Polish president dies in air crash
A plane carrying Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, has crashed near Smolensk airport in western Russia, killing all on board, Russian officials have reported.
Polish officials confirmed on Saturday that Kaczynski was on board the flight with his wife, as well as Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of Poland's central bank, Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister and the army chief of staff.
The crash occurred about 1.5km from Smolensk airport in foggy conditions.

This was the only aircraft Poland had with the 36th Special Aviation Regiment.

SNIPPET: “Television pictures showed the burning fuselage and fragments of the plane scattered in a forest. The crash occurred about 2 km (1.3 miles) from Smolensk airport.
“The plane caught fire after the crash. Teams began attempting to pull out passengers from the badly damaged airplane,” said a Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman in Warsaw.””
So is Gazprom when you consider Poland was asking the EU to look at shale gas development. And likewise Poland was developing shale in country to get off of Gazprom’s gas.
Putin’s timing on making the invitation to the Polish president was dead on.
What a tremendous loss for Poland.
And we should also keep in mind, that mother of the President - Mrs Jadwiga Kaczynska - is in hospital, being seriuosly ill for several weeks.
The President spent a lot of time with her recently.
And now she’ll find out something like this ...
According to RT via CNN International, the pilots were told by Smolensk ATC to land in Minsk, but the pilots decided against it.
Exactly 70 years later and almost in the same place they joined the lines of Polish officers killed in Katyn ....
Apparently it was a Polish owned TU-154 Tupelov and was the Presidential aircraft. Those old TU’s are deathtraps, I was shocked when I learned that Poland was still using one. The EU is handing out money for all kinds of nonsense projects and they let top political leaders use those old crates. Nobody should ever step foot into one of them, they should all be grounded and trashed.
I think it’s natural to think of subterfuge when a nation’s leader is on board a crash like this, but it seems like poor judgment concerning the weather conditions to me.
We’ll see how it turns out. I could obviously be wrong.
So many important people on that plane, all gone. Something doesn’t feel right here.....
