Is this the conversation that really needs to be had? Or is it sufficient to just talk about the next set of overlords in Washington DC?

Dr. Walter Williams got me thinking about this 11 years ago in his provocative article "It's time to part company" google it and read it...this article is very similar.

What needs to happen is already happening to a certain extent but needs to go much further. The states need to stand against the feds.

One problem is that the states have been selling their powers to the feds for many decades and the feds learned early on that they can play states against each other.

I think the conversation needs to be had, but unfortunately the fear card is throw all too often. You know, we have to get Obama out of office or we will die. We have to think of the SCOTUS appointments or we will die. We have to get rid of ObamaCare or we will die (perhaps). etc. The game is simple, point to the other guy, tell all the horror stories, and then the sheep fall in line. A few sheep say well next time, or after THIS election, it’s too important, we can’t let this, that, the other, etc. The sheep are almost to the slaughter house and if we keep trembling with fear, we will never be able to fix anything. NOW is the time to say NO MORE. If the GOP party bosses don’t get their Mitt win with this election, the GOP will be transformed. The revolt against the Mitt vote they want will also send a message to the others in DC that we have had enough. Constant, vicious pressure on them will also minimize the damage with another four with Obama. In addition, another four with Obama and the Dems will be done. 2016 will be a new game with We the People in charge. Just my thoughts and spare me the fear rhetoric. I really am sick of hearing it as I watch my country go down in flames. Find the courage to fight for our country or it is gone.

actually, it is we the people who can take the government down...

We are born as sovereign citizens and we have NOT protected those rights.

If you want to know why the government steps all over our rights, watch this video.

Dad always said “Don’t marry a woman that will press charges”. If she does that, yeah it’s time for a separation.

We don’t need this if we respect the 10th amendment. It should actually be easier to convince the more strident on each side to apprecieate the amendment.

You can’t have constituional freedom and socialism at the same time. One precludes the other.

Unlike the prior American Revolutions, this time both sides might be OK with a peaceful split -- like the Norway/Sweden split. Here is a proposed map circulated by the Left after John Kerry was defeated in 2004.

It does not have to be a full split. All 50 states could remain organized for mutual self defense and other things authorized by the Constitution. "USA" could refer to something more like NATO -- the original US govt was more similar to NATO than it was to our current Socialist Nation State. A subset of states could voluntarily join together in a multi-state Socialist system. We did it before with Free States and Slave States, and we can do it again.

The marriage metaphor works.

If you woke up in Vegas married to a Leftist shrew, would you really want to preserve that marriage and keep the families together?

Think about it. This is what we are married to:

I wonder if the money will do it. If the federal deficit gets high enough, perhaps some state or states will decide they’ve had enough, that belonging to the union isn’t worth it anymore.
