Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Had thought of that earlier....Wonder if somehow he was locked out of his house, got the bug bombs thinking it would help keep him warm. Accidently poisoned himself. IIRC bombs were found late in the day and police could not locate him. They did NOT enter his house. Just assumed he wasn’t home when no one answered the door???
If it was an old phone the account would no loger be in his name, but the name of the new owner. It may have been a second phone as some business people keep phones for personal use and others for business use. Regardless the cab drivers phone number was on that phone and they also may have found it by using phone companies GPS service....
It took them a few days to find it.
In one article it mentioned that many had called without Wheeler returning their calls. FBI will be able to track all calls/ emails etc sent from that phone.
Trespass....when he just lost a lawsuit?? He's not stupid.
I don't think he got home until the 29th. Picked up some stuff he needed and set off to get back up north.
I'll bet you 1000 to one that the owner set off the rodent bombs....It's about that time when critters go looking for nice warm nooks.
Really not hearing anything new here.
I just repeat that I think something happened to him at his home later in the day on Tues. the 28th or Wed morning the 29th - medication problem, TIA, I don’t know what - but he was at the drug store by Wed Afternoon, not himself and with very bloodshot eyes, according to the pharmacist.
i’m here to back up your response but if we look at Ashley Turton and her demise (Turton has not been given press at all even on Drudge which really bothers me)........
Body of Turton found in vehicle/no dumpster around/no sec cams that anyone knows of/in a very cold am/or nite hrs/@ her residence but unknown about clothing whether fresh or from ****time of departure from last known departure site***//and most of all what was her physical condition from the last place she left.
DRUDGE has buried these 2 reports & now i’m really getting sick to my stomach.
I’m feeling i’ll never trust MDRUDGE again.

Earlier articles say that Phoebe Dill (friend of Katherine Klyce and Jack Wheeler) said she last saw Mr. Wheeler her husband dropped Jack Wheeler off at the train station on Christmas Eve. This evidently came from interviewing Mrs. Dill.
But if that was the case, why would his car be in Wilmington?
Later reports put his car near the Wilmington train station, supposedly parked there on December 13. So, what happens to the story of him being dropped off on Christmas Eve?
In any case, he gets off the train in Wilmington and somehow makes it to New Castle without his car. But with the report of the TV blaring and the car in Wilmington, it makes me question the whole Phoebe Dill thing. Was this noted as an error or misunderstanding or something already?
It looks like they didn't get to the Pharmacist until after this hit the papers and I consider what he said as "tainted". He was at the drugstore at 6:00 PM on the 29th. The Pharmacist also said he had filled prescriptions for him before.
Being that it is that time of year...After the meeting, I picture John telling different individuals Happy New Year...and perhaps someone asking John what he's going to do over the next few days...The Big Army Game is on the 30th.
The 29th....looks like he's headed back up north on business.....
NO CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR CONVERSATIONS WITH HIS KIDS??? WITH HIS WIFE???
dIDN'T CALL HIS WIFE WHEN HE WAS IN TROUBLE.
Something ain't quite right.
So, why did he put the car at the train station, get a ride to his home, then get a ride back to the train station?
Secondly: One big bad snowstorm...veified by two of his emails on te 26th and 27th saying he was stuck in NYC....
The car had been parked since December 13th. He has a month to month. These are not poor people and it's probably a paid for business expense.
Just forget about the car for now.
The guy is simply a very busy, active man of extraordinary talents. He had an appoinment someplace...
About the boots...Work boots or snow boots???
No one is thinking about the snow all about and the winds...just plain miserable all over...
According to a report I read, he was at the pharmacy at 3pm (i think) and the pharmicist said his eyes were bloodshot like he’d never seen anyone’s eyes bloodshot before. Wheeler asked the phramicist for a ride, he refused, but offered to call someone for Wheeler, but he left.
Maybe he wears contacts...maybe he got dirt in his eyes...
I have a friend who has a terrible time with his eyes occasionally...The last time he visited, I let him use my visine. Maybe it's an allergic reaction.
He parked the car and went to court.
The legal dispute between Wheeler and the Marinis involved at least three lawsuits two in Chancery Court and one in Superior Court and the most recent legal action came on Dec. 13, when a Chancery Court judge denied a request by Wheeler to issue a temporary restraining order to stop further construction on the home.

The Court of Chancery is where he was looking for his car—the garage attached to the courthouse. Perhaps he’d parked there previously.
But his car was towed away from closer to the train station—according to reports, it had been there since Dec. 13.
In any case, why would he leave his car in Wilmington and go home to New Castle without it (on Dec 13)? Perhaps he parked at the courthouse for court and moved it to the train station later in the day...but it still doesn’t explain him getting off the train in Wilmington and getting to New Castle without his car that was right there. Or why he would leave it there and get the ride with friends on Christmas Eve.
Went to the construction house to get out of the weather, lit the “bomb” for light or warmth, they poisoned him and caused the confused state.
Who called the fire department? Who would see smoke coming from an empty house at eleven o'clock at night?
He may have left the car in the paid garage, because he didn't have protected parking at home. Didn't want to have to move the car every few hours to accommodate parking regulations. Friends in the city keep their car in a similar place, getting it out only for special occasions. Use public transportation or hitch rides everywhere else. Particularly if parking is difficult at their destination.
