(Excerpt) Read more at guardian.co.uk ...
Rats! Missed him. Maybe he’ll give an interview when I am
paying more attention. I was watching the rescue on Fox! LOL!
It was a great interview. Cooper really highlighted his contribution and thanked him for his efforts both in Chile and Afghanistan.
Did you get to see the first miner out without a hitch?
I don’t tear up easily, but when I saw that little boy crying when he first saw his Father I almost lost it.
Thank You God for some good news in an age of bad.
Says they had 3 drill plans..Jeff was #2...he started last, and got thru first.
He drills standing up so he can feel thru his feet what he is doing at all times, last few meters were the worst, heard a loud noise and his heart stopped in fear, and he still does not know what that noise was.
Yes, with tears in my eyes!
The next one is fixing to come up in a few min.
They keep talking ablut checking the door!
Thanks for the thread. This old former coalmine owner’s heart has been with these brave, hard-working men. God bless them, the rescuers and all the families.
Fox News is reading this thread, I think. They just interviewed a rescued miner from Quecreek. Something I suggested way up thread.
Good night to all.
CNN was providing translation on line — President talking about the virtues of faith and hope and how they triumphed with this rescue. He is so happy and so proud for the accomplishment of the rescue and for his country being able to accomplish this. He stayed in the background during the last few hours but was obviously happy and prayed before the first miner came to the surface.
It was a beautiful moment. The heart felt hug that the president gave him really touched me as well.
It’s kind of reminiscent of Apollo 13.
Even though that happened at a time of cold war, and war in SE Asia, the entire world united in prayer when it was revealed how serious it was.
I’m figuring at least an hour per person for the rescue. That means the last one will come up the middle of tomorrow night. Thinking I’ll get some sleep tonight so I can stay up and see the end of this thrilling adventure.
These guys coming up won’t be smelling too good. Get them out of there immediately to clean them up.
Please, OH PLEASE, can I use that as my new tagline???
(from comments on another board)
Let me second the recommendation for a visit to Chile. I was there last year for a while, even spent a week in Copiapo.
If I weren’t an American, I’d be a Chileno in a heartbeat. Being in Chile is like being in America in the 1950s. The country and most its citizens are serious about making a better society, and they’re willing to work hard and sacrifice to get there.
Plus, it’s a magnificently beautiful place.
“These guys coming up wont be smelling too good. Get them out of there immediately to clean them up.”
Actually, they had hot showers down there.
Talking about havinga new door ready when they get topside.
Second one on his way up! This will be going on for quite some time.
