NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel. NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the The OReilly Factor on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill OReilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a Muslim dilemma. Mr. OReilly said, The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.
Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. OReilly.
He continued: I mean, look, Bill, Im not a bigot. You know the kind of books Ive written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.
Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. He said the war with Muslims, Americas war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I dont think theres any way to get away from these facts, Mr. Williams said.
NPR said in its statement that the remarks were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.
The public radio organization said it thanked him for many years of service. Mr. Williams did not immediately respond on Wednesday night to an e-mail seeking comment...

NPR listeners don’t want the truth to interfere with their fully washed brains.
Someone else had it right. . .M PR for Muslim Public Radio!!!
How TOLERANT of them!!!! LOL!
NPR = Pravda 2010
"facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time because we're hardwired not to always think clearly when we're scared,"
NPR is not just PC It's scared.

Exposed to a constant flow of truth, leftists on FoxNews sometimes cross over after a number of years.
I remember FReepers telling me that FoxNews sold out to the Saudis, or Hillary. Does anyone still stink that?
Being African American is NOT an ethnic heritage or a skin color. It’s a set of ideological beliefs and Juan doesn’t have them.

“So it follows that the regular NPR people showing up on Fox have their days numbered.”
Good logical point. Then look for Mara Liasson to get the axe as well (another regular on Fox panels).
I suspect BOR has been reading our comments here lately. He has finally come out and talked about something controversial for the first time in years. Go, BOR! I may actually start watching you again.
I don’t care much for Juan’s politics, but you knew he was speaking his mind, not kowtowing to the DNC talking points of the day. Pity he was fired, on of the few actual voices of reason wantering in the NPR desert.
“OReilly will have Juan on tomorrow night, Ill bet.”
Hmm, dunno about that. Juan was on Hannity’s great american panel last night and nary a thing was mentioned. Something tells me the only one on FNC who will have the guts to mention this situation is Glenn Beck. I get frustrated that Bill O and Hannity simply ignore many newsworthy items or only (finally) talk about them after Glenn’s given extensive time/coverage and a story’s grown too big to ignore.

Credibility as a news analyst for NPR?
Now that right there is good for a belly laugh.
If only Juan had said Catholics praying the rosary at the check-in gate gave him the heebie jeebies, he’d be appearing today on “the View”
It sounds like Mr. Williams is on his way to being cured...
NPR why u got to b hatin’ on the black man?
NPR does not like their senior reporters to stray from the progressive plantation.
Unlike many Leftists, Juan at least tries to offer reasoned arguments, and doesn't walk off and sulk when he's given disagreement. He can sit on a panel where he's outnumbered by conservatives and hold his position.
This reflects badly upon NPR. Even their leftist listeners might be disturbed over the treatment of a long-time analyst over speaking his mind.
That was Juan's warning to not stray from the Party line.

Oh wait. Come to think of it, Totenberg still to this day works for NPR. She was never fired for her hateful comment. But Juan Williams on the other hand . . .
