At What Point Does Separation Make Sense?

Earlier this week, Scott posted an article on our facebook page titled, "Will It Take Revolution?" published by Canada Free Press. As I was reading through the article, I couldn't help but think that Mark, Scott, or I could have penned it because the content almost mirrored our constant dialogue over the past year or two. The author, Douglas V. Gibbs, brilliantly captures the essence of the current political landscape and ultimately makes the same point that military leaders do in times of intense situations: "All options must be on the table."

Is this the conversation that really needs to be had? Or is it sufficient to just talk about the next set of overlords in Washington DC?

Dr. Walter Williams got me thinking about this 11 years ago in his provocative article "It's time to part company" google it and read it...this article is very similar.

What needs to happen is already happening to a certain extent but needs to go much further. The states need to stand against the feds.

One problem is that the states have been selling their powers to the feds for many decades and the feds learned early on that they can play states against each other.

“It seems to me that they have compromised their status as independent sovereigns because they are so dependent on what the federal government has done,” the chief justice said during Wednesday’s nearly three hours of hearings on the controversial health insurance law.

Indeed, our last line of defense against an out-of-control national government has sold itself into slavery and as Roberts stated, “compromised their status as independent sovereigns.” Sadly, everybody is so focused on a pretend solution (i.e. getting a republican into the White House) they’re ignoring the very entity that could actually reign in the national government...the States.

I think the conversation needs to be had, but unfortunately the fear card is throw all too often. You know, we have to get Obama out of office or we will die. We have to think of the SCOTUS appointments or we will die. We have to get rid of ObamaCare or we will die (perhaps). etc. The game is simple, point to the other guy, tell all the horror stories, and then the sheep fall in line. A few sheep say well next time, or after THIS election, it’s too important, we can’t let this, that, the other, etc. The sheep are almost to the slaughter house and if we keep trembling with fear, we will never be able to fix anything. NOW is the time to say NO MORE. If the GOP party bosses don’t get their Mitt win with this election, the GOP will be transformed. The revolt against the Mitt vote they want will also send a message to the others in DC that we have had enough. Constant, vicious pressure on them will also minimize the damage with another four with Obama. In addition, another four with Obama and the Dems will be done. 2016 will be a new game with We the People in charge. Just my thoughts and spare me the fear rhetoric. I really am sick of hearing it as I watch my country go down in flames. Find the courage to fight for our country or it is gone.

actually, it is we the people who can take the government down...

We are born as sovereign citizens and we have NOT protected those rights.

If you want to know why the government steps all over our rights, watch this video.

A great speech by Janice Rogers Brown in 2000, where she addresses the issue of when/if it will be time for another revolution. And remember....she said this over a decade ago, what would she say now? Read the whole thing!

http://ejournalofpoliticalscience.org/janicerogersbrown.html

Of course, given the vision of the American Revolution just outlined, you might think none of that can happen here. I have news for you. It already has. The revolution is over. What started in the 1920’s; became manifest in 1937; was consolidated in the 1960’s; is now either building to a crescendo or getting ready to end with a whimper.

At this moment, it seems likely leviathan will continue to lumber along, picking up ballast and momentum, crushing everything in its path. Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates, and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.

****

I will close with a story I like a lot. It’s a true story. It happened on June 10, 1990. A British Airways jet bound for Malaga, Spain, took off from Birmingham, England. It was expected to be a routine flight. As the jet climbed through the 23,000-foot level, there was a loud bang; the cockpit windshield directly in front of the captain blew out. The sudden decompression sucked Captain Lancaster out of his seatbelt and into the hole left by the windscreen. A steward who happened to be in the cockpit managed to snag the captain’s feet as he hurtled past. Another steward rushed onto the flight deck, strapped himself into the captain’s chair and, helped by other members of the crew, clung with all his strength to the captain. The slipstream was so fierce, they were unable to drag the pilot back into the plane. His clothing was ripped from his body. With Lancaster plastered against the nose of the jet, the co-pilot donned an oxygen mask and flew the plane to Southampton —approximately 15 minutes away — and landed safely. The captain had a fractured elbow, wrist and thumb; a mild case of frostbite, but was otherwise unharmed.

