Always wondered where the mystery meat came from. Be careful out there.
I don’t like eating at ANY fast food joint. But Panera is COMPLETELY off my list. I know two people who work there at night baking bread and they’re both filthy. I haven’t eaten at Panera since they started working there.
Oh dang, avoid Dunken Donuts donuts! I don’t know if that’s possible but I make really good chili and will now not eat Wendy’s.
I don’t disagree with anything on this list. Restaurants are pretty nasty, but fast food is just rank.
We say we only eat what we cook at home. Fine.
Now let's hear from the grocery store workers that have horror stories about fresh produce that isn't (ahem) so fresh.
Unless you grow it, harvest it, and prepare it yourself, you food is subject to all kinds of sabotage.

I wouldn’t pass up Wendy’s for this. Here’s what a former employee had to say about it:
“They absolutely do use the unsold burgers as chili meat.
“Because they make burgers to order, the patties sit on the grill, waiting for a customer to order a hamburger, and then they custom make it.
“But it can only sit on the grill for a certain number of minutes after it’s cooked (and I don’t remember how many) so if they don’t sell, they remove them from the grill and toss them in a container underneath the grill and those are ground up and used for the chili.
“I did not cook at Wendy’s, I just took orders, so I only know this from observation and wasn’t ever really told the exact rules. But this is what they did. I don’t know how long they sit under the grill before they are taken away or at what temperature they are stored. I would imagine they follow food safety guidelines. And really, as long as they do, it’s not all that bad of an idea - otherwise they’d either be throwing away a lot of meat, or, you’d have to wait for them to cook the burger all the way from raw every time you ordered one (except during peak rush hours) and that takes a lot longer than what people expect from fast food.
“Now as to if they just keep reusing the chili and adding more to it, that, I don’t know. I kind of doubt it because that is just ptomaine asking to happen. But I don’t know for sure. Carter was still in office at the time I worked there so I don’t remember every thing, but some stuff is crystal clear.”
(Another employee - who did cook there - said that they would put the patties in the freezer once the time was up under the lights, then cook the hamburgers again, right before making a fresh batch of chilli.)
And, honestly, that’s pretty close to how I make my chili. I pre-cook the hamburger in large batches and freeze it. Then I thaw out and cook up a portion when I’m ready to make the chili. It sounds gross, but it’s food.
The wife and I slip into town every Friday for dinner there’s two Mexican food places that really put out a spread. Mrs. Rose will keep the hot tortillas coming as long as your sitting there. You don’t order you just eat what she’s made that evening and it’s always good. Papa Chon’s has a larger menu but it’s all good. He makes the best Chile Relleno’s in the Permian basin. Put down one of they’re meals with a couple of Tecate’s and it’s nap time. The rest of the time it’s what comes off the ranch, venison, hog, quail, turkey and we have one cow processed a year. ur garden is about 2000 sq-ft and produces most everything we need except during the winter and that’s about the only time we shop for grocery’s. While I do like to go out and eat most of the time I’d rather prepare it my self.

ANYBODY on Reddit can answer this question. ANYBODY (including those with some really ugly agendas).
Did they verify the stories through actually talking to real, flesh-and-blood employees? Did they verify the stories through actually sending somebody in to even a small sample of the stores to see for themselves?
No. So they are basing their story upon Reddit.
Next, did they get (or even solicit) input from the companies?
No. So therefore the story is biased. Even if the allegations are true (which, again, I seriously question).
Back in the 80’s I knew a guy who worked for Cmpbell’s soup that said the workers would flick thir cigarette ashes into the soup vats. I didn’t eat Campbell’s soup for many years because of that. I heard they cleaned up their act and don’t let employees smoke cigarettes onsite anymore. I’m guessing they spit in them now....

It should be known that the cleanest kitchens I've ever seen were at Mcdonalds. There are very strict guidelines that must be followed and on a strict schedule to boot. And contrary to what you hear people saying, the food is on a very strict and short rotation as well (note my overuse of the word "strict". They are VERY strict about sanitation and food quality. You can be fired on the spot for breaking any of those rules even once). How long a pre-prepared burger can sit under the heat lamp is measured in minutes before it is scrapped. The only thing dirty in a McDonalds kitchen is the floor, and that is scrubbed every night and then once a week the whole dang kitchen is given a serious cleaning and sanitized.
Yes, prior to my professional career, I used to work there. I may hate the place, but what I saw was a far cry different than what this article explains. It seemed to me that in this rare example, corporate oversight was a good thing. I'm FAR more skeptical when eating and small chains and private owned places, those are the true nasty ones.
Of course, I'm sure this cannot be applied as a blanket rule, but at least I know one thing for sure... if you don't keep things up to standard at a Mcdonalds, they will pull it from the owner and that is something few owners would be willing to let go... it's far too profitable and the incentive to stay compliant is very high.
I worked in a 4 star hotel when I was young. It doesn’t matter if it is a 4 star or fast food, but the morals and cleanliness of the wait staff and chefs. You’d be just as surprised by what goes on in the expensive joints too.
If I’m not mistaken at that time, you at least had to get a health food permit. Not anymore, who knows what diseases the staff has. They are not tested.
Reddit user Envirometh, a former McDonald's employee said he'd steer clear of anything McCafe at McDonalds because staff aren't diligent about cleaning the 'horrifically dirty machines' with up to '5 plus inches' of crud.
I used to work in a baseball park concession stand. The short answer is not to order anything, but if you absolutely have to buy something, don't buy the hotdogs.
I used to work at Wendy's. The meat used in the chili, yeah that comes from the meat on the grill top that expires and dries up that's put in to a warming drawer until you have enough for a batch of chili, which we first freeze and then thaw the next day. Also if the chili sitting in the warmer doesn't sell fast enough we just added hot water to it to mix it up,' wrote the former employee.

Sounds like a left wing smear to me.
Those of us with time on our hands should take up cooking if we are uncertain about the quality of our fast foods.
Cooking dishes at home like (Beavers) mom used to make is a satisfying hobby if you learn how to cook “real good”. One can save a little money and eat healthy, fresh, and balanced nutrition home cooked meals. (Gee whiz, Wally)
Or you can make your own versions of fast foods if you want. Lot’s of info on the Internet about how to cook your favorites. It’s very rewarding to successfully cook a meal and quite disappointing when the meal turns out bad and tastes like crap. But experience will guide you.
As you progress, learn to BBQ and spice according to your personal tastes. Not too much of this or that, but just enough to get the required taste. Again, let experience guide you.
When you get to be a “real good” cook, you will never be satisfied with fast foods again. BBQ, burgers, pizzas, tacos, chilli, burritos, etc. no problemo. Yum yum.
Try it. You’ll soon be cooking Italian, Mexican, Asian, or whatever cuisine like a pro.
I drink a little wine or beer while I cook. It makes cooking so much more enjoyable. And don’t forget to wash your hands.
What exactly is it about the donuts that are bad at DD? We usually don’t get them...just get a cappuccino, but occasionally we do get one. I thought they were prepared from pre-preparedbatter.
Our son used to work at Applebee’s restaurant and he would not eat at one. But it was because they use the cooking oils for days at a time, even after he complained to tell them that overcooked oils are bad, they didn’t change.
I used to work at green giant canning factory, and I did not eat corn or peas years after that.
