Scalia: 'Why no ancient Greek gay marriages?'
World Net Daily ^ | 4/28/2015 | GARTH KANT

WASHINGTON – The most dramatic moment in a historic case before the U.S. Supreme Court on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage Tuesday morning came after the first attorney had wrapped up her argument. “Gay marriage is an abomination in the eyes of God,” suddenly screamed a protester in the courtroom. After continuing his protest, the man was escorted from the court room.

Justice Antonin Scalia quipped, “That was refreshing, actually,” causing loud laughter to ripple through the courtroom. Scalia’s approval of ancient wisdom echoed his previous referral to the ancient Greeks and Romans to argue against government sanctioning of same-sex marriage.

The justice noted the Greeks and Romans had no moral disapproval of homosexual relations, yet neither culture ever considered approving same-sex marriage. The implication was that those cultures must have found it would cause some sort of harm to society.

Scalia used the same example to indicate that modern state laws defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman were not motivated by dislike of, or discrimination against, gays. He asked attorney Mary Bonauto, who argued in favor of same-sex marriage, if it were true that homosexual relationships but not marriages were sanctioned by those cultures.

When she said yes, Scalia continued, “So their exclusion of same-sex marriage was not due to prejudice, right?” Adding, unless she considered Plato prejudiced...

BUT the SCOTUS ruled in Lawrence that these same deviant acts were permissible because they were expressions of homosexuality, ie, to keep them illegal was to deny homosexuals their right to “love”.

Scalia said at the time it would lead to this day and damn if it didn’t.

I don’t find that quality in 43 but yeah, his brother is a complete tool and his dad thought of himself to be some sort of patriarch.

Sr. should have built upon the success’ of Reagan and not thought so highly of himself, that he knew better than the rest of us.

He had everything going for him after putting a whooping on Sadaam and he basically threw the game out of his arrogance, pride and allowed himself to be careless in his words.

Jebbie is a just an arrogant ass, who has publicly admitted he doesn’t need us. His only goal is survive the primary and be the last man standing, not unlike Mutt Romney.

I am ashamed that I hadn’t thought of that...and we all should be. Can you imagine, if 50 million pro life Americans would talk about it in those terms....and would have done so for the last 20 years - how different the debate would be now?

Sometimes thumping the Bible is NOT the best way to uphold Biblical principles....Paul taught us that with the Athenians too....

The biblical account of the assault on Lot’s household doesn’t even hint of such a thing... and it wouldn’t fit. That wasn’t their fling.

This is a modern ill of a West gone decadent. It is a tale of a shell gone empty, then refilled with an abomination, under the stewardship of a government that is sadly incompetent to handle even “ordinary” marriage.

To have the USSC do the maximally perverse thing here might be a boon in disguise for the churches. They KNOW they now can’t count on Caesar to be even a nominal custodian of marital love and decency. They will look to God instead, Who was waiting all the while for that moment.

I agree. They didn’t want to marry the strangers, they wanted to rape them.

Memo to self: Never try to rape an angel.

I’m sure the Justices have many friends who are divorce attorneys who stand to benefit substantially from gay marriage. Perhaps they should recuse themselves.

There is both some archaeological evidence and a body of historicity to support the one-time existence of Sodom. Google it and you’ll see for yourself.

There’s also the fact that many places in the Bible that were once thought to be legend have been found in reality. Jericho was once thought to be legendary yet it is now accepted to be a real place. Given that Jericho was contemporary with Sodom it stands to reason that Sodom was also a real place. If it wasn’t then the people who were reading the Old Testament would’ve been asking the question, “What’s this phony story about Sodom?”

I’d say there’s a preponderance of evidence that would support Sodom being a real place. In much of the USA these days that’d be more than enough to get an indictment from a jury.

The Minoans were already pretty beat up by the time of the volcano. They had mainland invaders.

True, but in European languages, pédé or pidor or some other form of the word can mean “[male] homosexual.” Hence the confusion.

The harshest of God’s judgments shall surely, as always, fall: that we shall be forced to live with the consequences of our actions.

” But really who cares? It is the same thing by another name.”

To me marriage is in the eyes of god. A civil union is the legal piece. They are trying to coopt the church. That’s what this is about. It’s the agenda.

Inasmuch as the Government is already involved in "marriage" in who-knows how much of existing coda, having all of the established law overturned by 9 individuals in the Judiciary branch is FAR beyond the scope of what the Framers intended… The matter should be put back under the jurisdiction of the States; if one State wants to set its own rules through the respective Legislature, including recognizing the civil union status of parties from other States, that should be their purview.

Plus as has been noted already, the can of worms will be completely emptied in that the Institution won't be limited to just two people, where you'll see unrelenting efforts to legitimize polygamy, polyamory – not to mention other deviant lifestyle "desires".