We find ourselves, like the captain, in a situation that is hopeless but not yet desperate. The arcs of history, culture, philosophy, and science all seem to be converging on this temporal instant. Familiar arrangements are coming apart; valuable things are torn from our hands, snatched away by the decompression of our fragile ark of culture. But, it is too soon to despair. The collapse of the old system may be the crucible of a new vision. We must get a grip on what we can and hold on. Hold on with all the energy and imagination and ferocity we possess. Hold on even while we accept the darkness. We know not what miracles may happen; what heroic possibilities exist. We may be only moments away from a new dawn.

Dad always said “Don’t marry a woman that will press charges”. If she does that, yeah it’s time for a separation.

Indeed, it is We the People but We the People must act through some entity...we cannot “rebind” the national government with the “chains of the Constitution” (Jefferson, Kentucky Resolution) on our own. It must be through some entity that acts on behalf of We the People...in this case, the States. It is our only hope and you are right, We the People have NOT protected our rights. No, we’ve BLINDLY trusted elected officials at the national government to do so and when they didn’t (Medicare Part D, republican House, Senate and President), we looked the other way and made excuses for their anti-constitutional actions. Much like an abused spouse which I contend most conservatives are; and the RNC knows they’ll keep coming back. Trust me, I used to work there and most conservatives have no idea how much they’re played by PR firms, focus groups to get in line. We’re seeing it now with Romney. In a few weeks, once Gingrich disappears, the conservatives will check their so-called devotion to the Constitution (hardly) at the door and pony right up to ole’ Mitt.

We need to take our eyes off the national government and focus our energy and attention on motivating our States to engage this fight. If we don’t...well then I guess “we’re all serfs now!”

Yep, too many players at the state level feeding at the Fed’s pork trough, and giving away the rights of the states for personal gain. The feds need to be put back into their proper place, and schooled on their constitutional responsibilities, by the people if necessary.

We don’t need this if we respect the 10th amendment. It should actually be easier to convince the more strident on each side to apprecieate the amendment.

My "republican" governor is one of those progressives who wants money for high speed rail despite the fact that our roads are falling apart.

Spot on, and we’re working feverishly with a number of State legislators to do just this...assert their police powers via the 10th. Madison makes this exquisitely clear in Federalist 45. But the State legislators will NEVER assert their reserved authority if We the People don’t demand it of them.

Believe me cripplecreek, there are MANY fraudulent anti-constitutional republicans at all levels of government...yet, we dutifully line up at the polls cycle after cycle putting them back into power.

I dream of the day when there are State based organizations devoted strictly to the restoration of the 10th Amendment in their State alone. Yet I find myself continuing to live in the nightmare of getting the “lesser of two evils” into national office. Ask this, what do you end up with when one employs the “lesser of two evils” strategy...evil!

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting on the states to fight back...

They are bought and paid for by the Feds.

What we need to do is learn the law.

Not sure I agree with you and I certainly don’t see the “stop paying taxes” approach being effective. That is, until you can get a million people to participate.

No, there are States right now that are taking steps to “nullify” unconstitutional laws flowing from the national government. There are States calling for a Article V Amendment Convention. There are State legislators privately discussing separation from the Union. There’s a lot more going on than you might be aware of friend. Sadly, this movement is at it’s infancy and most people are still afraid to associate with it because we’ve been conditioned to believe we must bow at the alter of the national government. I can assure you the Founders, Framers and Ratifiers would NEVER bow and would be embarrassed at how sheepish we are.

I fully agree that large numbers of people are needed and I am aware of several steps different states are taking, but cutting their funding off is the only way to fully destroy the beast.

but you miss the bigger point of it all.

Asserting ones rights is a big F-— you to all of the government regulations...

Statuatory laws do not trump common law:

U.C.C. 1-103:6 Common law.

The Code is “Complementary” to the common law which remains in
force except where displaced by the Code ....

A statute should be construed in harmony with the common law
unless there is a clear legislative intent to abrogate the common
law. ... “The Code cannot be read to preclude a common law
action.”
