New York must require microstamping of all semiautomatic handguns the criminals weapon of choice that are made or sold in the state.
Manufacturers would etch a number on each guns firing pin, which would stamp that number onto the shell casing when the weapon is fired. Two years ago, California passed a similar law that has yet to take full effect.
If microstamping were in force, shell casings found at crime scenes would become calling cards easily traced back to the gun that shot them and, therefore, to its registered owner.
The technology in no way interferes with anyones Second Amendment rights. Hunting rifles would not be affected at all. And why should a law-abiding handgun owner care if his or her shell casings bear an identifying mark?
Meanwhile, microstamping would give a powerful tool to police who regularly discover shell casings that traditional ballistic fingerprinting cant trace.
Up against these common-sense arguments, the gun nuts have gone ballistic in Albany.

a little emery cloth or replacement FP will nix this scheme.
And it can be defeated readily with simple hand tools.
A switch to using revolvers would make it moot also.
The flaw - of course - is that that the person that fired the weapon would most probably not be the person that purchased it. (Those of room temp IQ or above need no further explanation of how that might happen.)
Liberals, of course, cannot understand logic past the first line, so why bother?
Or just using a revolver instead of an autoloader. Liberals don't understand the first thing about guns.
And all of this is predicated on firearms being registered.
Guns are stolen and moved out of state all the time.
So to make this effective, that would mean every gun, everywhere would have to be registered.
That is not going to happen.
“New York must require microstamping of all semiautomatic handguns the criminals weapon of choice”
“easily traced back to the gun that shot them and, therefore, to its registered owner.”
Someone believes that criminals register their weapons. Only when they make gun ownership a crime.
Duuuugh... criminals don’t buy guns they steal them....
Or buy stolen ones.. made in some other place..
What moron devised this tactic?...
When meeting new people my first thought is...
Is this a democrat?... sometimes I have the temerity to ask.. When I don’t it could be a mistake..
More political posturing. Actual implementation of the project has never proved to be reliable. Where cartridge cases have been collected in mass and databased, not one crime has been solved with all the expense.
What criminal activity are they trying to hide by pushing this issue?
This IDIOCY again!?
What this really is, is an attempt to outlaw legal firearm sales in N.Y.
Didn’t New Jersey (?) just finally abandon their fired cartridge case registry?
Spent millions, never solved a single case.
This with every gun sold having to submit a sample fired case and the guns SN#.
Oh, and for the idiots of N.Y., criminals do not “Buy” their guns from dealers, they steal them or trade drugs for them.
They would not buy guns with this unavailable technology.
Revolvers do not eject their fired cases.
Criminals ARE stupid, but even if they used such guns they would quickly learn to pick up their brass, or find a way to keep it from falling to the ground.
Not that the idiots care, this is really about outlawing new guns.
Liberals need microstamps so they can immediately be identified.
This is what happens when amateurs offer opinions.
I ask my doctor questions, I explore alternatives with him. I do not offer medical advce to him. If these bozos can’t see that two minutes with a bit of sand paper or a small ball peen hammer can undo their brilliant plan, maybe they’re too stupid to do their jobs.
Liberals, of course, cannot understand logic past the first line, so why bother?
I think each liberal should have a macrostamp on their forheads....idiot liberal
Will guns provided to Mexican drug cartels by the federal government be microstamped?
FYI
Brass found at a crime scene is pretty weak evidence. I could pick up 10 kinds of brass at a gun range and drop it at a crime scene, leaving plenty of time to get out of town while they track down people who weren’t even there.
Why not pass al aw require registration and licensing of automobiles to reduce the number of theft, carjackings and DWI?
How about a law requiring all males over the age of 9, to register their DNA, so if a RAPE occurs we can track it to a person?
I would like a law that says all people running for elected office be required to take an IQ test, EEG and a drug test! The drug test should be bi-monthly!
