Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

One would think with all the security cameras they would know who put him in the dumpster by now and be able to release some information as to the cause of death.

Understand that Happy Harry’s IS the walgreen....Is it 9+ miles from his house?
Jack lived in the City of New Castle not New Castle.
New Castle is the unincorporated aera south of Wilmington.
It’s proper name is actually New Castle County.
That store 5.4 miles away from where Jack lived and not in the same town.
It is obvious to me that Jack was robbed and in the process received head trauma (probably a scull fracture).
He then wandered around for a day and a half like a four
year toddler until he was finally done in or just died
from the initial injuries.
Who assaulted Jack as he emerged from the Amtrak station on December 28th?
Obviously it ended his life.

December 29th
Found a new article @ CNN Justice entitled “Wheeler apparently called for a cab to Philadelphia” between 4 and 5 PM ... before he went to the Pharmacy at 6:00.
(The call appears to have been made on the same day and from the same shopping center in New Castle — about 10 miles from Newark as the pharmacy)
6:00 Pharmacy Newcastle
7:00 (before) at the courthouse parking garage video contact with attendant who he told that his brief case was stolen
7:30 Others Courthouse employees see him in Garage. He tell them he has money (looking for car, may be in wrong garage)
They said he didn’t return any emails to his buddies on the 29th.
On Dec. 30,
John was seen near the Hotel du Pont at 3:30 p.m., close to 10th and Orange Streets, still in Wilmington, Delaware
At 8:30 p.m. John is next spotted at the Nemours Building in Wilmington.
(IIRC both sightings were made by the cab driver whose number was in his cell phone and who said he hadn’t given him a ride......Hmmmm?...someone check that guy out?)

According to ABC News, police have said that a footprint impression from a workboot was picked up by investigators during the search of John P. Wheeler’s home. The workboots, according to police, have a knobby pattern to them, leaving a distinct tread pattern that they were able to pick up when they dusted for prints

The footprint size obviously has led investigators to assume it wasn’t John’s own workboots, indicating someone was in his home and may have been the individual watching television so loudly, which his neighbor Ron heard the week of Christmas.

If they stole his brief case, they may have had the key and location of house. Perp could have planted cell phone in house across street and even set off the pest bombs there.

All I can say is I spent a lot time looking for it, and besides appearing to be a good match this is the only thing I found that comes near to it. Of course, I can't vouch for the veracity of the video.
Agreed with your timeline until I saw the information about the work boots in the house. My current revision:
Now think he made it home on the twenty eighth. Was greeted by the man in workboots who played the loud music. Hit on the head, moved to the house under construction or chased perp to the house (where cell phone fell out of his pocket)and was hit on head there. The perp thinking he was dead, tried to light the house on fire with the smoke bombs destroying the evidence/body.
He supposidly called a cab to take him to PA, but didn’t show...or couldn’t show.
What or who was in PA?

John was scheduled, according to Delaware police, to take an Amtrak train from his Washington office to Wilmington.
Wheeler emailed long-time friend James Fallows of the Atlantic Magazine with a short note, of which the brevity was a surprise to Fallows. (Was it from home computer or cell phone????)

Neighbors said loud noise coming from Wheeler house Christmas week, thinks they came home early. Police find sign of other in home (large work-Boot prints)
Was Wheeler still in his work clothes on the twenty ninth that he wore home on the twenty eighth....Surprised as he entered or soon after entering his own home? Mugged by the intruder who was waiting for him? Taken across the street or chased mugger across the street? Lost cell phone there/then?
Wheeler inquired at city law firm
In the final hours of his life, John P. Wheeler visited the 10th-floor offices of the Connolly Bove Lodge and Hutch law firm in the Nemours Building looking to speak with the managing partner, an attorney at the firm said Monday.
The former Pentagon official was in downtown Wilmington the afternoon of Dec. 30, looking to borrow train fare to travel north, the attorney said.
When a receptionist went to find someone to speak with Wheeler, he was gone.
Wheeler was seen on surveillance video wandering through the Nemours building around 8:30 p.m., still apparently disoriented, and refusing help from passers-by who approached him.
The lawyer at the firm was unsure if Wheeler had any relationship with lawyers there. Arthur “Chip” Connolly, managing partner at the firm, declined to comment Monday about Wheeler’s visit.
Just before his last moments on video, Wheeler exited the Nemours building from its entrance adjacent to 11th Street. He was last seen on video at 8:42 p.m., crossing the Hotel du Pont valet area, then walking southeast toward Market Street and Wilmington’s East Side.

that two civil servants at state were termionated for looking at files without authorization.It seems that no one knows anything elese. The investigation into the Harris fraud case and those involved came to a halt with his death.
He was the key link and was ready to sing like a canary.Then Harris was whacked.Very professionally I might add.

He must have hitched and got robbed by whomever picked him up.

The cabbie (Scott) says he went into a store. That store name is not given either.
They mentioned that he was on the 9th & 11th floor of a hotel...They must have videos of this.
They sure are leaving out a lot of stuff.
I'm pretty sure the wife can control a lot of info which gets released.
I wouldn't bet that the trash man didn't pick up an "extra" from someplace. (A little side money)
Why are they not releasing stuff?? Because the wife is from a very elite family and she's a controlling force. (She's like a Southern Rockefeller)
