Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) took to the House floor Tuesday night to criticize what she called a "demeaning" Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl.
In the ad for Pepsi Max, a black woman sitting on a park bench gets angry with her husband after an attractive, white female jogger sits down next to the couple and smiles and waves at the man.
After the man smiles back, his girlfriend or wife gets angry and whips her Pepsi Max can at him. The man ducks, and the can hits the attractive jogger in the head. The ad is titled "Love hurts."
Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.
"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."

We watched all the ads on YouTube. I have to say, it made me uncomfortable.
I didn’t notice the color of the people until I thought about it afterward, but just the idea that they ran away was nasty.
I have no clue what they were thinking.
This is an example of a great Superbowl commercial

If anyone here thought the ad was funny - would they like their wife, sister or daughter assaulted like that? Being hit so hard that she would be kocked to the ground and senseless? Real hysterical right? I mean it was just some dumb white woman who probably deserved it as they RAN off after hurting her. Hilarious.
People now are so conditioned by seeing crap like this on Obama TV that they accept it. It was funny like the Black Panthers running the polling booths? Funny like Obama running the national debt from $7 trillion to over $14 trillion in 18 months ceuase the dumb white people voted for him?
It is gonna be real funny when the dollar loses reserve currency status in 2011 or 2012 like the pound did in the 1970s and your standard of living is cut and half. At that time - people are gonna be coming for your “stuff” and will take it by force, which will be real ******g funny - won’t it?
Hate to say it but I agree with Sheila Jackson Lee in this case. I’m tired of the media constantly pushing blackman + white female (usually blonds.) I went to the gym today and that was the pictures on the wall, always the same pairing from these 2 groups. You never see blackman + Pakistani woman for example. Always white female. Always.
Black women should feel angry. I’ve seen stats where they’re having a hard time finding romantic partners, many black women are upwardly mobile and there are many black female professionals who are hot. They should be treated much better than this.
First time I heard of this was today, on Rush’s show. I don’t find it funny and find it offensive. Especially considering the level of black on white crime in this country, which gets ignored or condoned or explained away. It is OK to hate whites or Christians or straights or men or conservatives today.
Yep, but not going there, not for even a second.
Some more of SJL's greatest hits:
on July 4, 1996, on the live broadcast with JPL of the Mars rover video, she wanted to know if they would go near the Apollo 11 landing site
a few months ago she talked about 2 Vietnams in a House floor speech
Do you wonder if perhaps local Houston news folks ever show her activities? If they do, how does this moron get re-elected?
Most of these commercials were take-offs on Idiocracy’s “Ow, My Balls!” All that was missing was an ad for Brawndo.
It's not about assaulting anyone. Jackson Lee is offended that the black man in the ad finds the white woman attractive.
Frantzie, I didn’t see the add. I’m responding to other people’s descriptions.
You could very well be correct.
The part I was responding to, was the idea this guy being a black person, it was an insult. I don’t see that aspect of it being racist.
Hitting the white person with the can and acting as if that didn’t matter certainly would have been.
I find the existance of Sheila Jackson Lee to be an insult to the rest of the animal kingdom.
That is NOT funny! Oreos ARE in fact very racist in every sense. They always have been.
I hate oreo cookies and the company should be sued.
Well, when’s my Czech American month?
Ms. Lee, I’m afraid your Race Card has expired.
And this idiot is worried about a Pepsi commercial?
I had a receipt in my wallet for a long time, and when I looked at it the other day, all the printing had worn off.
Most of these people’s race cards are like that.
Given the nasty, violent attitude of the woman in the ad, is it surprising that a guy would prefer a more gentle, feminine woman?
Good one Jack!
God help me, but I’m going to (partially) agree with Spacewoman Lee here.
The black woman in the ad was domineering, demanding, and violent from the start, in a stereotypical way. The black man was skulking and henpecked. The white jogger was nice and friendly and much more attractive than the black woman. The black man warmed to the jogger immediately and the black woman responded with scowling ugliness and uncontrolled violence that harmed an innocent. The blacks then hightailed it rather than rendering aid or staying to take responsibility.
I’ve seen numerous cellphone videos that play scenes similar to this out for real that have been posted on youtube. It is for fear of becoming a victim of such uncivilized behavior that many people move to the suburbs and stay there. Yes, the commercial was exaggerated and played for laughs, but the underlying character and behavior patterns are real and serious.
So, in other words, you’re saying she was offended because the ad revealed truths about her culture that she’d prefer remain unspoken.
I’m really tired of racists like her.
Just for argument sake: In some ways, couldn’t it be said that the commercial pointed out how normal it is for persons to be attracted to one another without consideration of their skin color? That we are not a nation of bigots. That attraction and love in our culture isn’t limited or precluded by race. That maybe we all very much do ‘...want to just get along’?
