WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Friday forcefully endorsed building a mosque near ground zero, saying the country's founding principles demanded no less. "As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country," Obama said, weighing in for the first time on a controversy that has riven New York and the nation. "That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances," he said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

The economy isn't the only thing bringing Obama's approval rating down. Far from the only thing.
Obama is in the 30% column on every major issue where the country is split 70/30. He is absolutely the most tone-deaf man to ever hold the office of president. At every opportunity, and on every single issue of import, he comes down on the anti-American side. Not a day goes by that he doesn't do or say something that indicates his anti-Americanism, and his truly radical intentions for this country.
Not even the MSM can hide or spin it all. In fact, they're beginning to open the tap of negative information about Obama to the sheeples. Individual Democrat politicians are beginning to buck Obama in public, and nearly every one that is up for re-election has put distance between themselves and the Precedent.
There is little in the way of positive developments that the Obama administration can claim credit for. They're playing defense, due to the effects of all their lousy and destructive acts in office. There's nothing to celebrate. No victories. No real accomplishments. Nothing but spin.
All of this negativity adds up, and there is a political price to be paid for it. Right now, Obama is paying that price in plummeting poll numbers and vanishing support. Soon enough, he will begin paying real political capital for his errors, and it won't be pretty. Losing Congress this November will be his down payment on a monstrous bill he owes to the American people.
Democrats are a vicious and fickle lot. Once one of their own becomes publicly toxic, they quickly jump to the winning side and begin joining in the stoning.
Mark my words....it won't be us that brings Obama down - it will be his own.
Obama's fallen further, and faster, than any president in polling history, in only 20 months. And he's not even to the halfway point of his term. If he even survives the second half, he will get to the finish line as a worn out, thoroughly discredited and pathetic figure. Little more than an embarrassing derelict that NO ONE but the most die-hard leftists and racists will support.
That is Obama's future. He will never run for president again.
When I heard that he declared this with his typical "Let me be clear" line I was stumped as well.
This will go over well with the hardcore "progressives". That's about it though. Gotta say, politically, just plain stupid on the part of the 0bama regime.
This will completely piss off any remaining independents who still haven't completely seen the light. I suspect that a lot of Middle American DemocRats will also lose faith in 0bama now that his true allegiances have been exposed.
Next week when this thing heats up around every water cooler, his numbers will take a colossal dive just as they did with the "stupidly" comment.
Obama is a muslim. The slip was that he let it be known prematurely.
Stephenopolis felt obligated to correct him because he adores him. But his intuitive response should have been, so you admit you are a muslim? Are you coming out of the closet Mr. President?
Can someone explain why anyone doesn’t get it that a man named “Obama” wouldn’t perpetrate the Islamic agenda on America in anyway possible. We can’t get him out of the white house fast enough.
That is smucky schumer.
I hope you’re right. Obama is still at 45% avg. He was at 47 in both the WSJ and a Pew Poll.
I remember back in 94 when people were celebrating Clinton’s demise. He was finished. A laughingstock.
How can you say he’s fallen faster than any other President when Obama is above where Reagan was at a similar point in his 1st term? Many in the fall of 82 thought Reagan was not long for the job.
And that’s with all the recent bad economic news. Even a month or two of adding even 100,000-200,000 jobs and he’ll back above 50. He’s almost as low as he can get among whites and he’s at 90% among blacks even though black unemployment is at 16% and the highest its been since the 30s.
Again, W was in the 30s from 2006 on. Carter was in the 30s most of 1980, as was Bush 41 in 1992. That’s real unpopularity. Being at 47 in the two recent polls is not an emergency.
And he hasn’t even unleashed the Billion+ re-election war chest that he’s building up. The media hasn’t even really started to do their part yet.
As I said, I hope you’re right and maybe a huge GOP win in the fall will change things and a new CW will emerge. I’d love to be wrong. I just don’t want to get too far ahead.
Not the one posting about FreeMasons. Not sure who you are responding to!
Yes.
EXCELLENT COMMENTARY. I could not have said it better myself.
Stand for something, or fall for anything. I’d rather fight on my feet, than kneel to the enemy.
“Not the one posting about FreeMasons. Not sure who you are responding to!”
Well, that’s weird. I was responding to rummychick. I copied and pasted comments from her post, then clicked to reply to her.
Sorry for the confusion, and no, you were not the intended subject. My mouse has inexplicably committed mutiny.
Didn’t he just recently say that this was a local matter?
Did Reagan start off with a 76% approval rating, like Obama did? I don't think so. Obama fell further because he started out higher, from what I've read.
I didn't make up the "falling faster, farther" thing myself. I've seen it posted here many times, with figures to back it up. Maybe someone will post it again.
Friend, you keep crunching numbers and reading them like some sort of tea leaves. You're missing the larger point, and that is, Obama is unlike anyone who's ever held the presidency. He is NOT one of us. He has NO uniquely American narrative, and does not show any indications whatsoever that he has a cellular level connection to the soul of this country and its people.
Every single thing he does, and every statement he makes, shows clearly that he holds Americans and America in disdain. His default positions on every issue, and every subject are alien to average Americans.
No American president has ever behaved in this way, nor has any American president ever come out so frequently, and so strongly in favor of things that the majority of Americans oppose.
An incumbent president CAN NOT be re-elected with a performance record like that, and Obama shows no signs of changing his disturbing, off-putting narrative.
You've really got to get your head out of the scientific puzzle of numbers and come up for air. Look around. Listen to what people are saying. Observe carefully to get a sense of how people really feel about Obama. It's uniformly down, everywhere you look, including among rank and file Democrats.
Obama has already lost his mojo. It's gone, and he won't get it back. It was phony to begin with, so it can't be rebuilt now. No one, including his own supporters will believe him if he tries. Basically, he's been outed by his terrible performance in just the first year and a half. There's just no way to recapture what he once had. It's just gone.
Again - he's not even at the halfway point of his term. He's got nowhere to go but down from here, because there's no way for him to recover any of the support he's lost. The only way he could do that would be for him to make an honest course correction to the political center, but he's far too radical to do that. He's incapable of being anything other than what he is, which is a committed Marxist.
His party will not nominate him to a second term, because by 2012 he will have brought them nothing but near-complete political destruction.
Bygones! ;-) Probably some mutinous mouse virus going around!
