams well beyond South Carolina...he has money for the long haul and has a long game vision. That’s not to say that Trump won’t further roll out, but Cruz is running a very smart campaign. Even the GOPe hacks acknowledge that Cruz is playing it smart. Cruz is the real deal....I would argue the only real deal.

I hope that Sabato is prepared to eat his words. What happens to "experts" when they are wrong? Nothing.

There is quite a drum roll of both Republicans and Democrats predicting (wishing, wanting) for Donald Trump to exit the race.

So far the Donald is my pick.

"Everyone's got an opinion, this guy is the 1st one I want to hear from about it."

Actually, ivory-tower liberal klutz Sabato is the LAST one I want to hear from about it.
