We’re running a primary where our object is to unify Republicans,” he said. “I don’t think it is beneficial to the party or the country for us to be bickering like a bunch of children.” -Ted Cruz

He's not playing the DNC Media's game of tearing down our candidates so the only one left is a squshy moderate that the jackass candidates can easily own in the general election. Too bad others didn't get the memo.

I am content for him to “Cruz” for awhile and let the fact that Trump is there and his presence is going to make it tough for all the GOPe candidates that entered in order to throw the race to Jeb or Rubio run out of funding and have to drop out.

Our conservative side always shoots themselves in the foot. Emotion instead of strategy.

It would be big for Cruz if Trump could deny Walker a big win in IA. Same for Jeb in NH and Rubio in FL. There’s no chance Cruz will win Iowa and NH, IMO. He needs some help to keep the race wide open until he gets to more favorable turf.

Conservatives need to play the long game since we may be headed to a brokered convention. So I think it’s best to think of primary season as a game of survivor. Finding allies and trying to survive as long as possible is the way to win.

The truth is, I want to know where Trump stands up or down. I will tell you that I trust Andrew Card about as much as I do Carl Rove.

Don’t you think there is at least some reason to question if a former top level Bush team player isn’t gaming this?

You don’t think there’s any possibility he still is loyal to the Bush brand?

“Didn’t you know, polls that are not positive for Trump are not to be trusted?”

I keep hearing comments like this but have not seen any Trump supporters say anything like this. Can you point to this supposed unreasonable Trump supporter?

If anything i have seen a lot of intentional? distortions about what Trump actually said and what his detractor’s say he said.

Ted Cruz: ‘Foolish’ for GOP to criticize Trump

He says that it is dangerous to dismiss a candidate with this type of drawing power.

By Katie Glueck

8/10/15 10:48 PM EDT

Updated 8/11/15 6:02 AM EDT

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday warned that the Republican presidential candidates who are slamming Donald Trump do so at their political peril.

Cruz’s remarks, which came during an interview with POLITICO as he swings through the South on a bus tour, are among the most detailed comments to date regarding his reluctance to criticize the real estate mogul, who is currently leading the polls in the GOP primary.

“I would … note that an awful lot of Republicans, including other Republican candidates, have gone out of their way to smack Donald Trump with a stick. Now I think that’s just foolish,” he said.

Asked why, Cruz paused and then replied, “Donald Trump had a rally in Phoenix, Ariz. [to which] between 10 and 20 thousand people came out. When you attack and vilify the people at that rally as crazies, it does nothing to help Republicans win in 2016. I’d like every single person at that rally to show up and vote in 2016, knock on doors with energy and passion, and turn this country around. If Washington politicians show contempt and condescension to those [voters,] that is a path to losing at the ballot box.”

And when asked whether he wants those voters to eventually support him, he replied, “It is my hope to earn the support of the supporters for every other candidate in 2016.”

Sorry to rain on your parade...

This is a poll based on ACTUAL phone calls versus internet polls.

On the snark scale, that rates a 2. Please try harder next time: we rely on TDS sufferers for comic relief.

Well, I'll make sure to try harder next time, then. Anything I can do to entertain the Freeper Trumpette BrigadeTM

I can't wait until he crashes and burns. It'll be like the ultimate hangover for the Freeper Trumpette Brigade--"what the f*ck did I do? What was I thinking? WHHHHYYYYYY??"

“i think it will take at least a kicking puppies story, but I could be wrong.”

TDS seems to be an emotional roller coaster. TDS sufferers get all their hopes up over some fringe issue or imagined slight, and then end up disappointed and depressed when DT sucks the air out of their sails. Or it turns out that no one really gives a damn about the issue in the first place.

Sad, really. But also hilarious to watch the cycle of ecstacy and disapoointment, usually all in a 24 hour newscycle.

I agree with your comments. I have the same thoughts. I also realize that we’ve got some pretty good people against us on this.

They want the more solid Cruz, and I’m not going to trash them for it.

I will admit some are Walker fans and fans of others. Most are decent folks just trying to do what is best for the Republic.

It is difficult to most of them as anything other than our allies most of the time.

I know this isn’t easy on them. I only hope Trump proves to be a decent sort after backing him.

“I agree with your comments. I have the same thoughts. I also realize that we’ve got some pretty good people against us on this.”

I’m sure some are acting on conscience and who believe there is some question as to the final result. Others are posting because it’s a paycheck.

Unfortunately there is a fundamental truth that is not discussed much at FR: we’re not going to get a candidate who is anywhere near as conservative as the average FReeper, and our opinions don’t matter worth a hill of beans to the puppetmasters in any case. Even if the elections process were free and fair, which it isn’t, FReepers are two standard deviations out from the mean when it comes to political views. The average or close to it is who gets elected. Worse, the candidates acceptable enough to end up on the general election ballot are invariably corrupt as hell to boot.

The choice for us as individuals is to play the game or don’t. As my tagline indicates I have zero intention of playing when it comes time to put a mark on the ballot. Ultimately, I expect the election will come down to jebito or some other clone versus piaps or some other leftist clone. At that point, the game is over for me. Moderate kleptocrst versus kleptocrat is not a choice.

But in the meantime I can enjoy the drama of an ouside candidate who is very much stirring the pot for now. And of course I can enjoy laughing at those who have their knickers perpetually in a wad.

I understand your point. And I do firmly believe some folks posting here are on a payroll.

Like you, I do not see a true Conservative coming out of this process as the nominee. Trump can survive, but our other most Conservative guys, I don’t think so.

The primaries are rigged to give us a Bush or the equivalent.

No thanks. I’ve played that game too many times, and gotten skunked.

I keep hearing comments like this but have not seen any Trump supporters say anything like this.

Do your own homework. You can start by looking at any thread referring to a poll that isn't positive for your liberal candidate.

Can you point to this supposed unreasonable Trump supporter?

Define unreasonable. I consider unreasonable any "conservative" who would support for the Republican nomination a lifelong liberal like Donald Trump.

If anything i have seen a lot of intentional? distortions about what Trump actually said and what his detractor’s say he said.

Nothing personal, but I have no interest in what you may or may not have seen.

Nothing personal. But you ASSuME a lot when say “your liberal candidate” I have only defended attacks on Trump.
Doesn’t make him my candidate.
BTW I have repeatedly said on various posts that Trump is a moderate Democrat at best.
But you have no interest in what i may or may not have seen.
So, good luck, and keep out the Bushes.
