Yeah, and this is what his version of "coming from nothing" meant:

Governor Rod Blagojevich promised his mother he would always be honest and "never take bribes," and never to dishonor the memory of his Serbian father......

Yeah, that's some "nothing".

Since Rod fell on his sword for Obama

He didn't "fall on his sword", he was shoved into it.

No way to stop him.

What worries me more is whether he can issue an Amnesty or Citizenship for all illegal aliens by Executive Order between Nov 2012 and Jan 2013. Could such a thing be reversed by a new GOP POTUS by Executive Order ? I don’t think you can legally revoke citizenship once given.

No problem with this sentence, but there should be a lot more people going down for corruption.

Poor ole Sheppie Smith must be in mourning. I think Sheppie had a big crush on ole Rod.

Probably so. I can’t stand Sheppie.

I grew up in Hawaii and it’s government for the most part is incredibly corrupt. A democrat and union alamo. It’s a model of corruption. Not as violent as Chicago, but the ol boy democrat network is in full effect when it comes to who is allowed to run because in most cases, it’s always democrat vs. democrat in any election. Most state and fed reps, along with senators are usually in it for life.
City council, commissions like liquor. Everyone is on the take and looking to get their palms greased.

These cases are always over charged, prosecutor stands on the court house steps reading a damning 18 charge indictment.

Rod B gets 14 years while Bill and Hillary get no time, fairly outrages, 4 years would have been more than enough.

boy...folks here think no one ever gets time anymore

Blago will serve 12 years if he is a perfect prisoner...serious time to me.

in the old days, folks even more corrupt like Edwards and Kingfish never had to stare down sentences that long..Edwards did 8 under newer 1987 laws

I’d say he should do 14 years at hard labor, breaking rocks with his face, but the damage has already been done...

"Should Obama and company have been drawn into this? I believe so. Is it unfair to take down Blago for what he was trying to do? I don't think so, and when a jury buys into what the prosecutors is saying these days, it's a fairly reasoned thing to think there was good reason. Look at the cases these days that wind up exhonerating the guilty, because the jury acts in an almost unbelievable manner."

You got the cart in front of the horse. The bad verdicts (OJ, Casey Anthony, etc.) are the direct result of jury nullification. Blago's defense didn't dare attempt jury nullification, as to do so would have directly involved the President of the United States. No lawyer since John Dean has gone there...

I would have guessed he would only have to serve 50 to 75% of his sentence. Are you sure it’s 12 of 14 years? That’s is a rather stiff penalty.

I don’t like the guy. I think he deserved what he got. I am not convinced there is benefit to keeping him locked up more than eight years.

Every second of that eight years will be miserable for him. It will seem like 50. He will never hold power again. His family may not even be there when he gets out.

We despise people like him, but wishing him more than this probably borders on being self-destructive to ourselves. We should not let this consume us.

This may sound insulting. I hope you don’t take it that way.

I thought he would get a vacation at club fed and a cushy job upon retirement. Or at least rat out all the other scumbags. It does not take a lifetime in politics to gain the wisdom to realize that.
1) if he was this cocky about it, it happened all the time. 2) Its not as if this idiot invented it.
3) He just is not as good at it as all the other predators and parasites who practice it 24/7 in the political/criminal/oligarchy that passes for goverment in the USA

I believe Blago’s team did try to involve members of the administration. The judge refused to allow it.

That being said, I believe the prosecutor has grounds to file charges against administration officials, but having seen how Clinton scandals turned out, probably figured it was a lost cause here.

I think you make some safe assumptions there. You’re probably right. If a guy is this stupid though, I don’t think you look the other way. He essentially begged for it. In hindsight I’ll bet he can’t believe he was that stupid.

54 days per year maximum good time...vested at end of each year....if you can keep it

With his mouth?

they compound the 54 days based on 360 day years since fed guidelines are months not years

Hence 5-6 days per year outside of good time build and have to be paid

It’s a screwy way to calculate in their favor but in Blagos case he will have 2 months built in over the 168 months he will do even if he gets all good time.....unlikely btw....he will likely get some disciplinary “shot”

You ever notice the guy who must be the butt of the joke that the people are applauding is in that picture? Upper left, seated behind the woman in the white dress who has her face partially hidden. Looks a little miffed.
