Fox News host Megyn Kelly announced Wednesday night that she will not be using the name of the Fort Hood shooter on her show.
“Authorities are identifying the shooter. If you’re interested you can get his name on other shows, like the one that preceded this one and online, but we have decided not to name these mass killers here as a policy here on the ‘Kelly File.’ Too often it is infamy they seek, and we decline to help,” Kelly said at the beginning of her show.
Suspected shooter, Army Spc. Ivan Lopez, allegedly shot and killed three people and injured 16 others before turning the gun on himself Wednesday.
Later on the show Kelly said, “The nationality of the shooter, it sounds Hispanic, Latino, but you can look up his name online if you care to know more.”
Lopez was an Iraq war veteran, who was being evaluated for posttraumatic stress disorder but had not been diagnosed.
"We do know that this soldier had behavioral health and mental health issues and was being treated for that," said Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, head of the Army's III Corps at Fort Hood.
Miley said there is no evidence that the shooting is terror related.
In October, before her show began, Kelly said she would no longer name mass shooting suspects, like the Navy Yard shooter, who was also suspected of having mental illness.

"I think we should all do it. If they want to find out the names of these people who do this, who shoot up places or take themselves out in a blaze of glory, go look it up online if they need to know the names," Kelly said in October.
In the end, it really is all just about money, power, and fame, isn’t it?
If you carry that logic out - you end up with a suppression of ALL the facts.
First the media witholds the name. Then the motive. Uh-oh, here are some disturbing facts we don’t think the public needs to know, better keep silent here. And oh yeah; no pictures.
When this happens, we end up with the Osama bin Laden death or the Sandy Hook shootings. In other words, a series of contradictory reports, coverups, lies and God only knows what really happened.

It is entirely possible, in fact highly likely, she just doesn’t want to give him the attention - much like many conservatives (including Megyn) didn’t use the names of previous mass murderers, including the previous Ft Hood terrorist.

...something in that write-up leads me to believe so...can’t quite put my finger on what it is, though...
Releasing the name puts the community on notice, especially of the person is released on bail or gets out of prison later.
It allows for members of the public, who may have relevant information, to come forward.
Glorifying the suspect is a secondary consideration. It is not juts the release of the name, it is the amount of articles, repeating news for 24 hours, how the trial is covered, and so on; not just the release of the name.

I remember early on in the trayvon story she already had GZ tried and convicted but made the mistake of having on a guest ( I can’t remember who) that was providing facts about the case and how little trayvon wasn’t the angel he was being portrayed as. She just wrinkled up he nose and looked at her notes and said “oh, I haven’t heard that”. The guest responded “I bet you haven’t”. That’s the last time I watched that airhead.

I guess you want to help the Obama administration hide the fact that virtually all of them are Muslims; converts, perhaps, but Muslims nonetheless, carrying out their jihad unopposed here on US soil.
What the other networks do now sometimes is release the guy’s pre-conversion name but never follow up with his Muslim name. Last week’s Norfolk navy yard killer named “Booker” was later revealed to have started using the name Muhammed Hasan, something that was carefully hidden for the first several days.
We, legitimately IMO, complain about the media making these people celebrities. Then most of the comments on this thread complain when a lone show makes an attempt not to do so.
I’d be fine with a shooter’s name not released except to the jury.
So. You’re OK with Megy witholding pertinent facts. You’re OK with a media that knows what’s good for us and knows what we we don’t need to know.
You wish you’d never heard of John Wilkes Booth or Lee Harvey Oswald. And you’re OK with the media lying to us by not telling us the truth.
Look. Megy is no better than any other media whore who would withold info from us for ANY reason. It starts with a name, then it escalates into any number of “reasons” to lie to the public. See previous post on OBL and Sandy Hook reports for validation.
Bottom line: A free people must have a free press.

I hope you were being sarcastic, because the truck drivers in Iraq were definitely targeted for IED attacks. So, yeah. It would be pretty stressful driving a truck down a road where the next bump in the road could be an IED. I’m not saying anything particular about the shooter. I’m simply making the point that supply and logistics folks like truck drivers were certainly subject to hostile fire in Iraq.
So basically your average 'knockout game' reporting.
Last night the name of the guy hadn’t been out very long. After Boston and a couple other incidents like Sandy Hook, many of these people get skittish that if the person being named immediately after is the wrong person, they will get accused of screwing up.
Don’t know for sure, just guessing at the reason why.

She has a point. If their objective is infamy, she’s not helping them out.
The Boston Marathon bomber got round the clock infamy, and that resulted in Islamic sympathizers, girls calling him hot, lawyers wanting his case, etc.
Such publicity could well lead another unstable person to perpetrate another such act just to get his name in print.
It's always the same thing: Police arrested some black thugs teens and are charging them...
