Biggest corporate lay-off in history is expected within days, with IBM believed to be scrapping 110,000 of its 430,000 workforce around the world
IBM is preparing to scrap 110,000 of its global 430,000 workforce in the biggest corporate cull in the computer giant's history, a report has revealed.
The company will make the job cuts this week under a plan known internally as 'project chrome', according to US technology blogger Robert Cringely on Forbes website.
IBM is in the process of layoffs, as disclosed in its latest earnings report last week but said the number of job losses was significantly fewer than had been claimed.

Unfortunately, I think that will not be true. The low information voters will always exist.

Once again, I read it in the foreign press first. You must have missed it in CNN and Forbes.

For all I know, maybe the guy taking the order was Scottish. Try the McHaggis. It's on the dollar menu this month!

The Lotus Notes/Domino division will somehow stay alive. Only because that's the most worthless POS product they have.

No matter what anyone thinks of Microsoft, EXCEL is fantastic.
Agreed. For a small office, Excel can be made to cover a great many functions provided you get into the VB programming. I used to do things for my office that made less computer savvy people think I was some kind of genius.

Looks like they’ll need all those foreign IT workers since there aren’t enough qualified American tech workers.

"In this era of crystal clear (usually) voice communications from nearly one end of the earth to the other, why just about every drive through intercom sounds like bad drive in movie audio?"Because, no matter where the drive-thru is, they're taking your order in Chicago.

Maybe if they’d spent available dough on R&D instead of stock repurchases and dividends?

Anyone want to venture a guess? Don't tell me you're still using Lotus 1-2-3?
I haven't had it installed on any of our computers for a dog's age now, but way back when we were first in business, I used a template in Lotus to design our invoices and proposal forms.
I became so attached to the look of that form, that I later rebuilt it in MS Word. I still use it to this day.

EXCEL is great but the real genius was VisiCalc ,, the basis for Excel and ALL the other spreadsheets.... IBM failed to patent/copyright it ,, “it was too obvious” to patent....
I had VisiCalc on 5.25”ers....
