NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel. NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the The OReilly Factor on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill OReilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a Muslim dilemma. Mr. OReilly said, The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.
Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. OReilly.
He continued: I mean, look, Bill, Im not a bigot. You know the kind of books Ive written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.
Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. He said the war with Muslims, Americas war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I dont think theres any way to get away from these facts, Mr. Williams said.
NPR said in its statement that the remarks were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.
The public radio organization said it thanked him for many years of service. Mr. Williams did not immediately respond on Wednesday night to an e-mail seeking comment...

Thanks Arthur Wildfire! March, it’s easy to forget that the talking heads in the media are part of the entertainment industry. :’)

You got that right!! NPR is as stupid as the government opening a deli that hands out moldy ham sandwiches that cost the taxpayers 20 bucks a pop. The GOP could have a field day with cutting spending if it has the balls to do so.
“The View is standing by Juan.....”
Does`nt impress me in the least. Their reasons for doing so overlook his wandering off the plantationare,,,
1) Trying to cover their asses because they looked like
fools for walking out on O`Reilly.
or,,,
2) Williams is still a lib and has the correct skin color,
so they will overlook his wandering off the plantation .
I remember FReepers telling me that FoxNews sold out to the Saudis, or Hillary. Does anyone still stink that?If it were the Saudis, why would Obama be attacking Fox personally and through proxies in and out of his stable of partisan media shills? Nope, we're faced with the real possibility that Fox reports and lets us decide; and it doesn't have a deathgrip on the idealogy of its pundits. And that's just what we should want in the fourth estate. When a journalist only takes an adversarial position versus members of the Republican Party, then he or she is not a journalist at all, but a partisan media shill.
Sorry didn’t “/s” as I was posting to Mag who would understand that.
But your points are legit.
the Muslim garb doesn't bother me..younger terrorist brothers trying to fit in don't choose to wear the tribal attire.
In the late spring of 9/11, 5:00 in the afternoon, another and myself walked into middle eastern restaurant on Exchange Street in Portland, ME, which we thought was open as the hours confirmed; but evidently was not; however, the door was unlocked, entering up this aisle,I commented has to be authentic as a big table of 8-10 middle eastern men eat here (were in a meeting.. dressed just the same as in the picture). We were quickly met by a guy taller in stature who blocked us, turned us right around and practically pushed us out the door-everyone had stopped talking at that point, looking down; all but for one -we locked eyes. When we got outside and standing dumbfounded, we asked each other: 'what just happened?'--It happened all so fast and left one sort of stunned for lack of a better word. It probably was explainable--but then 9/11 happened and some of the terrorists had stayed in Portland. The restaurant closed.
Juan uttered the “M” word. You can’t say anything critical about the ROP even if it is the truth.
Time for the new Congressmen to do something about it. We have an economy that has gone to sh*t but we must not stare ourselves blind on it — the muslim problem is just as pressing as the economy is and much more insiduous.
For crying out loud America, look what is happening in Europe! Doesn’t it mean anything to you?
Corporation for Public Broadcasting just requested approx. $600 MILLION TAXPAYER dollars. It’s bigger than NPR. Cut them off!
I can't see how them not being around overshadows or shuts up the Fox personalities.
Good catch - my post was inspired by the pravda/izvestia joke you mention.
-jtal who took russian “for fun” 22 yrs ago
I know... I don't get it.
Sounds like the next target is Mara Liasson...
Absolutely outrageous. I've been saying this for years... Stop Taxpayer Funding of National Propaganda Radio! And PBS, too!
“OReilly is taped earlier than shown. Isnt Hannity, too? So that things didnt hit the fan until later?”
I know their interviews with certain guests are taped earlier, as are Greta’s, since they’re often done at a different location.. But I believe the first runs of their broadcasts each night are live, like Beck’s, because I’ve seen them interrupted often by breaking news/extensive coverage of stories such as Chilean miners, etc., then when the news cuts back to them, they’re commenting on it minute by minute. Also before and after a press conference or presidential speech, they’re doing their shows live. Of course, in most places, they’re shown again later that night.
Yes, there are guys out to destroy FoxNews, one being Savage. He once played up an obscure report about Murdoch yucking it up with Hillary prior to 08.
Me, too. And that's one of the differences between us and them, isn't it? "Speech" doesn't scare us.
And Tom Shales is being let go from the Wash comPost. Seems he offended the D.C. glitterati by referring to Cristianne Ammanpour as a terrorist sympathizer.
Now he’s someone else I could support! Cause he was right about Ammanpour.
