Fox News host Megyn Kelly announced Wednesday night that she will not be using the name of the Fort Hood shooter on her show.
Authorities are identifying the shooter. If youre interested you can get his name on other shows, like the one that preceded this one and online, but we have decided not to name these mass killers here as a policy here on the Kelly File. Too often it is infamy they seek, and we decline to help, Kelly said at the beginning of her show.
Suspected shooter, Army Spc. Ivan Lopez, allegedly shot and killed three people and injured 16 others before turning the gun on himself Wednesday.
Later on the show Kelly said, The nationality of the shooter, it sounds Hispanic, Latino, but you can look up his name online if you care to know more.
Lopez was an Iraq war veteran, who was being evaluated for posttraumatic stress disorder but had not been diagnosed.
"We do know that this soldier had behavioral health and mental health issues and was being treated for that," said Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, head of the Army's III Corps at Fort Hood.
Miley said there is no evidence that the shooting is terror related.
In October, before her show began, Kelly said she would no longer name mass shooting suspects, like the Navy Yard shooter, who was also suspected of having mental illness.
Lopez was an Iraq war veteran, who was being evaluated for posttraumatic stress disorder but had not been diagnosed.
"I think we should all do it. If they want to find out the names of these people who do this, who shoot up places or take themselves out in a blaze of glory, go look it up online if they need to know the names," Kelly said in October.
Megan and Gretchen’ cannot get over being lawyers long enough to report the news.
“If youre interested you can get his name on other shows, like the one that preceded this one and online”
THEN WHAT FREKIN DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?........GEEZ.
thats stupid, and too self-righteous
how you gonna do a show without naming the boston bombers or the next diaper-head jihadist
As she doesn’t name him his name is rolling across the bottom of the screen..the thing is there are several that won’t name him..
I wonder...was Lopez an Iraq war veteran, who was being evaluated for posttraumatic stress disorder but had not been diagnosed?
I don’t understand her reasoning. Since everyone who watches or reads the news is going to know the name anyway, what is the point of her policy? It seems self-righteous and silly.
Megy is practicing Selective Journalism.
She is deciding on what to report or not report. She is deciding on what we need to know or not know.
How very liberal of her.
If the shooters name was Abdul Mohammed would she feel the same?
BS if I have to watch the other shows to get a full report, then there is no need to watch hers.
It is silly. By focusing on NOT telling us his name, she is only adding to and increasing our desire to know that info.
It’s a reverse psychology sort of thing.
Well, I guess it’s one of three reasons:
1) Refusing to cast ethnic or racial dispersions on a killer - keeping some sort of false impartiality conduct that is self serving,
2) Not reporting everything until the very most likely dead perpetrator has been booked, convicted or buried, or
3) Keeping the GOPe faith on still trying to cling to the mistaken belief ‘hispanics’ will vote for us if we just give up every shred of our sovereignty.
My guess is on number 3.
Apparently he drove a truck in Iraq.
I’m sure it was stressful.
Exactly.
She has the correct idea. Consign these criminals to oblivion; let them be non-persons. And never repeat their names again. No more publicity, no more fame.
A fourth option...
4) “Look at me! I’m an attention whore! I’m NOT gonna tell you his name. Isn’t that cool? ~giggle~”
What difference now does it make?
Wow. It took until the 16th comment to see a FReeper who “got it.” I agree: consign these freaks to oblivion. Wish ALL news shows would do this.
